Trivia

  • Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that are not Ghost/Dark-type. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type.
    • Also, they are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that have evolutionary relatives.
  • Despite learning Thunder Wave and Charge Beam by level, Shibishirasu is incompatible with both TMs that teach the moves.
    • It is also the only Generation V Pokémon incapable of learning TMs.

Origin

Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, lampreys, jawless fish and possibly leeches. Their electric type may be an allusion to bioluminescence. Oddly enough, however, none of them are able to learn any water-type attacks, with the sole exception of Rain Dance.

Name origin

Its name is likely a combination of 痺れ shibire, numbness, and シラス shirasu, young of sardines.
