Sudobo (Japanese: ウーたろう Ūtarō), known as Utaro in Chuang Yi's translations, is a Sudowoodo owned by Gold in the Pokémon Adventures manga. As of All About Arceus V, he is level 78.

History

Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

Gold and Sudobo

Sudobo first appeared in Smeargle Smudge, blocking the path of the race that Gold and Whitney are having. Upon reaching him the two mistakenly think he is a tree and Whitney attacks him with Mil Mil, who deals little damage. Gold, who wants to prove he's better than her, tells Exbo to use Ember on Sudowoodo, also doing little. A Rhydon appears, and Whitney chooses to attack it using Mil Mil, and the Rhydon kidnaps her. Before Gold can go after Rhydon as well, he notices Sudowoodo shaking. He tells Polibo to use Water Gun on him again, and he shrinks down to reveal himself as a Pokémon. Sudowoodo had been pretending to be a tree because he was being chased by Rhydon. Gold tells Sudowoodo that he needs to stand up for himself and decides to teach him how to fight. Gold then catches Sudowoodo, and sends him out as close as possible to Rhydon by using his pool cue. Sudowoodo emerges from the Poké Ball and sucker punches Rhydon, defeating it instantly. After all is said and done Gold offers Sudowoodo a place on his team, and when he accepts, he names him Sudobo.

In Tyranitar War, Sudobo was used in Gold's fight against Silver. He first went up against his Sneasel and dealt super effective damage with Low Kick followed up by Dynamic Punch. The attack narrowly misses Sneasel, but smashes up the ground and throws a barrage of rocks around. The pressure put on by Sudobo forced Silver to recall him for Ursaring and attacks with Fury Swipes, while Sudobo counters with Mimic. Silver then quickly recalls Ursaring for Kingdra, who attacks with Water Gun, knocking him out.

In Lugia and Ho-Oh on the Loose (Part 2), Sudobo battles against the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh and Lugia, who are being used by the Masked Man. Sudobo starts by using Mud-Slap to lower their accuracy, though it ends up just irritating them. Gold and Sudobo attempt to run away instead and Ho-Oh clamps its beak down onto Sudobo, hurting him severely. Gold then smiles and has Sudobo counter with Flail, causing major damage due to how exhausted Sudobo is.

In The Last Battle VI, Sudobo is used in Gold's last battle against the Masked Man. Using Aibo's Baton Passed Agility Sudobo quickly gets behind the Masked Man and holds him down. This allows Exbo to strike him with a powerful Ember which melts the Masked Man's ice body.

In Epilogue, Sudobo is seen getting acquainted with Emerald's Sudowoodo.

HeartGold & SoulSilver arc

In Out-Odding Oddish, Sudobo is used in the Pokéathlon alongside Sunbo and Togebo. They start with the Jump Course, and are shown competing in Disc Catch competition. Sudobo and Sunbo easily catch a disc that was thrown to them, and Gold points out that most Pokémon would crowd together to catch a single disc, but since Togebo is small, he can easily move through crowds. Togebo pushes his opponents away and easily catches the disc, which signifies the end of the match. The next round they compete in is the Lamp Jump. While Sudobo and Sunbo easily touch some lights, Togebo rudely pushes his opponents out of the way, which gives Gold enough to points to earn the Jump Medal. The same three later competed in the Speed Course and encounter a powerful Trainer, Jet. In the Hurdle Dash and Pennant Capture competitions, Jet's team easily defeats Sudobo and Sunbo. In the final match, Relay Run, while most Trainers are seen running with their Pokémon, Gold is seen simply sliding on the ground slowly while riding on his skateboard in the wrong direction. An exhausted and in last place Sudobo struggles to move on, so he is switched for Sunbo. Seeing there is not much time left, Gold switches Sunbo out for Togebo. Togebo's fast speed allows him to easily catch up to Jet's Dodrio, but he is kicked away into the gravel by Dodrio's foot. The dirt gets into Togebo's eyes, preventing him from being able to see and run properly. Gold commands Togebo to keep going and gives him directions on where to move, having spent his time memorizing the course. Togebo continues running and eventually manages to make it past Jet's Dodrio, which gives Gold the win.

In All About Arceus VIII, Sudobo is used to fight against Arceus. He attacks with a powerful Rock Tomb, but fails to do any real damage.

Personality and characteristics

In his debut Sudobo was a timid and meek Pokémon. Upon meeting Gold though he became much more confident and began facing his problems head on. He is a powerful Pokémon in both attack and defense, able to take lots of damage and deal a lot back.
