It appears that the user Luigisam is a vandal. Cher is a blatant reference to the American singer, in fact it is one of if not the most blatant reference Pokemon's dub has done. I know you live down under but surely the people down there know who Cher is. I'm in England and I know who she is, so "speculation" my foot. In other words, obvious reference is obvious. Not sure what's available on the Aussie Netflix or how you guys get Pokemon down there, but take a look and see for yourself. I know Cher because my mum (RIP) was a huge Cher fan. It's not just the name, it's the particular voice that Hillary Thomas gives her. So it isn't "speculation" as you so smartly put it, it's a blatant reference. Chloe as a protagonist

I get what you mean that she's not been labeled a protagonist, but it's not like the show explicitly labels who's a main character and who isn't (aside from Ash of course). It usually depends on promotional trailers/marketing and appearances alongside Ash and Goh. Ever since Chloe caught Eevee, she's basically become a Trainer. Supporting anime characters would usually be a rival of one of the main characters, but recently Chloe has been accompanying Ash and Goh a LOT more than before, now that she has a Pokemon of her own. Evolution Availability

It's basically confirmed that since the base form Pokémon are available in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl/Legends: Arceus, that their evolutions will be as well, so there's no need to undo it. Pre-release or not, it's common sense that the evolutions will be present in the game's code, unless it's a special case like Yellow Pikachu (meant to emulate the anime) and Let's Go Partner Pikachu and Partner Eevee (meant to emulate Yellow).

As far as I'm concerned, this is not the case for Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl/Legends: Arceus.

I've decided already not to do this for Pokemon that appeared already in the original Diamond and Pearl because the wild encounter ratios and pools can vary in remakes. Crummymummy (talk) 17:52, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Yes... you do know how this works. I've told you... many times before. Lots of times actually. If you plan making any changes to a templates layout, then that needs to be discussed. Don't just do as you please.

The changes you made weren't as drastic as the changes you would usually do, but it still needs to be discussed. You added a completely new column and shifted around the champion cells. That still counts as a big change. What specifically needed to be changed? And I think I've mostly completed it and if the staff think it's good for mainspacing, this might be ready for it. Absol's move

The problem with above statement is that Air Slash's recent animation in the anime is very similar to what Drew's Absol uses as Razor Wind back in AG. The game animation doesn't entirely help in this case, as it is still a bit questionable to judge without the chance of an error given how similar the two moves look/has looked over the course of time in both media. Razor Wind is basically Absol's signature move in the anime, as in that Absol has used the move in the anime more than any other species. To me, that fact and the fact that this attack is white and not blue, in addition to the aforementioned charging turn (which, to me, is a dead giveaway to it being Razor Wind), are solid proofs of the move's identity. In JN065, we saw a confirmed use of Psycho Cut, and the animation (one blade per slash vs multiple blades per slash) and coloration (purple vs white) of the move were notably different. Question about Lance (anime)

What is the general consensus on Lance's current status in the anime (a Champion or former Champion)?

According to FinnishPokéFan92, Lance lost his Champion title, but outside of Lance being referred to as an Elite Four member in JN012 (which I don't feel is sufficient enough evidence), there doesn't seem to be anything that definitively states that Lance is a former Champion. After looking into edit history on various pages, Finnish seems to be the primary advocate for this as well.

Gust picture debate

BigDocFan, Finnish, and I have been trying to update the Pidgeotto picture to Journeys, but Pikablu insists otherwise and has continually reverted those edits. So far, my talk page discussion with Pikablu has gone in circles with no real consensus. Their argument seems to be that the older picture features Pidgeotto using Gust back when it was a Normal-type move and that it is more important than using an updated picture. Though Pikablu's reasoning of "showing it as its original type" doesn't hold water, as you have said, since you can't really tell a move was another type by just looking at it. Lavender/Shion Town Romaji

Hello. I noticed that on the Lavender Town article, Lavender Town's Japanese name has inconsistent transliterations. It is transliterated as "Cion" two times and as "Sion" once. Isn't シオン supposed to be transliterated as "Shion"? I've only seen it be read as "Shion" and the kana シ is always transliterated as "Shi", so I thought "Shion" is the correct way to transliterate it. Policy question

If a voice director's word on who voices a character contradicts what a voice actor says, then whose word should take precendent? I can think of two examples from XY alone where this has happened.

The page for Ornithol currently says that Wayne Grayson voiced the character, and this information apparently came straight from the voice director at the time. However, Mike Pollock has claimed that he himself voiced the character, and that the information on Bulbapedia is inaccurate.

Secondly, the cast list BigDocFan received from the voice director listed Eddy Lee along with Pay Pental as voicing Jan (XYS05), however, when I tried to add the former to the character's page, I was informed that Eddy Lee himself had denied voicing Jan on Twitter. Recurring Cresselia

He uses them, they're stated to be his type of preferred pokemon in his Trainer's Eyes info (which you're selectively ignoring in favor of the ORAS label), and they're his favorite. Ergo he is a specialist. Almost all Champions use a variety regardless if they're a specialist or not (Wallace being the only exception; even Iris added some variety to her dragons), so yeah, he uses plenty of non-Steel types. Z-Move and Max Move lists

Bea (anime)

Hi, this would probably be something to ask after the double episode of the battle against Bea, but anyway... I was wondering what the chances of this page here going to mainspace. I tried to put a lot of information about the character that isn't on the main page(fighting style, her Pokémon, her personality, more information about her manga counterpart) and since she's one of the main rivals of the Journeys it's kind of a real pity she doesn't have a page of her own. Now with the next two episodes, this page will even be able to receive a lot of information too. I've even tried to avoid writing errors and try to revise the article whenever I can. 1. Talk pages are generally used for suggesting improvements and ideas to help grow Bulbapedia. It functions just as a talk page on Wikipedia would. For a full list of rules see the Talk page policy.
2. The number of edits is secret, and will remain secret. We do not just say the amount as to not have users just make the required amount and then solely focus on their userpage. The reason for the limit dates back to the early days of Bulbapedia when users would edit their userpages too much (I'm guilty of doing this in the past), thus necessitating the need for a limit so users can go back to expanding Bulbapedia.
3. Not sure what "special rules" you are looking for, we do have a bunch of policies that you could check out if you want to know the rules.
4. That I might need to bring up to the Tech, but it might just be a caching thing. Try clearing your cache if your edit doesn't appear to show. Edit: I've asked and another senior staff said it's a cloudflare thing, but you can clear your cache to see the more recent version of an article.--ForceFire 06:26, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

On the Bulbapedia homepage, it says: "Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia about Pokémon to which anyone can contribute." Very well.

A few months ago the user in question complained about my attempt to organize Chloe's page (among other things, but beside the point), it created so much case that I ended up removing all the initial draft. It's been 3 MONTHS and he hasn't done absolutely anything on the page, and as no one else has volunteered to try to put content there, the page is almost two years out of date (this is for a character who appears frequently in the anime).

In the Pokémon Evolutions announcement it was announced that Barry would have a focus, and as such it was shown that his starter in that canon is Empoleon. At about the same time I did all the organization of the sections, I looked for photos and tried to organize the page for new information that would appear. After all, we're talking about a Pokémon that hasn't been shown in the main anime for almost 10 years.

Nobody made any changes to it, today with the showing of the episode, I removed the hiding of the content already organized (and even the admin Chosen, added an extra section and a tag to put more information). This time he claimed that supposedly, such material is more related to games than anime.

The user in question has once again removed EVERYTHING I PUT. Even though I didn't put any written words in the article, I just realigned images. Anyway, I wanted to know what their authority to remove information like that, since we have articles that consider GOTCHA! as anime content, situations where Pokémon that appeared in similar media are put together , the character is named Barry in the episode and is all content from Evolutions, Twilight Wings, Generations or Origins under Project Anime jurisdiction?

I've already realized that his problem is with me and not with what I do, although I think it's weird all over someone who probably lives on the other side of the world. I wanted to know how much of this "anyone can contribute" thing is valid, because it sucks to have to go through validation from someone who isn't even part of the staff. Last time I was really interested in not posting here anymore, I continued because some people encouraged me to continue. Me and Reinhartmax are in a disagreement regarding how the devolutions in JN090 should be presented. Rein wants to add the pre-evolutions and Eggs into the Pokémon articles as owned Pokémon and the "Anime Pokémon hatched from Eggs" category, since the main characters technically owned those stages while the Pokémon devolved. I respectfully disagree, as it may give a false image to what stage the Pokémon was actually obtained in. Because it implies that Ash had it as a Dratini/that is was shown as a Dratini before it was caught. Pichu is fine because it was actually shown as a Pichu. I've already explained it many times in this talk page section and in my edit summary why it doesn't count. It's only in Ash's Gengar's page because it's noting the history of the individual throughout the series, it does not mean we're counting it as actually having been a Haunter/Gastly in its debut appearance. The only reason it was shown as a Haunter and Gastly in JN090 was purely plot related and out of necessity, because they weren't going to have Gengar devolve straight into an Egg and confuse the kids as to why Gengar went straight to an Egg and not through its evolutionary line. Pikachu and Heliolisk were actually seen (Pichu)/stated (Heliolisk) to be in their pre-evolved forms prior to their capture. Achievements by specific Pokémon.

Hi, I have organized some templates with some things that I found interesting to work on.

Basically, it would separate the achievements that each Pokémon received, and in some cases with images of the moment that specif Pokémon achieved the feat (as I did in the Scyther or Arcanine template).

My suggestion would be to fit these templates as they are here on this page I've been working on.

• Goh's Boldore

I think this would end up being interesting because some small championships, we don't have information in the main article, like Grookey's article which only has basic information. I don't think it's worth creating a template for relatively minor tournaments; not everything needs to be a template. Taking your Boldore example, what information would be missing if it were in text form? Because everything in that template could easily be put in one paragraph. Comprehensive list of still obtainable Mythical Pokemon

My list of obtainable Mythical Pokemon was removed because it's "unnecessary and info in the individual articles". I disagree with this sentiment as having all the information in one place would be much easier, more convenient, and more concise for readers. Also, much of the information I mentioned within my edit was not information already available on this wiki already, let alone the page it was on. I can understand if it would go at the bottom of the trivia or something, but I would just like to see if it can be re-added or moved somewhere else on the wiki. I tried to eliminate part of the "wall of text" feel by keeping each entry short, but it could probably also be slightly reformatted to help more (but is also why I suggested having it at the very bottom of the trivia, and therefore the page). Not all of the information present in my edit is found on other pages as well and I don't see what the problem is with there being glitch/exploited Pokemon on the list. Bulbapedia has pages explaining all sorts of bugs and glitches in-depth and how to recreate them, including glitches to get Pokemon, like the Mew glitch. I tried not to pass judgment on what should be on the list and not by my standard of legitimacy. It was intended as a list to let you know which Mythical Pokemon were still available, with each entry being ordered with legitimate ways at the top and less/not legitimate ways at the bottom for each Pokemon. Also, like I said before, having all the information in one place that makes sense makes it much easier for readers looking for the information or that are just curious about it. There are plenty of pages with somewhat overlapping information. In the end I guess if you don't like it it's not going back up since you're staff, but I added that information because it's something I would've liked being there as a reader. I started contributing because I've been watching through the entire series for a YouTube video I'm making, and I've been reading about each episode on the site as I go. Wrongly invalidating my concerns

The reason why I am trying to get some of these links changed is because the parents of today's society will punish their children for absolutely anything and we just can't risk this anymore. I think that with these Wikipedia and other links to NSFW (at least by some parent's standards) content, parents could become paranoid about what their children are reading/watching/looking at. Besides I keep mentioning over and over again that there are legitimately damaging things on sites like Wikipedia which can be closely linked even if the page that this site links to isn't it. I should not known stuff about the adults only ESRB rating in fifth grade, for example. The fact that the content itself is damaging and the parents of kids can punish them further makes a double wrong, and two wrongs never make a right. Mario60866 (talk) 08:54, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

We can't control how parents will react, and we can't control how harsh they will punish their children. We also can't control what people view on their computers, whether intentionally or by accident. The bottom line is, if you feel another site has hurtful content then you should take it up over there, not here. We can't control what Wikipedia does on their articles. The problem I see is that it's way too much, some of the entries are far too long and would be more suitable for the plot section of an episode article. Histories should generally be short and to the point, there's no need to add every little detail of what a character does in an episode. My initial objective would be to do the same as is done here on pages such as the manga characters, in fact, any anime character pages basically follow the same pattern;

In JN080, Cynthia (or any random character) says hi.

In JN096, Cynthia (or any random character) appears in a flashback.

In JN097, Cynthia (or any random character) looks to the sky.

That is, much of what was on the page before, fit perfectly on the page of the games counterpart(practically making useless, Cynthia from the anime has an exclusive page). But when you look at Cynthia from the anime's angle, she's a character that has been built for more than 10 years. Even more with a huge plot built for the battle between her and Ash, which Pokémon Journeys has been anticipating will happen.

I don't believe this is something inherent to the manga characters, because Paul's page follows a different construction than usual, for example. Even being better written than most rivals in the anime. A lot of what I see on Cynthia's page in the anime is Cynthia's story from Ash's perspective, when it should be Cynthia's story from the anime's perspective.

You are assuming that one entry talking about one bee Pokemon applies to all bee Pokemon. One entry states that Teddiursa uses the pollen and fruit of Beedrill (and just Beedrill), while the other states that it takes the honey from Combee (and only from Combee). I'm personally of the mindset of the second one, as it trims the page down. And on that note, should regional forms get their own page? The idea of a focus episode is that it's an episode that puts focus on a character, giving them character development or progress in their goal. Episodes where Leon just battles and ranks up/down, and nothing more can't be considered focus episodes. As I said before, if you look at the Speculation Policy, you'll notice that there's a section that lays out a single exception: that if a recurring trainer has an evolution of a Pokémon they no longer carry, it is safe to assume that it's the same Pokémon. Left handed

Since when every piece of trivia needs to be important? It's specifically designated for information that is not important but sill somehow interesting. It's the same thing as hair or eyes color that appear in every character's infobox, and I don't see you being annoyed by it. Same goes for height, weight, birth date, zodiac sign, and even blood type. Fictional japanese characters have them more often because that assigns some personality traits to them. Those are in the infobox and are not trivial. Most of those are either physical or personal traits that are important in terms of character design. Zodiac signs and blood types are the two I don't find too important, but it is still important in Japanese culture (and most others). For ones like Gastly or Dratini, it should be there in the sense that a Gastly or Dratini appeared in the episode. Edited images

Hi, I'm starting a test with some apps and I made some changes to anime images. I removed the background from the images and edited them so it looks a lot like some artwork images. I would like to know if they can eventually be placed in the articles and maybe stay as the main images. I think that in those images where the character appears in full body they work very well, but would like other opinions. I did a test on two pages to see what the result looks like and saved it here for someone to take a look at.

I think the discussion is based on the point where they're trying to build something for Chloe into the plot of the anime. Chloe may not be a main character (I slightly disagree), but she is more of a recurring character. Considering she has a similar amount of focal episodes, and how the third intro she appears with Ash and Goh a lot throughout, I feel her collecting the stones should stay, and omitting her from some major events seem weird, such as in JN074, Dawn alone did not discover Cresselia, Chloe discovered it first. I feel there should be a definitive discussion on considering Chloe a main character or not, especially with how she has been featured more prominently now. Okay, but if an event relevant to a "supporting character" happens why should that information be omitted? In the end this is what I said about character building and no one answered anything. For example, Cynthia had a whole character building throughout the anime to get to the battle she's going to have against Ash, Chloe until episode 50 we didn't even know if she would be a trainer or not, now she is a trainer that is being built a story arc for her and we come back to the same discussion. I personally think Eevee won't even evolve, mainly because it's supposed to become a Gigantamax Eevee, but something is being done for Chloe and there's no point in ignoring it. I still don't understand why Chloe is not listed under encountering Cresselia in JN074, it feels off putting to pretend she was not in that situation with Dawn. There are examples of non main characters having major events listed about them, an example being in JN090 where Faba learning that Kukui is the Masked Royal is listed, yet Faba has appeared in far less significance than Chloe. If I'm correct, this comes from the official website on TV Tokyo. The problem with using this page as source is that it is not updated frequently, including some broken links. And yes, this Faba example is one more point. Although the anime is still Ash's story, it's been several years since it's just "Ash's anime". Suggestions

Hi! Where could I submit suggestions for the editorial board to consider? I've just finished completing the learnsets for every move in LA and with that I'd like to drastically overhaul/simplify how the move learnset templates look. It'd be a lot of work, but there is plenty of time until the next games. I already discussed the matter with User:SnorlaxMonster who broadly supported it, so I'd like to start the official process of having my suggestions evaluated/fine-tuned/accepted. You can find everything you need to know in my sandbox.

Another suggestion would be using galleries when we list the confirmed Pokémon an artist has designed. This seems pretty straight-forward to me, I hope I don't need to list reasons as to why. It would really help people understand and appreciate the artists more.

Point 1 and 4 seem to go hand in hand, I wouldn't mind using the sugimori artwork in favor of the menusprites for single image templates. Using them for a list makes the template look larger than it needs to be, so menusprites (being smaller) works better imo. As for the types, the older ones are preferred because the text is larger than those on the newer symbols. The new symbol may look nicer but it doesn't help those unaware of what those smbol represents.

For points 2 and 3, Maahirmomtaz is in the wrong here. I have no idea why they are making those edits and someone should ask them why on their talk page. If they doesn't respond, then staff can make them respond. Using the sup template for game specific moves is indeed how we do things. Though I do agree that it has recently gotten ridiculous, and your templates are indeed a better way of showing them. I don't think having both games and generations in one header would be confusing, as long as the reader understands the purpose of such layout.

For point 5, I'm 50/50 on it. I think they should be separated for being completely different learning methods, but I can understand merging them to save space.

As for the galleries, eh. We don't do that for voice actor articles, so I don't think it's worth doing it for the designer articles. Just bloats the article up, imo.--ForceFire 07:29, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the response. I hope I didn't come off as arrogant, but I'm just used to sending a reminder to offices IRL. There was no frustration behind it.

The two points that I care about most are #3 and #5, the ones that would require the most work and the ones that are most needed. I'll address all of them one by one briefly.

1: I just think the different line heights look pretty jarring. Consistency is always the best, and considering we can fix all the templates that use menusprites this easily, it should be done. I do dislike that all of them need to be 68x68, but that's life. Nothing we can do about that (unless of course we move away from pixel art, which gives us endless sclability options).

2&3: I think they noticed the situation getting ridiculous as well. If my suggestions are accepted, we would only need to use the superscripts for the few forms and new Pokémon that were introduced in Pt, B2W2, ORAS and USUM. I trust the reader will understand it. But we can always leave a note in the footer explaining that Gen VII and Gen VIII needed to be broken up.

4: I think the era of menusprites is over. We'll inevitably get confirmation in a few months when the SV trailers start to showcase some gameplay. But neither BDSP nor LA uses them anymore. I think it's done. Consistency is always the best move, and a core quality of Bulbapedia. I love the spritework personally, but they don't look as good on the Switch as they do on Bulbapedia. We can't keep using menusprites and the LA headshots with whatever SV will introduce, then a possible fourth artstyle by the end of 2023. I understand the issue with the Sugimori artworks taking up too much place, but technically they wouldn't. There would be just less white spaces. I pray for a game where every Pokémon is available again (mainly for this reason), but until then the Sugimori artworks are the only thing every Pokémon has (Eiscue forms and Galarian Zen Darmanitan don't need to be incldued, thankfully). I also don't think they look bad, I can try making a longer list with 100+ Pokémon if that's something you think would be more convincing.

4: As for the type bars, I'm not sure that I understand your complaint. I don't see why we'd need to use the ones from 2006. AFAIK the Fairy type bars are fan-made. My sandbox displays the version with the type names. They are perfectly legible, and the symbols aren't too small either. The colors broadly fit the colors Bulbapedia uses as well. We should move away from pixel art, because monitors with higher resolutions don't accommodate them too well. I need to zoom out a whole lot for them to look crisp. Ironically the type bars I am using are now obsolete as well, BDSP, LA and SV use a new version, so I shall implement those (though I'd need permission to remove the dead space around them).

5: This is partly about future-proofing, partly about reducing bloat, and partly about displaying information as neatly as possible. I am certain we will get new learning/tutoring methods later down the line, and we don't need another section for Giga Drain with 300+ entries that contains the same information. It also addressed the issue with moves that keep going for TMs to tutors to TRs, then back to tutors, etc. I don't think it would be confusing at all.

Galleries: I wouldn't want them to be used on voice actor pages either, utterly useless IMO. I think there is a stronger argument for displaying artworks on the pages of the designers. A list just feels lifeless, while a gallery feels respectful to the artists, and helps users understand their design philosophy.

I want to get as much input from experienced users as possible. I really want these changes to accommodate everyone, since I think this is the way going forward and something no other big sites have. Your posts doesn't seem arrogant or confrontational at all. I can understand wanting to bump a discussion when an admin doesn't respond to it. If you want to reach out to more users but not spam multiple talk pages, you can always use the Editor's hub talk page. Though going to a staff member works just as well, as they will most likely relay the message onto the other staff members in the staff discord.

1: Nothing we can do if the images are of varying sizes. We can't expand the smallest menusprite to be the same size as the largest menusprite.

2/3: Seems we are in agreement on this. I don't mind separate columns within a generation for separate games.

4: I was actually under the impression that the artwork would make the other cells have more whitespace than needed as opposed to menusprites, but checking now, doesn't seem to be the case. Probably is more ideal looking comparing the two again.

4: As for the types, (if I remember correctly) that was what was mentioned as the reason for using the older type images in a staff chat. The text would appear too small in the size we would have them, as opposed to the older images where the text were essentially the image. It's probably fine for mobile, but not so much for desktop.

5: Yeah, not entirely against reducing repeated information, so I won't be bother if we do decide to merge them together.

Galleries: That's understandable. I think having the images be smaller would change my mind, just having them how it is on your page makes it seem cluttered.

And just a couple points about your templates: I think leaving the tutor/tm/tr row white works best to avoid color clashes (using EP for IoA may or may not be confused with CT, unless there's not much of a difference in movesets), and leaving out games where the move isn't coded in makes sense (though I think a note in the footnote might be best to avoid confused users asking questions).--ForceFire 14:53, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

1: I was thinking about what we have on the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl page. The version-exclusive list already uses the Moveevtrytm template, so we'd only need to change the headers (I think). The images are not altered, only centered. I am not exactly sure which part of the code makes them appear this way, but you can't deny that it looks more cohesive.

4: Here is an image (https://imgur.com/n0czury) I want you to look at. I use 2560x1440 monitors and at default zoom, everything on Bulbapedia appears to me as it does in the bottom row. Amazing for artworks. So much detail. Terrible for spritework, unfortunately. In order to enjoy them, I need to use 80% zoom (the standard for smaller resolutions), which makes everything tiny. You can also compare the readability of the type bars on the image. Exact same font height. I think one can read both just fine. By completely getting rid of spritework, we now have a zoom-proof wiki. People who are hard of seeing can now freely zoom in without the fear of blurry pixelart. So my proposal actually accommodates readability, if you think about it. It also shows that we don't need to stick with 68px, we can go smaller, if we want to further reduce scrolling. Or we can use 70px on move pages, but go with 50px for the headers on Pokémon pages. Endless possibilities. It would need some manual work, since the naming conventions for menusprites and Sugimori artwork are different, but that's part of future-proofing.

Galleries: Okay, I'll make some variations. I just used the default Bulbapedia gallery, I'm fine with scaling down.

IoA is unfortunately completely unreadable on a white background, and since it's neither a game, neither a separate DLC, using the EP superscript is more accurate. We don't list the tutor locations on the move pages (not in this case), so it doesn't matter whether it's obvious that the tutors are available on the IoA or the CT. Trademarked names

I had to revert your edits at the Overqwil, Ursaluna, Sneasler and Enamorus pages because you caused the unofficial Japanese transliteration to only appear in the tooltip for the kana name, which appears as ラブトロス
Romanisation (in this case, for Enamorus). I think that's rather undesirable. For consistency, it should display as ラブトロス
Rabutorosu for now. It's always been like this.

If the block is an indefinite block then you're not likely to get unblocked until you've proven yourself to be a good editor. If you want to suggest an edit I would leave a comment on the talk page of the article.
