Discontinuation and later plans

When Generation IV was released, a game that plays quite similarly to the Pokémon Stadium series, under the name of Pokémon Battle Revolution, was released. In the most basic sense, the Colosseum series had concluded. However, during the Nintendo Direct on January 9, 2020, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series game Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX was announced for the Nintendo Switch as a remake of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, which sparked hope that The Pokémon Company would finally be open to more remakes outside of the core series.

Trivia

  • These are the only Pokémon games:
    • Released after Pokémon Crystal that are RPG games not to give the player the choice of playing as either a boy or a girl.
    • That are part of the side series to contain similar mechanics to the core series games.
    • That players can catch other Trainers' Pokémon in an RPG game.
