Tyson (Japanese: タツミ Tatsumi) is a high-ranking officer of Team Rocket.

Personality

Tyson is somewhat coarse, but not overly rude. A reserved opportunist, he grabbed the three most useless agents he could find—Jessie, James, and Meowth—and tricked them into a very dangerous job by giving them free food. He also tends to make bad jokes occasionally.

Although Tyson is not as evil as some other villains seen in the anime, he is not above doing whatever is necessary to achieve his goals. Like most members of Team Rocket, Tyson does not care about the repercussions of his actions on Pokémon or even other people. He has a very commanding presence, which could explain his success as a Team Rocket member.

History

Tyson debuted in Talkin' 'Bout an Evolution. He led the acquisition team for Professor Sebastian's evolution inducing experiment, otherwise known as Project R. This experiment led to the forced evolution of a Magikarp into a Red Gyarados, thus causing the events of Talkin' 'Bout an Evolution and Rage of Innocence. When Ash, Misty, and Brock arrived at the Lake of Rage, Tyson attacked them due to their sighting of the Gyarados. He was determined to keep them from leaving the lake with knowledge of Team Rocket's plans, but his assault was thwarted by Lance and his Dragonite.

Despite Lance's intrusion, Tyson carried on with his plans and caught the Gyarados in the Lake of Rage with the help of Jessie, James, and Meowth, whom he had ordered to lure the Gyarados from the lake's depths. Unfortunately for Tyson, Ash and friends had returned to assist the Gyarados. Despite the best efforts of Totodile and Poliwhirl to stop Team Rocket's abduction of the strange Pokémon, they did not succeed. Tyson then captured and jailed the three of them in Team Rocket's base, leaving Jessie, James, and Meowth to guard them.

In Rage of Innocence, the Gyarados got away from Team Rocket and Tyson was challenged by Lance while an escaped Ash, Misty, and Brock fled to calm the rampaging Pokémon. Although Tyson's two Fearow were both attacking Dragonite, Lance emerged victorious and put a stop to Tyson's plans. Following his defeat, Tyson and several other Team Rocket grunts were arrested.
