Effect

In battle

Trace copies the Ability of the current opponent. Trace is able to copy Wonder Guard, but not Multitype, Illusion, or Stance Change. If both the Pokémon and the opponent have Trace, it will do nothing. If used in a Double Battle, Trace will randomly copy either opponent's Ability.

If the target of Trace has an untraceable Ability, then Trace will activate when next exposed to a Pokémon that has a traceable Ability.

Outside of battle

Trace has no effect outside of battle.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon

Trace is only activated when the Pokémon is attacked, and one Ability chosen at random is copied.
