Tropius is a large {{wp|sauropod}}-like Pokémon with a brown body wrapped in green leaves on its chest and head. It possesses large, broad green leaves on its back, which it uses for flight and for sugar production via photosynthesis. Despite being very big and bulky, it is surprisingly maneuverable in the air. It has a long neck with a thin black line around it. It uses its neck for reaching treetops to gorge on its most favored fruit. Since it ate only this kind of fruit continuously, the fruit began to grow around its neck. These yellow, banana-like fruits can be picked and consumed by other Pokémon or humans, and grow twice a year because of the rapid production of sugar in Tropius's leaves. Its feet have toenails the same color as its fruit.

===Origin===
===Origin===
Tropius resembles a generic {{wp|sauropoda|sauropod}} (a long-necked, herbivorous dinosaur) combined with a {{wp|banana}} plant.
Tropius resembles a generic {{wp|sauropoda|sauropod}}, a clade of long-necked, herbivorous {{wp|dinosaur}}s, combined with a {{wp|banana}} plant. Its tropical characteristics and sauropod-like body may also be inspired by the {{wp|Mokele-Mbembe}}, a cryptid creature said to live in the Congo River Basin, most often described as a sauropod.

====Name origin====
====Name origin====
Tropius is a combination of ''tropical'' and ''saurus'' (Greek for ''lizard''). It may also be a pun of ''tropism'': {{wp|phototropism}} is when plants move to catch more sunlight, and if a plant is not planted upright, the roots will use {{wp|gravitropism}} to grow towards gravity and find water.
Tropius may be a combination of ''tropical'' and ''-saurus'' (common suffix in names of dinosaurs and extinct reptiles derived from the Ancient Greek word for lizard). It may also involve ''{{wp|tropism}}'' (orientation of plants in response to a particular environmental stimulus).

Tropius (Japanese: トロピウス Tropius) is a dual-type Grass/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology

Tropius in ancient times

Tropius is a large, sauropod-like Pokémon with a brown body wrapped in green leaves on its chest and head.

In warm areas, there are ranches that raise Tropius. In Alola, its fruit is especially sweet compared to those of other regions. It lives in tropical jungles. In the TCG, Tropius was shown existing before the time Fossil Pokémon went extinct.

Major appearances

Tropius made its main series debut in From Brags to Riches, under the ownership of Dominick. He used the Fruit Pokémon and a Swalot in his Double Battle against Ash's Corphish and Torkoal at the Ever Grande Conference. Tropius and Torkoal knocked each other out when their Solar Beam and Overheat attacks connected and created an explosion.

In Odd Pokémon Out, a Tropius living on Camomile Island challenged Ash's Grovyle for the love of Nurse Joy's Meganium.

Minor appearances

Tropius debuted in Jirachi: Wish Maker as one of the residents of Forina, Jirachi's home. Later, it was among those fleeing from Meta Groudon that was trying to snatch all the Pokémon.

A Tropius appeared in the opening sequence of Destiny Deoxys.

A Trainer's Tropius appeared in a fantasy in Like a Meowth to a Flame.

In Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, a Tropius was part of the feuding armies that were eventually placated by Sir Aaron in the past. Another belonged to a Trainer that battled Kidd Summers's Weavile during the Rota tournament.

A Coordinator's Tropius appeared in May, We Harley Drew'd Ya!.

In The Rise of Darkrai, Darkrai hit a Tropius with Dark Void.

A Tropius appeared in the opening sequence of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

In Battle Royal 151!, a Trainer's Tropius competed in the Battle Royal preliminary round of the Manalo Conference but ended up losing.

In All Out, All of the Time!, Jessie pulled a Tropius from the Rocket Prize Master.

A Tropius appeared in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One).

Trivia

  • Tropius shares its height (6'7"/2.0 m), weight (220.5 lbs./100.0 kg) and Egg Groups (Monster and Grass) with another Grass-type Pokémon, Venusaur.
  • Tropius was the first Pokémon to be distributed in a Cherish Ball, with the Shokotan Tropius distribution.
  • Tropius shares its category with the Bounsweet evolutionary family. They are all known as the Fruit Pokémon.
  • Of all the Pokémon available in Generation IV, Tropius is the only one that is exclusive to Platinum.

Origin

Tropius resembles a generic sauropod, a clade of long-necked, herbivorous dinosaurs, combined with a banana plant. Its tropical characteristics and sauropod-like body may also be inspired by the Mokele-Mbembe, a cryptid creature said to live in the Congo River Basin, most often described as a sauropod.

Name origin

Tropius may be a combination of tropical and -saurus (common suffix in names of dinosaurs and extinct reptiles derived from the Ancient Greek word for lizard). It may also involve tropism (orientation of plants in response to a particular environmental stimulus).
