Moveanime template images

I wrote on the Moveanime talk page about increasing the image count from 4 to 5 several months ago since Kenji-girl had a rule about showing the images per series (currently five) but there wasn't any response about it. I wasn't sure if it was being discussed or it was forgotten about since it is a template used in many pages. PattyMan 17:16, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

I'll have a talk with Kenji-girl about it, see what her ideas on it are. The biggest issue I see with trying to have an image from every series is that it will eventually result in far too many pictures in the template to fit. We'll look into what should be the best option. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 00:47, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
We should be able to update the template to add up to two more images, at absolute maximum. I'll get working on an update in my userspace when I am finished with the spritebox upgrades. If we ever get beyond the need for six images, we'll have to consider other options. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 07:33, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Concerning Glitchdex work

As SnorlaxMonster hasn't replied to my messages in a year, and I need an answer before I do anything, I figured I'd come and ask you, the new EiC. I left two messages on SnorlaxMonster's talk page. Could you possibly answer my questions? Thanks. --×Rsrdaman× 07:17, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

The new availability templates should make your first question mostly obsolete. The new templates aren't all bunched together like the old ones, and should allow the freedom to only list the generations (and games) needed for glitches. As for the Missingno. sprites question, I'll have to take some time and look into the issue & get back to you on that one. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 07:33, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for, as a third user, entering this conversation, and late, but the fact is that, having only noticed this conversation right now, I feel an urge to tell you I'm on exactly the same situation, with other glitch-related matters. Despite having written several "reminder" sections, SnorlaxMonster always seemed to have dodged them in a certain way. Since I believe your EiC experience and staff rights are probably enough to solve most of the problems in question, could you please take a look at them? Thanks for the attention. オリナル TheOriginalOne 22:25, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
I've had a talk with SnorlaxMonster, and he's been responding to much of his talk page backlog. Check back there for responses. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 21:38, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Username Change

First off I am sorry to bother you with this request and I hope it is not to hard. I would like to change my username to Cryptic Midnight. The reason why I want this username change is because I had a 11 year-old mentality when I first created my account. I was dumb and put my first initial and last name in my username. I now realize at the age of 16 that this was very dumb and I hope you can fix it. Sincerely, Dbeckelheimer6 (talk) 03:27, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Renames are typically restricted to users who are regularly active, and have made more than 500 contributions. If you remain active through the rest of May, I can rename your account for you. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 03:37, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Userspace edits request

Hey Kogoro, may I have permission to edit some errors that are found on userspace pages. I found these errors through the wanted pages list. Adamws (talk) 04:38, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Permission isn't required to fix links causing unwanted entries to the wanted pages. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 06:00, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Just making sure. Adamws (talk) 22:49, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I know. I was only changing the red links. Any that I couldn't fix (ie. no clue how to fix), I left those ones alone. Adamws (talk) 23:27, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
I don't believe changing move types has anything to do with fixing the typing mistakes that caused unwanted entries on the wanted pages. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 23:29, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Sorry about that. That won't happen again. Adamws (talk) 18:11, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Just to clarify

So basically, anything located in the moves pages and moving pages are stuff that definitely require staff approval, as well as anything on a lot of pages? On another topic, I have been doing a good job with adding the appearances of moves in the manga, right? This wouldn't count that time with the Double-Edge incident which I got to admit that it was wrong of me to make those massive edits that led to the block. PattyMan 20:59, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Anything regarding moving a large segment of information from one page to another (or to a subpage) should get staff approval, to be sure that it's a necessary action and that the best action is taken. What you've been doing with manga additions to the move articles seems fine to me, but I'd suggest checking with Ataro to see if there's any suggestions he may have. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 08:30, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Forums?

Hi. I have a question. What are forums? Sometimes when I discuss something about a character or a Pokémon on their talk page, people delete what I write and always say "That goes on the forums." Can you explain to me why people are doing that to me? I don't want to cause any trouble. --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 05:30, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

The Bulbagarden Forums, they're full of discussion regarding Pokémon. Including theories, speculation, people's opinions regarding all segments of the franchise, and a whole lot more. Anything that isn't about improving an article, or discussing edits, is very likely to be forums material rather than something to be posted on talk pages. The recent one about Serena was okay for a talk page, though it heavily read like a general complaint against the character rather than a question about trivia. I apologize for the revert there, and I've responded to the question at hand. (The timestamps got confused, however, making the reply seem like it didn't happen... Silly software.) - Kogoro - Talk to me - 05:38, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
That's ok. Thank you. :) --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 06:23, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

TPP article Edit Timer

Does the 6 hour rule apply to things like fixing minor table errors, or should that be left to someone else (i.e. EB) during that "do not edit" time period? For example, this is simply missing a |- in the table, and has a stray comment tail after it. (All in all that's probably a 0 byte change but doing it would reset the timer). Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 15:48, 5/31/2014 (UTC)

Small fixes are typically best done moments after the last update, so the timer doesn't get reset too massively, or done with the next major update. If you spot a problem, leave a note on the talk page and a staff member should handle it. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 19:28, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for putting the Type Effectiveness chart up for Mega Sceptile.

I had just figured 99% of it out before I saw your edit. All I needed to left was to google the alt code for ¼ and I would have had it lol. It took me a while, and I cursed so bad in frustration, that a Grimmer would have put soap in my mouth, but at least I know what to do for the next time.

Anyways, thanks again for putting the chart up and cheers.Yamitora1 (talk) 07:19, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

DP185 picture

I don't know what went wrong, but I just changed the picture for DP185 without changing the filename, but now it's not displaying any picture at all in the template anymore. I have never had that happen. --The Great Butler (talk) 04:28, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Username rename request

Will you please change "SaturnMario" to "General Xerneas"? I like my new username better. SaturnMario, his talk and his contributions 01:53, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Couple pages for mainspace

(As a preamble, I'd like to say it was nice when the Candidates for merging/moving/mainspacing/splitting thread was in use, so people (I) at least had some idea that the staff was considering stuff at all. At the moment, I don't have the first clue what staff is or isn't up to...)

The pages:

I would appreciate if staff would consider approving these to move into the mainspace. In either case, if some modification is called for, that's fine, but these subjects definitely deserve pages in the mainspace.

Re:hotel hoppers:
Stuff like Camphrier Town#Pokémon really is not adequate: the hotels are not random, and users should not have to be searching about Kalos for the hotels these people appear in (or even searching the ones they've seen them appear in to find the hotel a specific person is in that day). There's really no good way to communicate this information except in a page more or less like the one I made. If that page is in the mainspace, this sort of thing (or this) can easily contain a link to that page.

Re:Juice Shoppe:
The Juice Shoppe juices are basically Kalos's Pokeblocks or Poffins: you combine Berries to get something to feed to your Pokemon. In this case, instead of affecting Contest stats, they affect EVs, levels, and friendship. Though the Juice Shoppe may be confined to Lumiose City, the juice mechanics are quite irrelevant to Lumiose; they deserve their own page. ...Thinking of it in the light of Pokeblocks and Poffins, I suppose the page could be named "Berry juice" and the Lumiose page could talk generally about the shop and link to that page for the mechanics (and that page would take out the stuff about the shop in general). ...The problem is, "Berry Juice" conflicts with the Berry Juice drink... Maybe "Berry Juice (Kalos)" or something? Well, under whatever name, the mechanics should be on a separate page rather than unnecessarily cluttering up the Lumiose City article. (A suggestion was previously made to include some pictures, but I don't know how I'm expected to get any, and the page should not languish indefinitely in the userspace just because there is no convenient means for the average user to get good pictures...) Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:59, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

We intend to work through nominees for moving, merging, mainspacing, etc. gradually through staff meetings. So, we'll try to look into your pages during our next meeting. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 03:40, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Kalos secondary type "triangle"

I would like staff to weigh in on whether the Kalos secondary types (Dark/Psychic/Fighting) form a "triangle" analogous to the primary types (Water/Fire/Grass). (This stems mostly from here and here.) I don't know where I should ask this so I bring the request directly to you.

The short of it is, Dark/Psychic/Fighting come so close to the exact same relationship as Water/Fire/Grass that I cannot see it as anything but intentional. I.e., that the designers intended it as a parallel to the "triangle" of the primary types. In five whole generations, there has basically been only one single data point for the starters' "type triangle". However, a definition based only on one example is inherently and massively flawed. Considering Water/Fire/Grass and Dark/Psychic/Fighting together, though, it's easy to see a triangular pattern/definition that fits both: "Type X has an offensive and defensive advantage against Type Y".

It is apparent to me that the designers made this choice deliberately. Our definition of a "triangle" (if "we" have one) is effectively artificial in the first place; I see no good reason to not accept a definition that actually fits the pattern that the designers were by all appearances aiming for with the Kalos starters' final forms. Tiddlywinks (talk) 04:28, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

It's not our place to assume what Game Freak's intentions were. If it's something where the fandom will never be in reasonable agreement over, it may be better to simply leave it to people's imaginations & not try to class it as anything. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 03:40, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Question

It's been over a year, can I be removed from the abuse and forcepreview groups? TheShinyRoggenrola (talk) 13:15, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Restrictions have been removed. Do be responsible with the privileges. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 03:40, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Talk Page

What is a talk page best pokemon master

Any page that contains a prefix with the word "talk" in it, such as this very page, is a talk page. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 03:40, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Another question

Can you delete the Pokémon lacking disambiguation notices category? Den Zen says it's no longer needed. TheShinyRoggenrola (talk) 22:04, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Categories should not be deleted until they have been cleared out. Since the category still contains a significant number of articles, it will not be deleted at this time. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 00:40, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
So should I (or perhaps User:BulbaBot) start to remove the articles from the category? TheShinyRoggenrola (talk) 12:10, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
The category isn't causing any harm by existing, and isn't a priority to remove. The staff will handle the category when we have the time to worry about it. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 18:29, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Adding pages

I have looked all around on how to make pages - specifically my user page - but they say you have to make edits to the main space. I have made several edits to the main space and it still won't let me make pages. Can you help me? --Derpyderpy (talk) 14:30, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

In order to create pages, users must make enough edits and their account must exist for enough time. Neither of these requirements will ever be given out by the staff, as to prevent people from abusing the system in order to make a user page. Just keep on making useful edits to the mainspace, and the privilege will eventually be granted by the system. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 18:29, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks! --Derpyderpy (talk) 12:40, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

A third question

Why don't I have permission to upload images to Bulbagarden Archives? TheShinyRoggenrola (talk) 16:57, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Just like creating pages on Bulbapedia, it's required for an account to become autoconfirmed on the Archives before the ability to upload is activated. You can help out by cleaning up image summaries/categories until such happens, or you can make upload requests to the Archives staff. As an additional note, Archives-related comments/questions/concerns should be posted on the Archives, not Bulbapedia. Thanks. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 02:50, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Curious Query

Force Fire sent me your way with this question.

I think I've proven by now, even with my sporadic editing, that I'm not a troublesome editor. Meanwhile, I predict that the site will go on lockdown on or just before November 21. Since I edit sporadically, and I like doing my own edits (since I am a grammar Nazi and somesuch), I'd like to know how I can avoid being slammed by a lockdown. I've also done some updating on Gen. VI moves after the lockdown was lifted from X/Y, but could have done a lot more had I not been stopped for a while (I could have confirmed a lot of learned moves throughout my play). Further, I sometimes edit little bits or edit for grammar on episode articles, which have nothing to do with the games and are still hit by a lockdown. Finally, I've tried requesting edits before, but I never got any response from anyone; basically, staff were too busy with new games to answer anything else.

So my question is this: how can I avoid being barred from editing pages during any brief lockdown in the event I have an insightful edit to make? I can even help with requested edits during any such lockdown if I'm not busy with something else at the time. CycloneGU (talk) 01:42, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

There is no guaranteed way to get on the list of users that are given the ability to edit while editing is locked. Users that are given the ability are selected by the staff, and are typically editors who are regularly active, have shown to be skilled & dedicated contributors, and those who will help in sections that need regular updates during the edit lock. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 02:50, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Darn. I hate being locked out by such a thing. I still can't understand why they need to lock the entire site for an extended period of time; I think it would make more sense to have people monitor the Recent Changes page and quickly reverse anything that's wrong. Wikipedia marks changes that have not been confirmed yet as well, making it easy to know what to look at. The page might have a different name, however. CycloneGU (talk) 23:09, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
It's a necessary evil in order to get work done in timely and efficient manner. In the past, we weren't able to lock editing and the mass of false information, rumors, and blatant vandalism was so great that the staff had to near-exclusively focus on reverting these issues. Because of this, information on the new games took well over twice as long to get up as it takes now with the ability to temporarily lock editing. The fans want information as soon as possible, and our aim is to have accurate information up to best meet with these demands. I am sorry you're disappointed regarding the edit locks, but they're for the best. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 01:25, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, that's why I'm trying to see if I can get past that before it hits. When it does hit, I never hear from anyone, even if I'm trying to make an edit that never gets made. That turns out as a bad experience. Ya know what I mean? =)
That said, there is less information to do this time, so I can't see why the entire site would need locking this time. There might be a few changes to movesets (hey, FR/LG did it, I think HG/SS did it), but those should be quick to verify if someone posts one. I could even test them if I have the Pokémon. LOL Unless that's where Move Tutors get added, and then updating pages with Secret Power (for instance) would be a mess; that I can understand. CycloneGU (talk) 04:02, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

New Template:Sign

There are two problems with the Sign template.

1) It's implemented rather horribly, asking you to use the template repeatedly for rather trivial reasons. If we would just let the user format the lines for the sign manually, the whole thing can easily be handled in one call. ...Fixing the current template to work like this either means temporarily breaking all current uses of it or creating a new template.

2) The BW sign that someone created is hugely complicated by its constant use of Template:!. ...To solve this, it'd be nice to just create a separate template for this sign where it can build a table properly/legibly.

So: can I split the Sign template into templates for each Gen like Sign/1, Sign/2 (redirect to 1 for now maybe), and so on? That way I can write the new templates correctly without breaking everything, and BW can build its table cleanly (and they'll just generally be less crowded). Then I can go and update all the current usages of Sign to these new templates. (...All the mainspace uses at least shouldn't be too bad.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:09, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Bump...
This seems to me like it should be a pretty simple decision, turning a complicated template into a simple one(s). Tiddlywinks (talk) 02:02, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
It's not a real top-priority template to change, but it's not a bad idea to clean it up and make it more manageable. You're welcome to build up split versions in your userspace & make sure they're working correctly. Let me know when you've got them working, then we'll look into getting them live. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 06:39, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
I have created the templates: User:Tiddlywinks/Sign/1, User:Tiddlywinks/Sign/3, User:Tiddlywinks/Sign/4, and User:Tiddlywinks/Sign/5. I have also created some usage examples based off of current uses of Template:Sign around the wiki. They should all look exactly the same (or nearly so) as the current template produces. I haven't done exhaustive testing, but I believe these templates all work fine, so I now present them for your inspection. Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:55, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Rayquaza ex δ Card Picture

The page Rayquaza ex δ (EX Dragon Frontiers 97) has a message at the top stating that the picture is not of good quality. Therefore, here is a better scan: [1]. Moaz786 (talk) 00:07, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

While we appreciate the attention and time you spent getting the image and changing the file extension, card images of poor quality should be replaced with actual card scans, and not from the non holofoil images from the official site. It eliminates extra temporary files that, in the end, will need to be replaced with higher quality images anyway. MaverickNate 01:58, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Bulbapedia API or JSON Bulbapedia Library

Does there happen to be an API or a Library in JSON format available for this site and its Pokémon data? I would like to create a Pokémon RP bot that would make use of commands to keep track of XP, Evolution, Learned Moves, TMs, Health, and some battle stats. If I could somehow acquire a link or a download page for a library that would be a great starting point. SomePerson (talk) 01:16, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

In order to be able to upload, you will need to help out on the Archives by doing smaller tasks, such as adding missing categories, fixing up image summaries, and the like. If you believe a file needs to be changed, you're also welcome to post an upload request on the file's talk page, or to send one to a member of the Archives staff. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 21:38, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Adding to trivia

Hi, Kogoro. I want to add to the trivia on Professor Sycamore: to date, he has given out the most starter Pokémon to date, with a grand total of 8. Blazingfist recommended me going here. Does it seem like it's notable or suitable enough? WATERWARRIOR67 (talk) 12:43, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Since it's an anime fact, it would need to be noted that it's specific to the anime. Otherwise, it's an interesting enough little factoid to include. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 23:30, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

I am Looking for Work

Hey, Kogoro. As I read through information I saw that you are the Editorial Chief for this wiki. The information I am looking to get from you is what kind of work could you and do you want me to do (if any). I am a competitive Pokémon player and I also collect Pokémon TCG. I do not watch the anime as much and thus I am not as knowledgeable in that area. Also, what would you recommend to read in order to learn more about how to use templates and such? Thanks, SirFinkleBottom (talk) 17:16, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

I would suggest checking out Project Games and Project TCG, as well as the pages in the Bulbapedia guides and Bulbapedia policies categories. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! - Kogoro - Talk to me - 06:01, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Projects

What on earth is going on with all of the projects? And why are we getting rid of project leaders? --リックEO (My message board) 05:11, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Projects are currently undergoing a massive upgrade that's been in the work for a very long time. These changes are being done in order to better focus the projects, and provide an easier environment for users to find things to help out with.
The Project Leader position has been retired for a number of reasons, the biggest being that the position was becoming stagnant. Most Project Leaders were members of staff, and projects needing new Leaders were proving to be extremely difficult to fill. It was felt that it would be better to offer a list of staff members to contact, and generally leave the decision making to the relevant staff section head. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 06:01, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Clothing templates approval?

I have created templates for use in constructing clothing tables, and I would like for staff to approve them for use in the mainspace. I have examples of the templates in use and links to each of the templates here: User:Tiddlywinks/Clothing/examples.

I am currently working to verify clothing schedules, and I expect to be finished with that by the end of this weekend, so if they could possibly approved a little sooner rather than later (like by sometime next week), that would make it a lot easier for me to import my verified data into Bulbapedia. Thanks. Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:17, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately, while the templates look nice and appear to function well, the row templates contain far too many parser (switch/if) statements to be approved. We're trying to reduce the number of such statements we use, as excessive use of them can cause pages to severely lag to the point of not loading. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 04:50, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
I thought about solutions and came up with a pretty simple way to achieve the same result without the "if"s on the day-of-the-week cells. So the only parser function of any kind that should be left in the templates is in the price cell (and it's only actually an "if" in the slot template). So how about now? Tiddlywinks (talk) 05:51, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
An impressively sneaky way to bypass a parser statement for something like that, clever. The templates look good, and should be alright to move to the template space. I would also suggest making a template for the header, at least for use on city/town articles. There's quite a few boutique locations already, and likely to be more with ORAS coming along. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 04:59, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
I'd like to make sure you're okay with User:Tiddlywinks/Clothing/header, then. It's got one "if" statement. I avoided this before because I personally prefer to avoid building a table with Template:!, but if I'm going to create any header template, I'd rather that users be able to make both headers than guess at a second that doesn't exist. (I could certainly make two, but my first preference is for one. I also made User:Tiddlywinks/Clothing/footer to round things out, but it's entirely straightforward. And both have been employed on the example page.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 06:04, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
They look great, and good call on making a footer as well. You have the green light to move them all to the template namespace and begin applying them. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 04:20, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Articles In Need Of Transformation

Hey, Korogo. I have something that I have been working on for a while. I just moved it from my main page into my sandbox. I think it could be useful. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Adamws (talk) 05:18, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

The staff is currently working diligently to get the split, merge, move, and mainspace candidates sorted and dealt with. Thank you for your interest in these matters, but I don't believe we will need what you have in your sandbox. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 07:28, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Staff privileges

What happens if a staff member on the Bulbapedia side hasn't been around for over a year? I know that the privileges get revoked on the Archives side. I noticed that a user hasn't been around for almost two years even though he is listed as staff. PattyMan 20:12, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

We'll be discussing staff changes after the ORAS edit lock is concluded. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 19:54, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Template:Dex/Entry4?

Could a four-game variant of the new Pokédex template be added? This would be used for Pokémon that have the same dex entry for all four Gen V games, particularly Hoenn and Sinnoh Pokémon. See: Treecko, Turtwig. - Chosen of Mana 16:10, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

I considered a four game variant when I was creating the templates, but it didn't look good, and it didn't appear to be advantageous to create a special variant for exclusive use by a single generation. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 19:54, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

ORAS dumped data

I know that the wiki was locked because of the ORAS data dumps and worrying about using leaked data before the games were out, but now that they are, is it okay to use that data now?

In particular, I'm wondering if it would be okay to use any information or images found here or here? (I have no idea about questions of permission.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:46, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

We don't condone using content from other fansites, we prefer to gather that information via our own tech crew or content that's been freely released for public use. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 08:23, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Is the primary issue with the above links that it hasn't been gathered by Bulbapedia's own "tech crew", or that it hasn't been "released to the public" (and when you say "release", might you mean that it should be Nintendo's doing)? If it's the latter, I can certainly try to confirm whether those things are meant for the "public" or are else amenable to use on Bulbapedia.
In the meantime, SnorlaxMonster was willing to use dumped encounter data on Hoenn Route 118. Should that information be reverted to "??%", or is SnorlaxMonster using an approved reference that I could also reference? Tiddlywinks (talk) 11:02, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
You'll have to ask SnorlaxMonster regarding the source material, but we can confirm the data that has been added is correct. Apologies for the late response. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 01:51, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
I have obtained explicit permission to use the data in SciresM's Pastebin (notably containing ORAS encounter data). I hope that is enough to satisfy your concerns above. If not...well, encounter data's been seeping in on various pages and I've seen no pushback from staff; and you also said above that you "verified" SnorlaxMonster's added encounter data. So at worst, I hope you can also verify the encounter data that I intend to add and we can all be (relatively) happy.
SciresM also told me it would be okay to use what's in the Project Pokemon ORAS research directory on Bulbapedia. May I then upload things like minisprites for Megas from there to the Archives? Tiddlywinks (talk) 02:42, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Moveentry/TM3 and Others

I went to check on Dive earlier and tried testing for a split column in Gen. VI (like how HGSS, etc. splits Generation IV and E/FR/LG splits Generation III) and don't seem to see an available trigger for it yet. Not sure who specifically adds it, but can you please see that it's added? I've noted HM07 for now. CycloneGU (talk) 22:49, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Welcome back! Any chance you can do this sometime? I've already checked all Kalos species (up to Diancie, anyway, since we don't have Hoopa or Volcanion yet) so the split column will provide clarity that they can't learn Dive until OR/AS. CycloneGU (talk) 05:47, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
We're planning on moving away from the colored split-cell format of the current template, as the extreme number of parser functions needed for those cells are causing many move articles to have severe load lag. It's even caused some move articles to stop loading and required content splitting in order to get the articles functioning again. You can view a partial build of the upcoming conversion here. Ways to better denote method exclusivity will be handled in the new templates. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 08:30, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
Good to know. I'll go ahead and just put it for the entire column in the morning, then, with a tooltip that it only applies to OR/AS in the header. That should work. CycloneGU (talk) 08:44, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Create a page

Hey Korogo, I clicked on a red link and I got this message that I don't have permission to create a page. What should I do and how do I get the permission to create the page. Thanks in advance. Rwithik (talk) 06:57, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

In order to create new articles, or edit the User: namespace, your account must become autoconfirmed by the system. Becoming autoconfirmed is based on how many edits you have made, and how long your account has existed. The specific requirements, however, are not something we reveal to the public. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 07:06, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
Okay now I got the permission. Any thanks for your time

Permission to upload Nintendo 3DS screenshots

Hello Kogoro. I have a Nintendo 3DS with a capture board installed. I'd like your permission for uploading screenshots from it to the Archives, please. Here is a screenshot with my username (as a box name) and "Bulbapedia" (as a Pokémon nickname) in it. Thanks! Chickasaurus (talk) 21:35, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Screenshot looks good, you're clear to upload Generation VI screenshots. Next time, however, please keep Archives topics on the Archives. Thanks! - Kogoro - Talk to me - 04:13, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
OK, thanks! Will do. Chickasaurus (talk) 19:21, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Shuffle Pokémon List

Would it be a good idea to add sorting columns to that? People using the page might use it for planning purposes, and it might make it easier for such purposes to allow people to sort by Type or Skill, or someone might be interested in seeing which Pokémon are NOT there by sorting by NDex; of course, the option to sort again by Dex# (perhaps that header might be better as something else, too, since it's not referred to as a Pokédex, either) would be needed as well. CycloneGU (talk) 03:46, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

This isn't something we generally do with such "Pokédex" listings, and I'm not really sure how helpful it would be beyond allowing people to see what Pokémon aren't yet part of the game. I'll have a chat with some other staff members who play Pokémon Shuffle and see what they think of the idea. I'll let you know what conclusions we've come to. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 19:43, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
No problem, was just wondering what you thought. I recognize that other lists don't do that already, but with the ability in the table and with types already being a good sort basis, it could be useful. Either way is fine with me.
I do think we should put Pokémon Shuffle as an option in the SidegameAvail template or a related template, however. It does count as a side game. The key things for that - which would then appear on each Pokémon's page - would be the single type and the ability. No entry for the flag means no entry appears for the game, thus accommodating everything not in the game. If done, I can start filling in some info once it's ready and I know how it works. CycloneGU (talk) 23:52, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
Just realized, so adding on, that base power might be useful as an item in the template as well. However it works best. CycloneGU (talk) 23:53, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Editor

Hello Kogoro,

I wonder, is it is possible for this wiki to have the Visual Editor tool as a feature? Non-english wikipedia and wikia have it and it is marvelous! That would make editing a lot faster when one wants to edit just plain text and no template or format.--DJWolfy 11:49, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

We've had a number of staff members look into the Visual Editor that is used on several other wikis, and it's been consistently found to easily result in accidental formatting errors, along with having a number of other problems. Additionally, we strive for users to come into contact with and learn Bulbapedia style as soon as possible, including how and where to use link templates and basic wikicode. Since the best learning tool is to see how thinks work and try things out, the Visual Editor heavily hinders that learning opportunity and really isn't something that we're all that interested in doing. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 19:43, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
I see. Since it is also Mobile March, will it bring with it a Bulbapedia App?--DJWolfy 17:09, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
No. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 01:13, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Talk pages

Hello, I was told recently by a site moderator not too long ago that it is against site policy to edit someone else's entry on a talk page, even for something as small as correcting the spelling of one word, which is what I did. These rules should apply to site moderators as well because I recently witnessed on such moderator doing exactly that, erasing an entry made by someone else. The entry in question did not violate site policy as it was only asking why the person can't make changes to an article's page (Volcanion). The site moderator I am referring to is Pokemaster97 Site policy, I say again, should also apply to site moderators as well as everyone else. It's wrong to enforce rules only to turn around and break those rules upon enforcing them. DarienLeonhart (talk) 01:00, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

It is against policy for the general public to remove or modify talk page comments, other than blatant spam messages on their own user talk page. Staff members are allowed to remove comments if they deem that the comments are not appropriate for the talk page they are posted to, if the comments violate policy, as well as several other circumstances as part of their staff duties. Pokemaster97 was duing his duty, and was well within his right to remove a comment that wasn't specifically necessary as the edit page outright states why new users cannot edit the Volcanion article. Additionally, Bulbapedia does not have "moderators," Bulbapedia has three Administrator levels, Bureaucrats, and the Editorial Board. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 01:56, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
In short, they moderate the site, that makes them moderators. So what if I didn't use the official term. So the guy was being lazy by not reading why Volcanion was blocked from editing, it's not a bad thing to ask and asking isn't a violation of the policy. So I disagree, he was not in his right to remove said comment. It was and still is a legitimate question that does not violate any policy. Even if the question may have been unnecessary, Pokemaster97 never explained why he was deleting the message. If it was my comment/question, I would want to know why. But I would still dispute it because it's not an invalid question. Not everyone who makes an edit is going to read every word on every page. DarienLeonhart (talk) 02:02, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
I just want to note I unwittingly found myself caught up in this when DarienLeonhart restored the comment, I got the edit alert (being subscribed to the page) and innocently answered the question to find the entire section blanked again shortly thereafter. Pokemaster and I have since resolved that (I mistook the edit summary as being directed at me, hence why it was oversighted later) and we've agreed there's no harm in the question and answer being there for future in case other people might later ask (noting someone else is sure to otherwise, and this can now be referred to).
Regarding DarienLeonhart's concerns, I've also provided an answer at Pokemaster97's talk page speculating as to possible reasons why certain actions may be taken in the first place (I know nothing about the specific situation other than what Pokemaster told me directly and therefore kept my comments general). I did discuss this with Pokemaster off-site before posting the comment from 1:44 AM UTC. I'm hopeful that the information I posted there might prove useful for DarienLeonhart; I wanted to assist here as I'd rather see this settled amicably (as my concern was) rather than resulting in a situation with a negative result. Messed up template on mobile device

Mobile March is over, but I saw my first error. The infobox for anime seasons is messed up- the text stretches beyond the borders of the table. Here's a screenshot. - unsigned comment from Neal Cruco (talkcontribs)

That's the old infobox, which is currently being replaced, and it's being viewed in normal view rather than mobile view. That season has just been upgraded, so please let me know how it looks via this link: [2] - Kogoro - Talk to me - 04:18, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Data structure articles

Generation III has a relatively large number of data structure pages, but the other generations don't. I've been looking at the pokered disassembly and other sites (along with the R/B ROM), and I'm becoming confident I can add much information here. What I want to know (for "safety") is: can I have permission to "go wild" (that is, use my own judgement) in creating mainspace pages for "new" structures? (I'm assuming that creating a succession of mainspace pages is one of those things staff would rather we ask first about. It can be hard to tell sometimes.)

If staff thinks I make a misjudgement, a page can always be deleted or moved to my userspace; and if I am deemed to make numerous misjudgements, I would certainly be open to direction. The one thing I don't want is to have to create everything in my userspace from the get-go and get staff approval for each/all, because my experience so far (with my own user pages and with other staff/EB decisions around the site) has taught me that that process is most often anything but expeditious. Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:05, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

If you could create the first article in your userspace, we can give it a quick look over and let you know if there's any problems before you begin "going wild". You are correct when you assume that a large scale article creation project needs staff approval before happening.
You may not be aware, but we have a backlog of tasks that spans at least six years of move/merge/split/mainspace candidates and other projects. The staff have been working extremely hard at trying to eliminate that massive backlog so that new projects and candidates won't have as long of a wait period before being discussed and approved. Your rude attitude is extremely unwelcome. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 05:19, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
I was quite explicitly trying to be polite. I think I achieved it pretty well. I would hazard that it is actually our clashing in the past that leads you to read me as rude now. (That was in fact why I very mindfully strove for politeness here.) I beg you, please try reading again, considering me the levelest supplicant, and not some wolf in sheep's clothing.
I meant no accusation; only statement of fact. (In other words, criticism; but not the sort with any of the mean connotations.) Fact: things are currently not ideal. If you are working on it: great! But so long as things are still not ideal, I would ask you to consider that that fact is foremost for the average user (such as I). (And for all you may proclaim that staff are working hard, I'm sorry...but such hearsay is fundamentally a weak substitute for evidence one may weigh for oneself. You patently have strong feeling here; understand that it is impossible for me to truly comprehend that just from your written word.)
At any rate, I will figure out a test page...at some point in the relatively near future, I hope. (FWIW, I rather don't expect to bombard the site with new pages, but I do have tentative designs on plodding progress. We'll see, I suppose.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 06:10, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
I did us all a bit of a favor and went straight for left field =P . Map headers are currently hardly so much as mentioned on this wiki, but I'm in favor of the page 1) because it defines a very major part of the games (that is, everywhere you visit) and 2) because it rather neatly ties together other important structures that do or should have pages (Pokemon indices, Trainer teams, item indices). If that shall be approved, I think I'll be able to happily add the sorts of pages I want to add. (It may be worth noting at this point that I meant "exercise my judgement" very seriously. I think I know what makes a more or less good page, and I have every intention of seeking clarification if I don't feel certain about something I'm considering.)
I'd also like to ask about a couple of things I've been thinking may belong in the Appendix space. I want to know whether I can just add pages there or if I should make a userpage(s) and seek approval first? I want to make a page to go into some detail on pointers, and since that's really not about Pokemon, I figure the Appendix might be the place it should/could go. I also want to make a page going into detail about text scripts, and while that is very specific to the Gen I games, it's also pretty esoteric, and I thought maybe it should/could go in the Appendix too. Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:47, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
P.S.: I didn't quite realize this page existed when I added the last section currently on my map headers page. Perhaps that section should just be removed, and maybe I'll just see if I want to edit that other page a bit instead. Tiddlywinks (talk) 04:00, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
We will review what you have provided at our next Editorial Board meeting, and should have a verdict for you on the weekend. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 02:21, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
After an Editorial Board discussion, we believe that your efforts are well founded & intentioned. You are free to do as you need regarding data structure articles. Keep in mind, however, that the staff will be keeping an eye on your progress & you are to follow any direction given by the staff regarding the project. Keep up the good work, - Kogoro - Talk to me - 06:52, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Split request

Hey Kogoro, I was wondering if you could do a split and move for me. The Stadium mode pages in the Pokémon Stadium walkthrough have (or will) get to be too big. Can you split section 3 into section 3 with just the Pika Cup and Petit Cup information and section 4 with the Poké Cup and Prime Cup information. The same for section 7; splitting it over section 7 and section 8. Thanks. - unsigned comment from Adamws (talkcontribs)

You're entirely welcome to do both of those splits yourself, as they're required for technical reasons. All you have to do is simply copy the content to the new title, and remove the content from the old. I must ask one question, however, why is there no section 6 between sections 5 and 7? - Kogoro - Talk to me - 05:23, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Ok thanks. Yeah, when I created those pages over a year ago, I didn't expect them to get that big. As for section 6, it will be Round 2 of the Gym Leader Castle, which just hasn't been created yet. Adamws (talk) 23:31, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Oops

Just saw that you edited the one back to "Unreleased". I've taken note of that, will use that instead. I also saw this but it's also likely the Reddit post. CycloneGU (talk) 19:40, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Team Templates

Hi Kogoro! May I imitate your style of showing your team? I was so amazed. Phiraptor28 (talk) 01:15, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

You can use either of my two templates: User:Kogoro/Template/Pokébox or User:Kogoro/Template/Pokébox2. The parameters are the same for both, but the second works best for Generation VI. If you want to use them as a base for your own template, I only ask that you give due credit to me & link back to the source template(s) - Kogoro - Talk to me - 02:21, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Template:YouTubeEmbed

Mobile March is over so I can't post it there. This template is broken in mobile view. Considering that people are unlikely to specify the correct YouTube channel IDs (older channels prior to the Google+ integration are unaffected but newer ones use somewhat long numerical IDs—here are some examples), wouldn't it be better drop the two YouTube templates altogether and use the MediaWiki extension for this? We wouldn't have to deal with the channel ID problem anymore and we would be able to set width and height sizes like we do with images. TCRF uses this extension in case you're interested on examples (their Pokémon Red and Blue article has a section where a YouTube video is embedded using the extension). I'm just not sure if it supports mobile view properly but it'd be worth a shot, IMHO.

To simply embed a YouTube video with the MediaWiki extension, all you have to do is add <youtube>(Video ID)</youtube>. To specify the size of the embed, you instead use <youtube width="[value]" height="[value]">(Video ID)</youtube>. SatoMew 14:32, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Can you provide a screenshot showing how it is supposedly broken in mobile view? It's hard to diagnose a problem simply from the statement of "It's broken".
We have no intention of changing extensions, as our template is merely a frame for which a different extension call is used, and the templates allow us better control over where videos are allowed to be used. As for the attribution cell, that can simply be modified to work better with YouTube's changes. We want people to properly attribute videos back to their uploader. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 02:21, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
It's broken because it doesn't scale to fit the width of the screen, thus adding the need for horizontal scrolling. Now, it's not a template that causes a lot of trouble as-is but it could be improved.
As to the attribution of YouTube videos, linking to/embedding them alone is sufficient because the source is the video itself. By requiring the wiki to have the author's alias, you're adding a cumbersome and unnecessary layer of complexity since the video page on YouTube already has the author's information, not to mention that the alias can change at the author's will, therefore rendering the wiki's information potentially invalid. If you want to keep the current MediaWiki extension and the template, then the parameter for the author's alias should at least go away due to its actual impracticality. SatoMew 17:39, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Template Edits Requested

I'd do at least two of them myself as they seem simple enough, but the template in question is locked to non-staff.

I'm through verifying 612 Pokémon in the Rumble World Dex, now slowly getting to 719. We absolutely need a variable for that in the template. It would be identical to the Mystery Dungeon ("md") in how it works since multiple areas would need to be allowed, but looking at "rumble2", I think it's formatted the exact same way. Once it's in, I can start adding anchor links to the table where the Pokémon appears when I add the data, and I will start doing that as soon as I verify the missing undexed entries on my table. For that purpose, I'm going to use various Let's Plays popping up, there are videos of the Starlight, Distortion, Plasma, and Legend Balloons (video is as good as playing it yourself), plus I have all of the Balloons myself and am creating a personal list from the game data to use when editing later.

We also need Pokémon Shuffle. There's not much else to do in there until the next event or batch of 15 stages nowadays, so anyone can help out editing that based on the data already at Pokémon Shuffle even if they've never played the game.

Super goku also posted this message at the template requesting those as well as Pokémon Bank (I don't understand why for this one), Pokémon Battle Trozei, Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon XD (I thought those two were on it already, hmm), and a few others including Dream Radar, which does have a few dozen Pokémon from the Unova days. CycloneGU (talk) 19:52, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

We have intention to convert the spin-offs to use the same type of availability templates as the main games, so the templates don't need server-heavy updates every single time a new game happens to be released, and so information can be readily added. You can view a screenshot of an early test here. We'll make a decision regarding this conversion at our upcoming Editorial Board meeting, and get any changes started this weekend. Additionally, Colosseum and XD are listed with the main games due to their direct connectivity & trading functions. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 02:21, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Ah, that's where I saw Colosseum and XD. If you haven't, I'll reply at the template page (referring to this section) to the user who asked for them in that template. Please keep me appraised of when you finalize how to do it; I'll be in there doing all the Rumble World Pokémon data. Currently at 667/719 in-game on the tally and will likely just put boss info into my list for those who only appear in the one place; there are still a select few others I have to encounter aside from bosses.
Going through my Miiverse screenshots for anything useful now and trying to take new ones with the Archives in mind. Got a battle with Keldeo in there, even! Latest group is useful area pictures in-stage or the selection screen for the areas, whose pages I've been creating here. CycloneGU (talk) 04:39, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Not to rush, but is there any update on this yet? I know you wanted to start changes this weekend, and I don't see any changes in place yet, so am just seeking a timeframe. I'm busy catching Arceus daily right now anyway (since the types cycle), but am hopeful to get most of my final missing Dex entries in direct game data (ten are Legendaries, six from Sinnoh, but I'm sure they all only have one location each anyway) when I challenge the World Championship mission - the final one - tomorrow, so I'm ready to start updating the information whenever the template's ready. And frankly, I expect many Legendaries in the World Championship. so I'd be disappointed if they are NOT there. Also a couple others in particular I hope to see, too. CycloneGU (talk) 05:12, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
We discussed the possible template changes during our meeting, and we have decided that the same format as the main game availability is the way to go. There will need to be some additional testing with the templates, specifically to see if the existing templates will accomplish the needed task or if spin-off titles will need a modified version of the templates. (Which is basically the start of any sort of significant template changes.) I'll be working on a proper test page shortly. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 06:52, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the update. I'm over 700 now, as well (701), so still 18 to verify first-hand in the Dex data, but I've seen some (excepting Back and Special - Legendary - bosses, mainly, which were by observation when I did the pages) in area lists before, so I think my data is pretty much complete. Just verifying Dex data against what I have now when I encounter them. Will stand by and can send the list to anyone else wishing to help. CycloneGU (talk) 18:17, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Problem with redirects...

Actually, when you put any other templates or something in a redirect (most common is the delete and discussdelete template), it won't auto-redirect anymore. Can it still be fixed? Thanks! --~~ThePokémonFanSince1995~~-- 12:06, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

it isn't an error, it's simply the way MediaWiki works for redirects. The only content that belongs on a redirect is the redirect code. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 16:37, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Shuffle Sprites from Partner Wiki?

I asked Abcboy about it and it seems the answer is not yet known. Do we have an answer? Please get back to us on his talk page if you could so we're both aware. CycloneGU (talk) 02:04, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
