While I am mostly a casual user of Bulbapedia for reference, I am a huge fan of community-generated content, especially fan-made games or improving upon exisiting official canon. You can glean some of my ideas in the sections below. If you are programmer sprite artist, or game developer interested in developing a fan-made game, let's collaborate.

Granted, service to the Bulbapedia server, I will intentionally keep this page simple in terms of presentation.

About Myself

• I am a Bulbapedia user from Florida, USA, aged 24 who has played every gerneration since Gen I. Well, except for Gen V – while I appreciate the plot in BW, that was a poorly conceieved generation overall with a lot of flimsily designed species.
• I am only a fan of the primary canon of Pokémon games.
• I do not support or engage in Poké-shipping.

  • 1: Grass - Thankfully, Generation IV was very generous with this type.
  • 2: Fighting - Poliwrath, Blaziken (and its carbon copy Infernape), Breloom, Gallade, and Lucario as well as the increased availability of TM31 Brick Break (for Electabuzz, Ampharos, Magmar, various normal types, etc.) in Generation III made this type worthwhile additons to my teams. Alas, if only Donphan and Granbull could join their ranks! (see "IF ONLY, IF ONLY").

Modest Proposals and Musings (All Changes Based on Gen VI)

IF ONLY, IF ONLY: Changes to the Main-Canon Pokénon Games and Species

Note that some of these ideas have already been proposed by fellow Bulbapedia user MAGNEDETH.

Changes to Pokémon Species

• Bulbasaur should only be a Grass-type.
• Dedenne is now the baby-stage of Pikachu (Pichu is no more!)
• Nidoran ♂ and ♀ should be classified together as gender differences within the same specie.
• Ninetales should be part Psychic-type or, preferably, part Ghost.
• Golduck should be Water/Psychic.
• Golem (non-Alolan) learns Heat Crash at level 1 instead of Heavy Slam (at level 1).
• Cloyster should only be a Water.
• Munna is now the baby-stage of Drowzee (Musharna is no more!)
• Marowak should be Ground/Fighting
• Kangaskhan should be Dragon/Fighting.
• Onix should swap its base Attack stat (45) for its base Speed stat (70). Steelix should trade 25 points from its base Special Attack stat to boost its base Speed stat (30) to 55.
• Rhyperior (non-Alolan) learns Eruption at level 1 instead of Poison Jab (at level 1).
• Tauros should be Fighting.
• Tangela now evolves into Carnivine, which gains some defensive bulk in lieu of Tangrowth (Tangrowth is no more!)
• Considering Lickitung’s reptilian physiology and the scarcity of Dragon-type Pokémon, Lickitung should be reclassified as a Dragon-type.
• Gyarados should only be a Water. Mega Gyarados becomes a Water/Dragon.
• Dragonite learns Belly Drum instead of Agility.
• Dragonite's ability is now Marvel Scale, rather than Inner Focus. Dragonite's hidden ability is now Cloud Nine, rather than Multiscale.
• Articuno's ability is now Snow Warning, rather than Pressure. Zapdos' ability is now Drizzle, rather than Pressure. Moltres' ability is now Drought, rather than Pressure.
• Sentret and Furret now both learn Detect by level-up in lieu of Sucker Punch.
• Furret is now Ground-type. Mud Slap, Spikes, Dig, Rototiller, Sand Pit, and Play Rough are added to Furret's level-up moveset. Furret learns Shore Up in lieu of Rest.
• Furret swaps its second ability Keen Eye for Sand Rush.
• Noctowl should be smaller, reaching a height no greater than 4'.
• Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff should only be Grass-type Pokémon. All three would have the ability Levitate to make up for the loss of the Flying-type.
• Considering its serpentine physiology (especially when seen as an elaboration on the mythical ‘plumed serpent’ motif) and the scarcity of Dragon-type Pokémon, Dunsparce should be reclassified as a Dragon-type.
• Lugia's ability is now Air Lock, rather than Pressure.
• Considering real-world elephants’ inherent strength and extensive use of their trunks as a powerful extra limb, and Donphan's own robust, heavily padded physique, both Donphan and Phanpy should be reclassified as a Fighting-type.
• Considering Granbull's brute strength, Granbull should also be considered a Fighting-type.
• Granbull now has a choice between the abilities Intimidate or Sheer Force (See Changes to Battle Mechanic section below).
• Ledyba and Ledian should be more oriented towards Attack and should instead have the abilities Swarm or Sap Sipper.
• Trapinch and Vibrava should both be Ground/Bug.
• Gardevoir should be Female-only and Kirlia would have major gender differences.
• Considering that Cacnea and Cacturne are based on desert plants known for their high water-retention ability, Cacnea and Cacturne would have access to the ability Storm Drain as well.
• Sneasel now evolves into Absol, which gains 25 points to its base Speed stat (75 + 25 = 100) in lieu of Weavile (Weavile is no more!)
• Chingling and Chimecho are both Ghost-type.
• Rampardos is now Rock/Fighting. Accelerock, Detect, Counter, Rock Polish, and Close Combat are added to Rampardos's level-up moveset in lieu of Scary Face, Screech, Zen Headbutt. Wild Charge, Flame Charge, Zen Headbutt, and Screech are added to its Egg Move list. Rampardos now learns Double-Edge by level-up in lieu of Endeavor.
• Cranidos and Rampardos gain a second ability in Rock Head to avoid recoil damage from Double-Edge or Head Smash.
• Hippopotas and Hippowdon gain a second ability in Arena Trap.
• Glalie should be Male-only and have the abilities Ice Body or Solid Rock.
• Possibly based on the Egyptian god of funerals and the afterlife, Anubis, Lucario should be Ghost/Fighting.
• Lucario should learn Shadow Claw by level-up in lieu of Metal Claw, Spirit Shackle by level-up in lieu of Dragon Pulse, and Phantom Force by level-up in lieu of Extreme Speed. Lucario now learns Destiny Bond at level 1.
• Darumaka and Darmanitan are now both Fire/Fairy.
• Litleo and Pyroar now have the abilities Moxie or Justified. Pyroar (both versions) would be Fire/Fighting.
• Incineroar learns Sucker Punch instead of Fury Swipes.

Changes to Pokémon Moves

• Vice Grip should be Steel-type and gain a boost from Tough Claws. Additionally, this move has a 30% chance of lowering the target's Defense stat by one stage after each use.
• Dream Eater should be Ghost-type.
• Aura Sphere should be Ghost-type.
• Vacuum Wave should be Flying-type.
• Facade should be Dark-type.
• Heart Stamp should be Fairy-type.
• Poison Powder, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, and Spore should be all be able to afflict Grass-type targets.
• Rock Tomb should be the Rock-type counterpart of Metal Burst.
• Brine is also super-effective against Steel-type Pokémon.
• Scald is also super-effective against Grass- and Ice-type Pokémon.
• Eruption is now a Physical move.
• Dark Pulse should be the Dark-type counterpart of Tri Attack, including secondary effects.
• Now Bulldoze only affects all adjacent foes.

Changes to Geography in Pokémon Games

Kanto

• Cinnabar Island should be larger with a volcano on it and walkable routes around the island as well.

Johto

Hoenn

Sinnoh

• Route 218 should offer a longer path for crossing with HM03 Surf.

Changes to Battle Mechanics

• The ability to learn Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Toxic, or Earthquake via TM should be much more limited.
• Fighting-type is no longer super-effective against Steel-type or Ice-type.
• Rock-type is no longer super-effective against Ice-type.
• Now Grass-type only inflicts normal damage (×1) against Rock-type, ie Grass-type is no longer super-effective against Rock-type.
• Poison-type is no longer super-effective against Fairy-type. In fact, the reverse now holds: Fairy-type is super-effective against Poison-type.
• Poison-type is now super-effective against Water-type as well as Grass-type.
• Steel-type is now super-effective against Grass-type.
• Both Psychic-type and Fire-type are now super-effective against Fairy-type. Meanwhile, Steel-type still resists Fairy-type but is no longer super-effective against Fairy-type.
• Ground-type no longer resists Poison-type and is no longer super-effective against Poison-type either.
• While Ground-type is still immune to Electric-type, Rock-type is now resistant to Electric-type.
• Fairy-type no longer resists Bug-type.
• Now Ice-type and Grass-type in addition to Fire-type and Steel-type are resistant to Fairy-type.
• Rhyhorn, Rhydon, and Rhyperior can no longer learn Surf.
• Zangoose can learn Cut but not Strength.
• STAB is reduced from a ×1.5 multiplier to a ×1.33 multiplier.
• Type-order now matters: whether a type first or second affects resistance (but not STAB). For a given Pokémon, the type listed first reduces damages from a weaker-type by two-thirds (×0.33) while the type listed second reduces damages from a weaker-type by a third (×0.66). An attack that is weak against both of the target's types inflicts 1 HP in damage. (The in-battle text will read "Attack inflicted negligible damage.")
• Sheer Force is now the Fighting-type equivalent of Aerilate, Pixilate, etc: Sheer Force causes all Normal-type moves used by the Pokémon to become Fighting-type and receive a 30% base power boost in addition to all other modifiers, such as STAB.
• The effects of Magma Armor and Flame Body are combined into a single ability, an improved Flame Body.
• The effects of Own Tempo and Inner Focus are combined into a single ability, an improved Own Tempo.
• The in-battle and overworld effects of Poison Point and Poison Touch are combined into a single ability, an improved Poison Point.
• Whereas Pure Power doubles the Attack stat of the Pokémon with this Ability, Huge Power now doubles the Special Attack stat of the Pokémon with that Ability.

• The Grass-type-type is known now as Botan.
• The Dark-type-type is known now as Umbra.
• The Steel-type-type is known now as Metal.
• The Psychic-type-type is known now as Physic, alluding to the ability to manipulate physical forces as well as physical space and time.

• What if Pokémon could have two abilities at a time rather than just one?

Type-order now matters: whether a type first or second affects resistance (but not STAB). For a given Pokémon, the type listed first reduces damages from a weaker-type by two-thirds (×0.33) while the type listed second reduces damages from a weaker-type by a third (×0.66). An attack that is weak against both of the target's types inflicts 1 HP in damage. (The in-battle text will read "Attack inflicted negligible damage.") A complete ineffectiveness against either type will still make the move deal no damage, since 0 multiplied by any number is 0. Also, STAB is reduced from a ×1.5 multiplier to a ×1.33 multiplier.

• In addition to reshuffled or updated Gym Leaders, several changes have happened to the layout and names of cities across the rebooted Sinnoh:
  • The player's hometown is now Oreburgh City where Roark is a childhood friend and newly minted Gym Leader.
  • Jubilife City has been replaced by Hearthome City. In addition to Alder's new gym, this is also where Professor Rowan now maintains his lab.
  • Veilstone City has been replaced by Virbank City, complete with the gasoline processing facilities seen in B2W2 replacing the Team Galactic HQ.
  • The former location of Hearthome City is now occupied by Village Bridge, which has also been renamed Canalave City. This city has no Gym but serves as a rest stop for trainers. However, the Pokémon Fan Club and the Poffin House are located here. The Super Contest arena has also been constructed on along the river bank. An entrace to Amity Square is located in the north-eastern corner of town.
  • Solaceon Town is no more, its wilderness incorporated into Route 209, but the Pokémon Day Care and Solaceon Ruins remain intact.
  • Sunyshore City has been renamed as Nimbasa City and now also features a Big Stadium and Small Court.
  • Route 222 is now also known by the locals as Belo Horizonte Beach.
  • After winning the Beacon Badge from Elesa in your fourth Gym Battle, players gain access to HM Surf, opening up travel to Pastoria City or Castelia City in the far southwest corner of Sinnoh (southwest of what was once Twinleaf Town). As such, either Gardenia or Byron can be challenged next.
  • To reach Pastoria City through Route 213, players must now use HM Surf to travel along mangroves at the southwestern edge of the route.

• Furthermore, given the new location of Hearthome City:
  • Lake Verity is now located to the immediate west of Hearthome City.
  • Twist Mountain is now located to the immediate south of Hearthome City.

• Also:
  • Chargestone Cave is now a north-south path in Mt. Coronet leading far south to the isolated Giant Chasm where the mysterious meteorites are now located.
  • Marvelous Bridge now connects Eterna City to Mt. Coronet along the west side of Sinnoh Route 211.
  • Floaroma Town is no more. Instead, Valley Windworks takes its place, with a larger field of wind turbine towers taking up the remaining space.
  • Flint and Roxie are members of the same punk rock band. That goes for Volkner as well, who while no longer a Gym Leader, still makes a cameo appearance.

Dust Devil is a damage-dealing Ground-type move. It inflicts damage as a special move if the user's Special Attack base stat is greater; otherwise, it inflicts damage as a physical move (if the user's Attack base stat is greater). Dust Devil inflicts damage and has no secondary effects.

On Smogon's Movedex: Generation IX

Sand Pit prevents all grounded foes from fleeing (including Teleport) or switching out as long as the user remains in battle. Using Baton Pass, U-turn, Volt Switch, or Parting Shot will fail upon use but Teleport may still be used. Holding a Smoke Ball or Shed Shell allows the Pokémon to flee or Teleport, but not switch. Ghost-type and Flying-type Pokémon as well as Pokémon with the abilities Levitate or Run Away are unaffected.

If a wild Pokémon uses Sand Pit and the player's Pokémon faints, the move no longer bind the player to battle should the player attempt to flee instead of sending out another Pokémon.

Sand Pit does not affect allies.
