Torterra (Japanese: ドダイトス Dodaitose) is a Grass/Ground-type Pokémon.

Torterra comes with the ability Overgrow, which increases the power of Grass-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.

Torterra evolves from Grotle starting at Level 32. It is the final evolution of Turtwig.

Physiology

The two bushes on Torterra's back have turned into a single, small tree. What appears to be three miniature mountains have also grown on its back.

Trivia

Origin

Torterra has aspects of a snapping turtle and an ankylosaurus, a species of armored dinosaur. It may also be based upon the world turtles in various mythologies that carry worlds upon their backs.

Name origin

  • Its name comes from tortoise and terra.
  • Its Japanese name may come from "Do", Japanese for earth, "Dai" meaning "great", and "tortoise".
