Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Alamedyang!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • Read over the style primer before making your edits. It is a basic outline of Bulbapedia style. For a more in-depth set of rules, see the manual of style.
  • Keep an eye on the Messages from the Editor on the main page, to stay informed on current events on Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The é can be accessed by holding Alt and typing either 130 or 0233 on a Windows computer, and by using Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can easily click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a capital B. The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon or other media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • Image uploading is done on Bulbagarden Archives, a separate wiki accessible through the toolbox in the sidebar. This is done so that both Bulbapedia and Bulbanews have access to the images uploaded. To activate your account at the Archives and Bulbanews, please login there using the same username and password you use here on Bulbapedia.
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:Alamedyang/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • Having said this, please make sure that you do contribute adequately to the main namespace. Bulbapedia is not MySpace or Facebook.
  • All users are allowed to edit the userspace 3 times a day. If you edit more than 3 times, you may be subjected to a warning. If you ignore the warning, you will be given three chances to comply. If you do not comply, your ability to modify the userspace will be revoked for a period of time.
  • Unless prior permission is given, no user is permitted to edit another user's page. Furthermore, edits to other users' pages are permitted only if there are problems that spread to other parts of Bulbapedia, such as broken links that appear on the wanted pages, switching out duplicate images that appear on the Archives, etc.
  • Fan fictions, missions, riddles, games, and anything else deemed not suitable for the wiki will not be allowed. If you would like to add something, but do not know if it is acceptable, ask an administrator.
  • A list of administrators that you can contact in case of a problem can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! --- Kogoro | Talk to me | 20:38, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Wait

Is that game guide you have for Pokémon Trading Card Game (game) or for its sequal, Pokémon Trading Card Game 2: Great Rocket Visits? MoldyOrange 22:56, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

It's the latter. I have an old walkthrough on GameFaqs and a few other places, but I'm currently revamping it. I also have a website with a ton of old-school card scans, which I'd like to "donate" to the wiki here... but I'd rather rescan a few of those and do some other quality checking first. --Alamedyang 3:02, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, your game guide is exactly what I need information from, your timing is awesome! We will have to work together for a while when getting the Card GB 2 info (we barely have anything other than generic stuff like "Grace is a character in Pokémon Card GB 2. (end of article)). We will need to work together and I think it would be easier if I can have your AIM if you have one. Do you? MoldyOrange 22:24, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't get on AIM very much, so as a means of contact it won't work, ^_^; sorry! But yeah, I'd love to help flesh out the GB2 sections of this place. For now, updating my walkthrough is my highest priority, though... I'll redouble my efforts on finishing my guide, and then I can upload game images and info. I'm actually not to sure on what is wiki-worthy in terms of content -- I usually utilize wikis, not contribute to them -- but I have the Official Guidebook to the TCG for GB2, so anything goes as far as game info is concerned. When my newer walkthrough is finished, you'll see what I mean -- what I have now is rather inadequate. -- Alamedyang 14 October 2008
Okay, one of the major things we will need is theme deck names and theme deck lists... I have started filling in deck lists from GB1 and would like to do the same for GB2. For how the GB1 decks are organized, see Template:GB Decks, and I would like to set GB2 up in a similar way on the same template (but I also want to have the kanji name and the romanization name as well). I have only been able to do four from GB1 and we have only about 5 deck names (not the cards in them, just the names) from GB2...that would be a place that we can start. MoldyOrange 22:31, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
All right. I can read kana and Pokemon-related kanji, so that won't be a problem at all. I'll let you know when I've finished my walkthrough and when I can switch focus to the wiki. (But I'm glad someone else is interested in this obscure game!) --Alamedyang 12:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
You have a lot of images on your site that we don't, do you mind if I upload them here and we use them? MoldyOrange 23:18, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Nope, go right ahead -- the wiki is a perfect place for them. However, note that I've rescanned the Japanese Gym decks (I have all of them now), VS cards, Vending cards, the English Gym cards, the Intropack decks, and am planning on rescanning the English Base, Jungle, Fossil, and Rocket cards for consistancy's sake -- perhaps you could wait on uploading those so things are more even-looking. You can upload any of my other scans at any time you like, though. Getting all my scans on the wiki was actually something I've wanted to happen for a long time, but I've been dreading the task, so this helps me, too. ^_^ Thank you! --Alamedyang 2:29, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! This helps a bunch! Actually how many of the VS cards do you have? I've noticed the ones you already have on your VS page, are those the only ones? Some of them are mislabeled and with the wrong card, you might want to check those. MaverickNate 02:36, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
In addition to the ones on the page (I'll check the labeling when I upload the rest -- thanks for informing me, though), I've puchased another few dozen singles, but no more holos, I'm afraid. There're surprisingly difficult to find. Oh, and I've decided to rescan the Japanese Neo 1 set and the Japanese gym sets, as well. By the way, it's better for the wiki pics to be in PNG format, right? For my website, for bandwidth reasons, I need them as JPGs, as they're 90% smaller, but should I give you the original PNGs to upload? --Alamedyang 16:22, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, for the cards, about 95% of them are in jpg. form, with the other five percent being phased out because they are gif.s. We actually prefer jpg for the cards, so yours are fine ;) But I have a question. Are you able to take game screenshots from Pokémon Card GB 1 and 2? MaverickNate 01:30, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I can take screenshots. And I was wondering about the file format because Wikipedia's policy is to prefer PNGs, and thought it was possible this wiki was the same. Anyway, I'm afraid I'm only halfway through processing all my scans (there was a TON... 0_0), but I'll keep at it. Some completed sets should be up on my website and available for uploading soon. --Alamedyang 3:33, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Okay. If you would look at the bottom of the page here: User:Politoed666/The List, you will see an array of cards that have only been "released" through the Pokémon Card GB games. If you could take and upload cropped screenshots similar to the one seen here: Moltres (GB 1), that would be fantastic. I was also wondering if those cards have Pokédex entries in-game. We need some of those too. A full amount of the GB cards can be seen here. Category:Pokémon Card GB cards. I hope you don't mind doing this.
Also, pngs may be prefered for things like sprites and screenshots, but not necessarily needed for cards. MaverickNate 22:41, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
I've finished processing all the scans I've mentioned (finally!), except for the rescanning of the first four sets in both languages, which can wait until more of the holes are filled in. I'll get to work on putting up the GB-only cards, and look into translating the Pokédex entries, although that'll take longer. Now that the scans are done, I'll go back to working on my walkthrough some more, and I'll let you know when that's done. --Alamedyang 20:48, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
One last thing about those GB cards. They are supposed to have illustrators, do you know who these said illustrators are? Also, your site, the delta species era decks and unseen forces are not showing up. I don't know why, but I think you should know that. MaverickNate 23:39, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
In the closing credits of the game, several names are given credit for illustrations, but there is no way of knowing which did which -- and most of them were adapting already-existing card images, anyway. And thanks for the heads up: I forgot to upload those folders! 0_0 If you hadn't noticed, they would've been missing for weeks! --Alamedyang 16:13, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Also, I think you added some Ruby and Sapphire cards, but they aren't showing up, like those sets did. You also have Dustox 6 as Camerupt 4. MaverickNate 16:57, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
In addition to those Ruby and Sapphire cards already mentioned, other cards are not appearing. Most of them are on the Japanese Gym Decks section, most specifically on Lt. Surge's section, but also, the ____'s Chansey image does not either. Furthermore, your have the Crystal Guardian Camerupt as the first thing on EX Unseen Forces page. MaverickNate 04:26, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks again! Everything you mentioned is fixed now. (A lot mistakes were probably just due to the fact that I scanned over 2,000 cards this time around, and some got lost or went bad and had to be rescanned -- and I forgot to upload the pick-up scans.) Unfortunately, just because of the way our server is set up, there's no easy way to sink my offline master copy with the server; I have to do it all by hand... hence the mistakes. You're helping a ton, though. --Alamedyang 18:46, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

You are awesome!

Title says it all. MaverickNate 02:37, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much! But you're more awesome for actually doing the work I didn't want to do. ^_^ --Alamedyang 16:14, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
I've filled in all the ones that we don't have that you do currently. So, tell me when you put the DP era up, because we need a bunch of those, if you could please. MaverickNate 21:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
I've got my selection of DP era cards uploaded:
http://alamedyang.tejat.net/cards/scans/eng/dp/
http://alamedyang.tejat.net/cards/scans/eng/dp2/
http://alamedyang.tejat.net/cards/scans/eng/dp3/
http://alamedyang.tejat.net/cards/scans/eng/dp4/
http://alamedyang.tejat.net/cards/scans/eng/dp5/
Note that I've never bought DP cards as such: the first batch of DP1 scans were my little cousins' cards... ages 6 and 8. Needless to say, some of those cards were in bad shape, but since I didn't have any of those cards, I scanned them anyway. The rest (DP1-5) come from someone's collection that I bought out, which were in better shape but still not fantastic. I like to maintain a good level of quality on my scans, so I'm a little embarrassed of some of these images... this is one of the reasons I haven't linked to them on my site. You can use all the ones you like, naturally, and I won't be upset if you omit the bad scans. --Alamedyang (talk) 18:37, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Vending "Checklist" cards

Hi, Nate sent me over this way. Without realising it, I have stumbled across your site before when I started to help with the GB2 sets, so you were already helping with the wiki before you even joined! We are just about finishing the Vending cards, the only ones still to be done are the deck list bonus cards. Nate has scans of No.1 and No.2 on his talk page, and I have had trouble figuring out some of the title kanji characters because of the font. No.1 I think translates as "Are you a Pokemon of the open sea?", but I am not confident about it. Similarly, I think No.2 says "Rich rich owner of the Pokemon Mansion!". If you could verify these translations and if you have the other 3 deck list cards to add, it would be greatly appreciated! ~~nuva-kal 10:30, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Cool! I'm glad people are finding / using my site. (I'm always afraid that I've been uploading stuff for no one but myself; that the only one who frequents my site is me.) Unfortunately, I only have four of the five deck lists, but here are the names as I see it:
1) ポケモンタワーのなぞ? = The Puzzle of Pokemon Tower? (I don't know why that name merits a question mark, but that's what it says.)
2) ポケモンやしきでアッチッチ! = Ow-ow-ow! At the Pokemon Mansion (The Ow-ow-ow is supposed to indicate injury from heat, like a burn, but I'm not sure how to phrase that so it reads that way.)
3) サファリゾーンでおおあばれ! = Violence in the Safari Zone!
4) Missing! (T_T)
5) ハナダ!さいごのどうくつ = The Last Cave - Cerulean! (Actually, it goes "Cerulean! The Last Cave" but I think switching them around makes it read better. Or not. Whatever.)
The font does make them a little tricky to read, but I've been reading Japanese manga enough that psycho-cursive-whatever fonts don't trip me up that much any more... except when it comes to kanji. --Alamedyang 16:26, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Brilliant, thanks! I've found a low-res image of No.4 if you could get the name: - [1]. ~~nuva-kal 14:10, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Edit: Also, can you make out what the text says on the very bottom of the cards, to the left of the number? ~~nuva-kal 14:49, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Sure. 4) ふたごじまのタッツー = Horsea of the Seafoam Islands (Technically this could also be Horseas of the Seafoam Islands, but whatever.) The bottom of each card simply says "拡張シート緑版おすすめデッキNo._" which says "Green Vending Sheet recommended deck (list) No.__" --Alamedyang 16:57, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi again, got some more characters that are throwing up strange results (for me at least!)

1) あっちっち - An attack from a Turtwig card
2) なみなみ - An attack from a Piplup card
3) ちょっぱや - An attack from a Buizel card
4) どくのみ - An attack from a Pachirisu card
5) 相手に与えたダメージぶんのダメージカウンターを、自分からとる。- Attack text from a Croagunk card
Thanks ~~nuva-kal 20:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Whoa, these ones are tougher.
1) Like the Vending checklist, あっちっち means the sound you make when you get hurt from a burn/heat/fire... whatever that translates to in English. (I'm fond of Ouchie! or Owowow!)
2) This one confused me for a while because なみなみ (並々) means ordinary, which doesn't make sense for an attack. However なみ (波) means wave -- as in an ocean wave. Doubled up, it's most likely supposed to mean a cute little ocean wave... whatever that would be in English!
3) This one is just beyond me. I'll work at it some more, but I'm stumped for now.
4) どくのみ, for a Pokémon attack, could either be 毒の身 (poison body) or 毒のみ (nothing but poison). (Technically it could also be 毒飲み (poison drinking), but I sort of doubt it in this case!) Poison Body seems to be the most appropriate, even if it sounds a little strange.
5) I think it says, "Remove damage counters from Croagunk equal to the amount of damage dealt to the Defending Pokémon," or something like that. I'm not sure, though, because the language used for Croagunk does not match the language of similar effects on cards printed ten years ago (which I have on hand to check against). I don't know if the differences indicate a subtle difference in effects / sequence of effects, or if it's just an updated way of writing the description...
I hope this helps, even a little! I'm sorry I can't be too exact, but that's how it is when translating something from Japanese into English. --Alamedyang (talk) 03:11, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
I've noticed that most of the second attacks for this group of promos are one word doubled up, some of which can sound wierd and why I had problems with them. As for 3), after a bit of reading, I think it may mean "Very Fast", which in English would probably become Agility. Going off the attack effect, this would make sense. Thanks for your help! ~~nuva-kal 11:37, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

TCG, huh?

You play the TCG, huh? We can use moar TCG players 'round here. Do you still play competitively? Better question: Do you know what a Pokémon Lv.X is? Are you up-to-date on TCG goings-on? If so, we can use you in Project Decks. Consider joining! Oh, screw the sales pitch. I'm the only one who ever does anything! *sob* Please help! *sob* --ニョロトノ666 00:38, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Heh, that was fast! I don't play competitively now for financial reasons (plus I live in nowheresville, where the only regularly scheduled tourny is far away) but I keep an eye out on stuff that still happens -- for instance, I know what a Pokémon Lv.X is. ^_^ The only DP cards I actually have, though, are from other people's collections that I've bought out, since my purchases tend to focus on the older cards.
Anyway, after I finish revamping my TCG GB2 walkthrough, I can probably help do random stuff. Mostly I've been contributing through User:Maverick Nate, who's been uploading the scans from my own website (with my permission, of course), which I was too busy to do. Of scans, there's like another hundred or so that I just need to process. I'd probably wouldn't be much help for Project Decks, though, since most of my personal knowledge was acquired from pojo.com in 1999 and 2000. ^_^; --Alamedyang (talk) 00:57, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

New Birthday Pikachu Promo

Hi, been waiting for someplace to get a decent image of this card. [2] Could you translate it? It seems nowhere has details on this card yet, so it would be a great Bulbapedia exclusive! ~~nuva-kal 10:22, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Wow, what a card! That's a nice big scan, too, very easy for me to read (yay!). It says:
Happy Birthday
If today is your birthday, your opponent must give you 1 card from his or her collection as a present. (Your opponent chooses which card to give you.)
(L)(L) Present Max (30+)
If today is your birthday, this attack does 30 damage plus 20 more damage for each present you have received.
--Alamedyang (talk) 18:04, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Card is up; you are ace! ~~nuva-kal 21:37, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Old new year 2001 promo

I found an image of a card, and I don't know what card it is. I am fairly certain it does not have a page, and need to know what the translations are. Sorry it isn't bigger... a:Image:CelebiNewYear.jpg MaverickNate 00:00, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

It is none other than New_Century_Present_(Fan_Club_promo). I looked for the title of the card (plus "Celebi") on Google, and the only thing that came up was Bulbapedia (0_0). And a good thing, too, since that one would've been very difficult for me to read... ^_^; --Alamedyang (talk) 06:21, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, we found a new problem. A Wailmer promo from 2001: a:Image:WailmerPromo.gif. Again, sorry for the size. But, could you (try) to get the attack name and maybe find more info on it? MaverickNate 20:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

The attack name is Water Gun, and its attack effect is probably identical to all other uses of "Water Gun" on cards. As for its whereabouts... the Japanese Pokemon card website does not even acknowledge its existence (although the list is sort of unorganized), and the only other reference I can find is in Usagi-chan's Japanese promo spoiler, found here (EDIT: where she acknowledged that she has no idea where the card came from, what the promo ID is nor any other info). The thing about Usagi-chan's lists, though, is that she got all her text information from a Japanese website (alas, no more) which documented every single aspect of Japanese TCG releases, including really obscure stuff, like complete listings of the little code on the lower-left of ADV cards. (EDIT: This seems to suggest to me that the Wailmer info she has on her spoiler did not come from that Japanese site, because if it did, the info would have been exhaustively complete/concise. So maybe the card didn't have an entry on that site at all??) So I'm thinking it's possible that this card may never have actually existed -- like they were going to make it, but at the last minute changed it to be Kecleon_("P"_Promo_1) instead, and only an old picture from the official website still remains in the public awareness. (Or not, maybe it's just really rare.) Anyway, there's a few other people I can ask, and a few other places I can look, and at the very least I'm gonna go through my Pokemon card images I've archived off the web over the years and see if I can't find a larger image. --Alamedyang (talk) 21:42, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, currently, The capatain Pikachu and the ___'s Pikachu that you translated above aren't on the site either, and they are current promotions. Are we even sure everything makes it onto there? This Wailmer could be like these Pikachu, they don't have entries, and they are very rare. But, who knows? If we would somehow get the card in real life, then we would know, but, if it never existed, should we still make the page? I know I just said a lot and jumbled it together, it is just this card is very confusing. The site I found the image on had this to describe it:

7/10/01 Yet, another Pokemon Vs promo has been spotted in Japan, and this time it's Hoeruko, the new whale like Pokemon! I wonder if we'll see a Luriri (the last of the three new Pokemon) promo sometime soon? We'll just have to wait and see! .

We may never know. MaverickNate 03:05, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Scans

feel free to update everything and anything. Yours are better, and I will deal with anything concerning the images. I think you deserve to, since they are yours. MaverickNate 02:48, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Small thing

I love that you are adding translations and kanji, but I like to make sure everything is translated the same on here. For instance, we have Tackle translated as Body Blow, and I like everything being the same. If you could do that, it would be helpful. MaverickNate 02:59, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

For things that aren't already attack names for the RPG games, I've been checking on other cards' translations first. Tackle to Body Blow is nice to know, though -- I'll check out all of the attacks now, too. --Alamedyang (talk) 03:00, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. You are now officially, my favorite user! ;) MaverickNate 03:04, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps there should be a list of already established translations...? (Could that be botted? 0_0) Or is that too much effort? --Alamedyang (talk) 03:07, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
