History of the Pokémon world (anime)

A map of the Hoenn, Johto, Kanto, and Sinnoh regions in the anime; locations of movies are deliberately marked, and labeled Pokémon are positioned in relation to the locations of certain episodes.

This is a chronological list of significant events in the anime and the episodes which they occurred in, or, for events which happened outside the series, where they happened in relation to the episodes.

2,000 years prior	A war breaks out. Soldiers leave Kanto by ship. (EP020) A woman dies while waiting for her lover to return at Maiden's Peak, creating a haunted monument. (EP020) Sir Aaron tries to stop a war. He seals his Lucario in a staff. (M08)
1,000 years prior	A war breaks out in the form of a clash between the Hero of Truth and Hero of Ideals, pitting Reshiram and Zekrom against each other and resulting in the devastation of the Kingdom of the Vale. (M14) Using power borrowed from Victini, the King of the People of the Vale moves his castle from the Kingdom of the Vale to the site where Eindoak Town will later be founded, then dies, trapping Victini in the area. 500 years prior	The Artificial Pokémon, Magearna, is created by Nikola. (M19)
400 years prior	Azalea Town experiences a devastating drought that ends when a Slowpoke's yawn brings rain, prompting the town's people to begin a time-honored tradition of respect for all Slowpoke. (EP142)
300 years prior	The Orange League takes place for the first time. (EP095) The captain wins the Orange League. The captain's ship gets caught in a storm and sinks.
200 years prior	Early versions of Poké Balls are used. (EP232) Lokoko's master, who looks identical to Brock, left his home in Johto to go on a journey. He never returns. (EP232)
100 years prior to XY	Hoopa Unbound causes a great clash of Pokémon that nearly destroys Dahara City. (M18)
50 years prior	Samuel Oak is born. (M04)
40 years prior	Samuel Oak goes on his Pokémon journey. (M04)
30 years prior	Kaiser reports the existence of a Dratini in the Safari Zone. Thousands of people came to get the rare Pokémon, which literally destroys the Safari Zone in the process. Since then, they only allow Safari Ball there. (EP035)
29 years prior	Delia is born.
20 years prior	Grings Kodai touches the Time Ripple, laying all of Crown City's plant life to waste. Kodai starts to have visions of the future, and Celebi stops visiting Crown City. (M13)
???	Samuel Oak becomes a Professor. Delia and Spencer study as students of Professor Oak. (M03) Jessie is born. James is born. James is arranged to marry Jessebelle. (EP048) James runs away from home. (EP048) Jessie's mother, Miyamoto, is sent on a mission to catch Mew. She vanishes without a trace. (The Birth of Mewtwo) James catches a Carnivine. ???	Meowth meets Meowzie. (EP070) Meowth learns to talk and walk on two legs. (EP070) Meowth is rejected by Meowzie and joins Team Rocket. (EP070) Jessie and James join Team Rocket. (SS012) Jessie receives an Ekans as a chūgen present (birthday present in the dub). (EP017) James receives a Koffing as an oseibo present (Christmas present in the dub). (EP017) Brock catches a Geodude. Flint leaves Pewter City to train, leaving the Pewter Gym in the hands of his oldest son, Brock. (EP005) Lola leaves Pewter City out of boredom, leaving her children in the hands of her oldest son, Brock. (EP005) In the dub of EP005, Flint says Lola died at this point, rather than leaving. 1 year prior to DP	Paul turns 10 and begins his Pokémon journey. He chooses Turtwig as his starter. (DP040)
Less than 1 year prior	Ash and Gary find an old Poké Ball while fishing, breaking it in half after arguing who will get it. (EP269)
Less than 1 year prior to DP	Paul enters the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn Leagues. Paul catches his Elekid, Murkrow, Weavile, Ninjask and Chimchar. Zoey competes in three Contests and wins one of them.
Less than 1 year prior to XY	Clemont creates Clembot which then Clemont answered his voice code incorrectly which lead to him and Bonnie fleeing from the Gym. (XY009) Clemont catches a Bunnelby. (XY088) Shauna, Trevor, and Tierno start their Pokémon journeys with Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, respectively. (XY039)
Less than 1 year prior to SM	Lana rescues a Popplio from Team Skull Grunts, and it joins her party. (SM005)

Kanto

Pokémon, I Choose You!	Ash and Gary begin their Pokémon journeys. Gary starts his journey with a Squirtle.* Ash starts his journey with a disobedient Pikachu, a Pokédex, and six Poké Balls. Ash tries and fails to catch a Pidgey. Ash meets Misty for the first time. Ash steals Misty's bike, which is destroyed when Pikachu defeats a flock of angry Spearow. Ash and Pikachu become friends. Ash sees a mysterious Pokémon. Ash reaches Viridian City.
Pokémon Emergency!	Ash visits a Pokémon Center and meets a Nurse Joy and an Officer Jenny for the first time. Misty introduces herself to Ash and declares that she will follow him until he repays the damages to her bike. Ash and Misty meet Jessie and James, two members of the villainous Team Rocket, along with their partner, a talking Meowth. Misty is revealed to own a Goldeen. Team Rocket also decides to follow Ash and steal his Pikachu. Ash prepares to catch a Caterpie.
Ash Catches a Pokémon!	Ash catches a Caterpie, making it his first caught Pokémon. Ash also catches a Pidgeotto. Team Rocket reveals to Ash their intention to steal his Pikachu. Meowth is revealed to know Fury Swipes. Ash has his first, although unofficial, battle, and wins. James's Koffing is revealed to know Sludge. Jessie's Ekans is revealed to know Dig. Ash's Caterpie evolves into Metapod.
Challenge of the Samurai	Ash tries and fails to capture a Weedle. Ash has his first fair battle, with no official winner. Ash's Pidgeotto is revealed to know Sand-Attack. Ash's Metapod is revealed to have learned Harden. Meowth is revealed to know Scratch. Ash's Metapod evolves into Butterfree and learns Sleep Powder.
Showdown in Pewter City	Ash and Misty reach Pewter City and meet Brock, the Pewter Gym Leader. Ash has his first Gym battle at the Pewter Gym. Ash forfeits his battle against Brock, suffering his first loss. Ash's Pikachu learns Thunderbolt. Ash has a rematch with Brock, but eventually forfeits again. Brock follows Ash and gives him his first Badge, the Boulder Badge. Brock joins Ash and Misty.
Clefairy and the Moon Stone	Brock catches a Zubat. Misty is revealed to own a Staryu. Ash's Butterfree and Pidgeotto are revealed to know Whirlwind. Jessie's Ekans is revealed to know Bite. James's Koffing is revealed to know Tackle. Brock's Onix is revealed to know Dig. Brock encounters Team Rocket for the first time.
Water Flowers of Cerulean City	Ash reaches Cerulean City and meets Daisy, Violet, and Lily, the Cerulean Gym Leaders, for the first time. Ash finds out that Gary and the other two Pallet Town Trainers have already defeated the Cerulean Gym. Ash learns that Misty is also one of Cerulean City's Gym Leaders and that Daisy, Violet, and Lily are her sisters. Ash and Misty battle each other for the first time. Misty's Staryu is revealed to know Tackle. Misty is revealed to own a Starmie. Ash's Butterfree is revealed to know Stun Spore. Ash's Pidgeotto is revealed to know Wing Attack. Ash and Misty's Gym battle ends in a no-contest, due to the interruption by Team Rocket. Ash gets the Cascade Badge from Misty's sisters for protecting the Gym from Team Rocket.
The Path to the Pokémon League	Ash learns that there is a Gym in Vermilion City. Meowth is revealed to know Bite. Jessie's Ekans is revealed to know Wrap.
The School of Hard Knocks	Jessie and James are revealed to have been flunked out of the Pokémon Tech in the past. Misty's Starmie is revealed to know Water Gun.
Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village	Misty tries and fails to catch an Oddish. Ash catches a Bulbasaur.
Charmander the Stray Pokémon	Ash catches a Charmander.
Here Comes the Squirtle Squad	The lead Squirtle from the Squirtle Squad chooses to join Ash on his journey.
Mystery at the Lighthouse	Ash catches a Krabby. Ash learns that a Trainer can only have six Pokémon on hand at once, and that his extras are automatically sent to reside at Professor Oak's Laboratory. Gary is revealed to have caught a giant Krabby and own a total of 45 Pokémon. Ash and his friends meet Bill.
Electric Shock Showdown	Ash and his friends arrive at Vermilion City and meet the local Gym Leader, Lt. Surge. Ash has a Gym battle with Lt. Surge, but is defeated. Ash receives a Thunder Stone from Nurse Joy. Ash's Pikachu refuses to evolve into Raichu. Ash's Pikachu learns Agility and Quick Attack. Ash challenges Lt. Surge to a rematch and wins, earning a Thunder Badge.
Battle Aboard the St. Anne	Ash and his friends set off on a cruise aboard the St. Anne luxury liner. Ash trades his Butterfree for a Gentleman's Raticate, but later trades back. James buys a Magikarp from the Magikarp salesman. The St. Anne sinks with Ash, Misty, Brock, and Team Rocket on board.
Pokémon Shipwreck	Jessie's Ekans is revealed to know Acid. James's Magikarp is revealed to know Splash. Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket escape from the sunken St. Anne. James's Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, learns Dragon Rage, and leaves him.
Island of the Giant Pokémon	Jessie and James reveal that Ekans and Koffing were given to them as chūgen (the Ghost Festival) and oseibo (Year-End gift giving) presents, respectively.
Beauty and the Beach	Misty and Brock meet Professor Oak in person and also Delia for the first time. Misty also meets Gary for the first time.
Tentacool and Tentacruel	Misty catches a Horsea.
The Ghost of Maiden's Peak	James's Koffing is revealed to know Poison Gas.
Bye-Bye Butterfree	Ash releases his Butterfree so it can breed with its mate.
Abra and the Psychic Pokémon	Ash and his friends reach Saffron City and meet Sabrina, the Psychic-type Gym Leader. Sabrina's Abra evolves into Kadabra. Ash's Pikachu is revealed to know Thunder. Ash battles Sabrina but loses by forfeit. Ash heads to Lavender Town to catch a Ghost Pokémon so he could be stronger against Sabrina's Kadabra.
The Tower of Terror	Ash and his friends arrive at Lavender Town. Ash's Charmander is revealed to know Leer. Ash befriends a Haunter, who agrees to follow him back to Saffron City.
Haunter Versus Kadabra	Ash returns to Saffron City to battle Sabrina again. Haunter disappears before the rematch, forcing Ash to forfeit again. Ash finds Haunter, but it disappears again when Ash tries to challenge Sabrina once more. Pikachu battles Sabrina's Kadabra to protect Ash. Ash earns the Marsh Badge due to Haunter making Sabrina and Kadabra laugh, thus making the latter unable to battle. Haunter leaves Ash to stay with Sabrina. Ash learns that the next Gym is located in Celadon City and decides to head there.
Primeape Goes Bananas	Gary is revealed to have won five Badges. Ash tries and fails to catch a Mankey. The Mankey that Ash tried to catch evolves into a Primeape. Ash's Bulbasaur is revealed to know Razor Leaf. Ash's Charmander learns Rage. Ash catches the newly evolved Primeape. Ash and his friends reach Celadon City.
Pokémon Scent-sation	Ash and his friends meet Erika, the Celadon City Gym Leader. Ash challenges Erika to a Gym battle, but it gets disrupted by a Team Rocket-caused fire. Ash's Charmander is revealed to know Skull Bash. Ash earns the Rainbow Badge from Erika as a thanks for saving her Gloom from the fire.
Hypno's Naptime	Misty accidentally catches a Psyduck.
Pokémon Fashion Flash	Ash and his friends meet Suzie, a Pokémon Breeder. Brock's Geodude is revealed to know Seismic Toss. Brock receives a Vulpix from Suzie.
The Punchy Pokémon	Ash's Primeape begins to obey him. Primeape is revealed to know Scratch, Mega Kick, and Seismic Toss. Ash wins the P1 Grand Prix with Primeape. Ash leaves his Primeape with Anthony for training.
Sparks Fly for Magnemite	Ash catches a Muk, but sends it to Professor Oak's Laboratory due to its nasty smell.
Dig Those Diglett	Ash learns that the next Gym is the Fuchsia Gym. Jessie's Ekans evolves into Arbok. James's Koffing evolves into Weezing. Misty and Brock meet Gary for the first time (dub only).
The Ninja Poké-Showdown	Ash and his friends arrive at the Fuchsia Gym and meet the Gym Leader Koga, and his sister, Aya. Ash challenges Koga to a Gym battle, but the battle is interrupted by Team Rocket. Misty's Psyduck battles for the first time and is revealed to know Tail Whip, Scratch, Disable, and Confusion. Ash's Bulbasaur is revealed to know Leech Seed. Ash's Charmander is revealed to know Ember and Fire Spin. Ash continues his battle with Koga and wins, earning a Soul Badge.
The Flame Pokémon-athon	Jessie's Arbok is revealed to know Poison Sting and Glare.
The Kangaskhan Kid	Jessie tries and fails to catch a Kangaskhan. Ash's Squirtle is revealed to know Skull Bash.
EP035	Ash and his friends enter the Safari Zone and receive thirty Safari Balls to be used within the Zone. Ash uses his Safari Balls to catch thirty Tauros, all of which he subsequently sends to Professor Oak's Laboratory. Ash also tries to catch a Rhyhorn, but the Safari Ball hits a bypassing Tauros, catching it instead.
The Bridge Bike Gang	Jessie and James are revealed to have been members of a bicycle gang in the past. Misty's Psyduck is revealed to be able to use Confusion and Disable only when its headache is severe enough.
Ditto's Mysterious Mansion	Ash and his friends meet Duplica.
EP038	Jessie takes a prototype Porygon from Dr. Akihabara, but later accidentally leaves it.
Pikachu's Good-Bye	Ash attempts to release Pikachu, but Pikachu returns to him.
Holiday Hi-Jynx	Ash attempts to capture a Jynx, but fails since she belongs to another Trainer.
The Battling Eevee Brothers	Misty's Psyduck is revealed to know Water Gun.
Wake Up Snorlax!	Ash fails to catch a Snorlax.
The March of the Exeggutor Squad	Ash's Charmander evolves into a Charmeleon.
The Problem with Paras	Ash's Charmeleon starts disobeying him.
The Song of Jigglypuff	Misty tries to capture a Jigglypuff, but decides against it when she found out it couldn't Sing. Misty's Staryu is revealed to know Double-Edge. The Jigglypuff that Ash and his friends help out in this episode begins to follow them around.
Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon	Ash and his friends encounter Gary again. Ash's Charmeleon evolves into Charizard, but remains disobedient. Ash finds a Pokémon Egg, and Brock decides to be in charge of taking care of it.
Holy Matrimony!	James's childhood is revealed: James is revealed to come from a rich family. James is revealed to be engaged to a girl named Jessebelle. James is revealed to own a Growlithe, nicknamed Growlie.
Who Gets to Keep Togepi?	Ash gets his Pokédex upgraded. The Egg Ash found a while back hatches into a Togepi. Ash, Misty, Brock, and Meowth decide to have a tournament to see who will keep Togepi. Ash wins the tournament, but Togepi chooses to go with Misty instead. Brock's Geodude is revealed to know Tackle. Brock's Onix is revealed to know Rock Throw.
Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden	Ash's Bulbasaur begins to evolve, but decides not to. Ash's Bulbasaur learns Solar Beam.
Princess Versus Princess	Jessie catches a Lickitung. Misty and Jessie enter the Queen of the Princess Festival contest, with Misty being the winner.
The Purr-fect Hero	Misty's Horsea is revealed to know Bubble.
Pokémon Paparazzi	Ash and friends meet Todd Snap, who joins the group.
The Breeding Center Secret	Ash and his friends encounter Butch and Cassidy, two other members of Team Rocket, for the first time. James is revealed to have caught a Weepinbell that has now evolved into a Victreebel. Todd Snap leaves the group.
Riddle Me This	Ash and his friends reach Cinnabar Island. Ash and his friends meet Blaine, the Cinnabar Gym Leader. Ash begins his Gym battle with Blaine.
Volcanic Panic	Ash forfeits his first Gym battle with Blaine. Ash defeats Blaine in a rematch and earns the Volcano Badge. Ash's Charizard is revealed to know Submission and Seismic Toss. Ash learns that there is a Gym in Viridian City, and decides to head back there.
The Misty Mermaid	Ash and his friends visit Cerulean City again. Misty's Horsea is revealed to know Smokescreen. Ash's Squirtle is revealed to know Tackle. Misty's sisters' Seel evolves into Dewgong. Misty leaves her Horsea and Starmie at the Cerulean Gym.
Clefairy Tales	Jigglypuff is revealed to know Pound.
The Battle of the Badge	Ash and his friends return to Viridian City and encounter Gary again. Gary is revealed to have won ten Badges and obtained a Nidoking and an Arcanine. Gary challenges the Viridian Gym Leader and loses to a mysterious Pokémon. Jessie, James, and Meowth are temporarily appointed as the Gym Leaders of the Viridian Gym. Ash earns his eighth and final Badge, the Earth Badge, after defeating Team Rocket. Ash's Pidgeotto is revealed to know Double-Edge. The Viridian Gym collapses. Ash and his friends head back to Pallet Town.
It's Mr. Mime Time	Ash and his friends return to Pallet Town. Misty and Brock meet Delia for the first time (dub only). Delia gets a Mr. Mime.
Showdown at the Po-ké Corral	Mewtwo leaves Giovanni and destroys his headquarters. Professor Oak reveals that the two other Trainers who left Pallet Town with Ash and Gary did not succeed as Trainers. Ash, his friends, and Gary learn that the Pokémon League will be held at Indigo Plateau in two months. Dub viewers learn that Ash has captured 30 Tauros at some point in his travels. Gary is revealed to have obtained a Doduo and own more than 200 Pokémon from up to 60 different species. Gary challenges Ash to a battle, but they are interrupted by the appearance of Team Rocket before they can begin. Professor Oak encounters Team Rocket for the first time.
The Evolution Solution	James's Weezing is revealed to know Haze*. Jessie catches a Shellder, but it attaches itself to a Slowpoke and catalyzes its evolution into a Slowbro and thus leaves her.
Make Room for Gloom	Jessie's Arbok is revealed to know Toxic.
Go West Young Meowth	Meowth recalls how he learned to speak human language and walk upright on his hind legs. Meowth reveals why he joined Team Rocket.
To Master the Onixpected	Ash and his friends meet Bruno, a member of the Kanto Elite Four. Bruno catches a giant Onix.
The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis	Brock's Vulpix is revealed to know Quick Attack.*
Bad to the Bone	Jessie's Arbok is revealed to know Double-Edge. Ash and his friends set off for Indigo Plateau, the venue for the Indigo Plateau Conference.
All Fired Up	Ash and Gary arrive at the Pokémon League. Ash, Misty, and Brock help carry the flame of Moltres to the stadium. Ash sees the legendary bird, Moltres.
Round One - Begin!	Ash uses his Krabby in battle for the first time. Ash's Krabby is revealed to know Harden, Vice Grip, Leer, and Stomp. Ash's Krabby evolves into Kingler. Ash's Kingler is revealed to know Bubble, Water Gun, and Crabhammer. Ash's Kingler learns Hyper Beam. Ash wins his first round match of the Indigo Plateau Conference using only his Kingler. Gary also wins his first round match.
Fire and Ice	Ash's Squirtle is revealed to know Withdraw. Ash wins his second and third matches in the Indigo Plateau Conference.
The Fourth Round Rumble	Gary loses his fourth round battle, placing him in the Top 32 in the Indigo Plateau Conference. Gary heads back to Pallet Town. Ash uses his Muk in battle for the first time. Ash's Muk is revealed to know Body Slam. Ash wins his fourth and final preliminary round match in the Pokémon League and advances to the fifth round, securing him a place in the Indigo Stadium.
A Friend In Deed	Ash and his friends meet Ritchie. Ash learns he will be battling Ritchie in the fifth round.
Friend and Foe Alike	Ash's Pikachu is revealed to know Double-Edge. Ash battles Ritchie in the fifth round at the Indigo Stadium and loses, ending his session in the Pokémon League and finishing in the Top 16.
Friends to the End	Ritchie is revealed to own either a Spearow or a Tentacool. Ritchie loses the sixth round match and is placed Top 8 in the Pokémon League. Ritchie leaves the group. The Indigo Plateau Conference ends.

Orange Islands

Pallet Party Panic	Ash is given an errand by Professor Oak to travel to the Orange Archipelago and retrieve a mysterious Poké Ball from Professor Ivy. The Spearow from the first episode returns as a Fearow, which Ash unsuccessfully attempts to capture. Ash's Pidgeotto evolves into a Pidgeot. Ash releases his Pidgeot to protect other Pidgey and Pidgeotto from the Spearow and Fearow flock.
A Scare in the Air	Ash and his friends reach Valencia Island.
Poké Ball Peril	Ash meets Professor Ivy. Ash obtains the GS Ball. Brock decides to be Professor Ivy's assistant and leaves the group.

Harley and Team Rocket form an alliance in order to ensure May loses her next Pokémon Contest. Harley loans his Cacturne and Banette to Jessie. May and Jessie enter the Mulberry Contest and advance to the Battle Stage.
Going for Choke!	May wins the Mulberry Contest, earning her fifth Kanto Ribbon and securing her a place in the Kanto Grand Festival. The group learns that the Kanto Grand Festival will be held at Indigo Plateau. Harley takes Cacturne and Banette back from Jessie. Drew is revealed to have earned four more Ribbons, thus bringing his total to five and qualifying him for the Grand Festival.
The Ole' Berate and Switch!	May and Max meet Butch and Cassidy for the first time. Team Rocket break up, and Jessie and James temporarily join with Butch and Cassidy, respectively.
Grating Spaces!	Ash and his friends arrive at Pewter City. May and Max meet Brock's family while Ash meets Brock's mother, Lola, for the first time. Brock's Onix is revealed to have evolved into Steelix and learned Iron Tail and Dragon Breath. Brock's Geodude is revealed to have learned Sandstorm and Mega Punch. Jessie and James receive a Charizard and an Aggron, respectively, from the Team Rocket HQ. Battling the Enemy Within	Ash and his friends arrive at the Battle Pyramid and meet Pyramid King Brandon, the seventh and final Frontier Brain. Ash is possessed by the evil spirit of the King of the Pokélantis Empire, which comes from the stone sphere sealed in the Ancient Ruins, and Brandon agrees to battle the King in order to save Ash. Ash's Sceptile fights Brandon's Regirock in an unofficial battle and loses. Brandon promises Ash an official battle, but it will not be for some time because he has business elsewhere. Ash sees Ho-Oh for the third time, while May, Max, Brock, and Scott see Ho-Oh for the first time.

Beautifly is revealed to have learned Psychic. Drew is revealed to own a Butterfree. May has a practice Contest Battle against Drew and loses. Drew and Harley announce that they, along with Solidad, are heading to Johto to participate in Pokémon Contests there.
Pinch Healing!	Ash is revealed to have added Aipom back to his team and sent Torkoal back to Professor Oak's Laboratory.
Gathering The Gang of Four!	Ash's Bulbasaur is sent over by Tracey from Professor Oak's Laboratory. Ash's Squirtle returns from the Squirtle Squad and is revealed to have learned Rapid Spin. Ash's Charizard returns from the Charicific Valley and is revealed to have learned Steel Wing. Ash meets Brandon again, and is allowed to have a rematch with him. Pace - The Final Frontier!	Ash continues his rematch against Brandon and wins, earning the Brave Symbol and entering the Battle Frontier Hall of Fame. Home is Where the Start Is!	Ash and May tie in the final round of the unofficial Terracotta Contest and decide to split the Terracotta Medal in half. May announces her decision to go to the Johto region alone. May and Max return to Petalburg City, while Brock returns to Pewter City. Ash encounters Gary, who is revealed to have obtained an Electivire. Ash returns to Pallet Town and challenges Gary to a battle, but loses. Gary returns to Sinnoh to continue his research. Dawn runs into Ash's Pikachu and attempts to catch him, but fails since he has a Trainer already. Ash's Pikachu accidentally destroys Dawn's bicycle. A Full Course Tag Battle!	May arrives at Lake Valor for the Wallace Cup. Dawn and May meet for the first time. May's Eevee is revealed to have evolved into a Glaceon while in Snowpoint City, and to have learned Ice Beam and Iron Tail. It is revealed in a flashback that Drew's Roselia has evolved into a Roserade. May is revealed to have won three Johto Ribbons.
Staging A Heroes' Welcome!	Ash, Dawn, May, Jessilina, and Zoey enter the Wallace Cup. May and Zoey meet for the first time. May's Squirtle is revealed to have evolved into a Wartortle during her travels in Johto and learned Aqua Tail. Zoey is revealed to have obtained a Finneon. Ash, Dawn, May, and Zoey make it to the Contest Battles while Jessilina loses in the Performance Stage.

Cream of the Croagunk Crop!	Ash and his friends arrive in Pastoria City and meet its Gym Leader, Crasher Wake. James's Carnivine is revealed to have been caught at the Great Marsh. Brock enters the Pastoria Croagunk Festival competition and loses.

Ash's Gliscor is revealed to have learned Screech and learns Fire Fang. Ash's Grotle begins to utilize the lessons that were taught to it by Paul's Torterra. Dawn's Piloswine evolves into Mamoswine, but remains disobedient. Ash learns that the Canalave Gym Leader has returned.
Ancient Family Matters!	Ash and his friends meet Byron, the Canalave City Gym Leader. Ash and his friends also meet Roark again, and find out that he is Byron's son.

Steeling Peace of Mind!	Ash decides to head for Snowpoint City for his next Gym battle. Ash and his friends meet Riley. Barry is revealed to have captured a Heracross. The group encounters Commander Mars of Team Galactic again. Team Galactic excavates a mysterious temple and, using the Spear Key, causes it to send out a strange beam that impacts Mt. Coronet.
Saving the World from Ruins!	Ash and Brock succeed in stopping Team Galactic in their search for the Spear Pillar. James's Carnivine learns Vine Whip. Mars attempts to blow up Iron Island using bombs but is stopped by Riley and his Lucario.

Nurse Joy gives Dawn an Everstone to prevent Piplup's evolution.
Old Rivals, New Tricks!	Dawn, Kenny, and Jessilina compete in the Sandalstraw Town Pokémon Contest. Kenny is revealed to have obtained a Machoke. Dawn battles Kenny in the finals and loses, resulting in her first loss to Kenny. Kenny wins the Sandalstraw Contest and earns his fourth Ribbon, the Sandalstraw Ribbon. Kenny leaves the group. Ambipom discovers her talent for ping pong. Dawn decides to enter the Pokémon Ping Pong Tournament along with Ash and Barry.
To Thine Own Pokémon Be True!	Ash, Dawn, Barry, and Jessie all enter the Pokémon Ping Pong Tournament, but they end up being defeated. Barry leaves the group. Dawn's Ambipom leaves with O for training to become a Ping Pong champion.

Sliding Into Seventh!	Ash has a Gym battle against Candice and wins, earning the Icicle Badge. Ash and his friends encounter Paul again. Zoey meets Paul for the first time.

The group meets up once again with Reggie, who suggests that Paul and Ash should have a battle in 10 days. Brandon arrives at Snowpoint City in order to investigate the Snowpoint Temple. Paul learns that Ash has completed the Kanto Battle Frontier before. Paul challenges Brandon to a battle, but loses. Paul is revealed to have obtained a Hariyama, a Nidoking, and a Lairon.
Pillars of Friendship!	J returns and awakens Regigigas forcefully at the Snowpoint Temple, resulting in it going on a rampage. Brandon battles Regigigas and attempts to capture it in order to stop it, but is stopped by J before he can do so. Regigigas is calmed down and returned to the Snowpoint Temple. Brandon decides to stay at the Snowpoint Temple in order to rebuild it.
Frozen on Their Tracks!	Ash, Dawn, and Brock are revealed to have gone back to wearing their regular outfits. Ash and his friends meet Looker. Brock's Sudowoodo learns Hammer Arm. Looker is revealed to be investigating Team Galactic.
Pedal to the Mettle!	Ash and his friends reach Lake Acuity. Ash and Paul begin their Full Battle. Paul's Magmar is revealed to have evolved into a Magmortar.

Ash discovers that his Grotle can receive a temporary power-up if it swallows an Energy Ball. Ash learns of a Gym in Sunyshore City and decides to head there after the Lilypad Town Pokémon Contest. Team Rocket receives a rocket from Sayer. The Twinleaf Festival ends, and the group leaves Twinleaf Town.
Where No Togepi Has Gone Before!	Team Rocket accidentally destroys the rocket that they bought with the money they received from Sayer in the previous episode.
An Egg Scramble!	Ash and his friends meet Lyra and Khoury, two Pokémon Trainers from Johto. Dawn has a battle with Lyra during the Johto Festival and wins. As a prize for winning the battling exhibit, Dawn receives an Egg, which later hatches into a Cyndaquil. Lyra and Khoury join the group.
Gone With the Windworks!	Dawn's Cyndaquil has its first Pokémon battle with Ash's Grotle, but the battle is called off by Brock. Dawn's Cyndaquil is revealed to know Flame Wheel, Smokescreen, and Swift. Lyra is revealed to own a Girafarig.
A Rivalry to Gible On!	Ash and Khoury attempt to catch the same Gible, with the latter succeeding.
Dressed for Jess Success!	James disguises himself as Jessilina and participates in his first Pokémon Contest. Dawn's Mamoswine is entered for the first time in a Pokémon Contest. Dawn competes in the Lilypad Contest, but is knocked out in the semifinals, suffering her first loss to Jessilina. James wins the Lilypad Contest, earning Jessie her third Contest Ribbon.
Bagged Then Tagged!	Ash and Dawn have a Tag Battle against Lyra and Khoury, which Ash and Dawn win. Khoury's Totodile evolves into a Croconaw. Khoury's father gives Brock a Pokégear. Lyra and Khoury leave the group and return to Johto.
Unlocking the Red Chain of Events!	Dawn learns that a Pokémon Contest will be held in Daybreak Town and will follow the Double Performance format. Ash and his friends encounter Jupiter for the first time. Jupiter reveals that Team Galactic knows that Brock saw Uxie at Lake Acuity. Ash and his friends encounter Looker again and rescue him from the Fuego Ironworks. Team Galactic discovers the gateway to the Spear Pillar. Cyrus hires Pokémon Hunter J to capture Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie.
The Needs of the Three!	Ash and his friends meet up with Cynthia again. Pokémon Hunter J succeeds in capturing the lake guardians and hands them over to Team Galactic. J's ship is destroyed by Mesprit and Uxie's Future Sight and crashes into Lake Valor, leaving J's fate unknown. The lake guardians are placed under Cyrus's control, but they manage to teleport Ash, Brock, and Dawn to the Team Galactic HQ before being completely subdued. Ash and his friends learn that Cyrus is the boss of Team Galactic. Cyrus prepares to summon Dialga and Palkia.
The Battle Finale of Legend!	Cyrus succeeds in briefly summoning Dialga and Palkia. Brock's Croagunk manages to defeat Saturn's Toxicroak, ending their rivalry. Ash, Dawn, and Brock set Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie free from Team Galactic's control. The group join forces with the lake guardians to stop Cyrus and becalm Dialga and Palkia. Cyrus disappears through a portal created by Dialga and Palkia; his ultimate fate is unknown. The previously stolen Adamant Orb and Lustrous Orb are recovered. Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter are arrested, thereby bringing down Team Galactic.
The Treasure Is All Mine!	Dawn learns that James comes from a rich family. James is reunited with his childhood companion Growlie at one of his old mansions. Growlie is revealed to know Dig. Jessebelle returns once again to try and marry James, but to no avail.
Mastering Current Events!	Ash's Gliscor learns Giga Impact. Ash leaves his Gliscor with McCann for training.
Double-Time Battle Training!	Zoey wins the Brussel Contest and earns her fifth Ribbon, thereby completing her requirement for the Sinnoh Grand Festival. Paul is revealed to have earned the Mine Badge and collected the eight Gym Badges required for the Sinnoh League. Zoey is revealed to have obtained a Kirlia and a Leafeon. Dawn attempts the Flame Ice combination for the first time and fails. Dawn has a Double Battle against Zoey and loses.
A Meteoric Rise to Excellence!	Ash tries to help a Gible learn Draco Meteor. Gible starts to follow Ash and his friends.
Gotta Get a Gible!	Ash and his friends meet up with Barry, who is revealed to have won three more Badges, bringing his total count up to six. Ash catches the Gible that he previously befriended. Ash uses Gible in a battle against Empoleon and suffers his first loss to Barry. Ash's Gible is revealed to know Rock Smash.
Short and To the Punch!	Ash's Buizel learns Ice Punch.
A Marathon Rivalry!	Ash encounters and competes at the Pokéathlon for the first time.
Yes in Dee Dee, It's Dawn!	Ash and his friends arrive in Daybreak Town and meet up with Ursula again. Ursula is revealed to have obtained a Plusle, a Minun, and a Jigglypuff. Ash and Brock learn that Dawn has a fear of Plusle and Minun. Ash and Brock learn why Dawn's friends Kenny and Leona call her Dee Dee (Japanese: ピカリ Pikari). Dawn, Ursula, and Jessilina all enter the Daybreak Contest and advance to the Battle Stage.
Playing the Performance Encore!	Jessilina is knocked out of the Daybreak Contest by Ursula. Dawn's Cyndaquil is entered for the first time in a Pokémon Contest. Dawn's Cyndaquil and Mamoswine perfect the Flame Ice combo. Dawn defeats Ursula in the final round and wins the Daybreak Contest. Dawn earns her fifth Ribbon, the Daybreak Ribbon, completing her requirement for entry into the Sinnoh Grand Festival. Dawn overcomes her fear of Plusle and Minun, and is no longer annoyed with being called Dee Dee (Japanese: ピカリ Pikari).
Fighting Ire with Fire!	Ash and his friends meet up with Barry again. Barry is revealed to have earned two more Badges, thus bringing his total to eight and qualifying him for the Sinnoh League. Barry meets Paul for the first time and challenges him to a battle, which Paul refuses. Dawn learns that there are seven Pokémon Contests remaining before the Sinnoh Grand Festival, and that the event itself will be held at Lake Valor. Ash's Monferno activates Blaze and goes on a rampage again. Ash's Monferno evolves into an Infernape.
Piplup, Up and Away!	Dawn's Piplup learns Hydro Pump.
Flint Sparks the Fire!	Ash and his friends reach Sunyshore City and meet Volkner, the Sunyshore Gym Leader, and Flint of the Sinnoh Elite Four. Ash and Flint have a battle, and Ash loses. Volkner agrees to battle Ash.
Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs (Part One)	Ben receives a mission to stop the Pokémon Pinchers' misdeeds. Ben meets Ukulele Pichu and attempts to capture it.
The Fleeing Tower of Sunyshore!	Ash begins his Gym battle against Volkner, but it is interrupted when Team Rocket steals the Sunyshore Tower. Ash's Grotle evolves into Torterra and learns Leaf Storm. Dawn and Salvia decide to switch places for a day, with Salvia entering into the Arrowroot Contest. Jessilina enters the Arrowroot Contest as well, but loses to Salvia in the finals. Jessilina receives the Arrowroot Ribbon from Salvia, thus becoming eligible to enter the Sinnoh Grand Festival. Dawn receives a Togekiss as a gift from Salvia.
Dealing with a Fierce Double Ditto Drama!	Ash and his friends arrive at Valor Lakefront for the Sinnoh Grand Festival.
Last Call, First Round!	Dawn enters the Sinnoh Grand Festival alongside Zoey and Jessilina. Nando, Kenny, and Ursula are revealed to have earned their fifth Contest Ribbons and enter the Grand Festival as well. Nando is revealed to have earned six more Gym Badges and to have obtained a Kricketot and an Altaria. Zoey's Shellos is revealed to have evolved into a Gastrodon while her Finneon is revealed to have evolved into a Lumineon. Kenny is revealed to have obtained a Floatzel and his Prinplup is revealed to have evolved into an Empoleon. Ursula is revealed to have obtained two Eevee, which she evolves into a Vaporeon and a Flareon during her appeal. Dawn, Nando, Ursula, Zoey, and Jessilina successfully clear the Performance Stage. Kenny fails to make it through to the Battle Stage and is eliminated from the Grand Festival.

In The Shadow of Zekrom!	Ash and Pikachu travel with Delia and Professor Oak to the Unova region, where Professor Oak is attending a conference. Ash learns that all of the Pokémon that live in the Unova region cannot be found in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh. Team Rocket also arrive in the Unova region, having being assigned there by Giovanni. Iris is introduced. Ash meets Professor Juniper. Pikachu becomes temporarily unable to use Electric-type attacks after being hit by lightning caused by Zekrom. Ash meets a photographer and beginning Trainer by the name of Trip. Trip obtains a Snivy from Professor Juniper, then battles Ash's Pikachu and wins. The Oshawott from Professor Juniper's lab starts to follow Ash.

It is revealed that Meowth had been lying about being fired from Team Rocket and that his joining the group was part of a plan to steal the gang's Pokémon. Meowth rejoins Jessie and James. Team Rocket successfully steal all the Pokémon from the Nimbasa City Pokémon Center (including those belonging to Ash, Iris, and Cilan) and make a getaway using the Nimbasa Subway Network.

Clemont's Got a Secret!	Ash and his friends return to Lumiose City. Ash and Serena meet Meyer, Clemont and Bonnie's father. Ash and Serena learn that Clemont is the ejected Gym Leader of Lumiose Gym, having been forced to abandon it with Bonnie when Clembot, one of his inventions, ran amok and took over. Clemont is revealed to own a Magnemite, a Magneton, and a Heliolisk, which he keeps at the Gym. Clemont challenges Clembot to a battle and wins, reclaiming the Gym. Clemont modifies the program of Clembot and leaves it in charge of the Gym, and he and Bonnie continue traveling with Ash and Serena. Despite the badge restriction no longer being an issue, Ash decides to wait until he's acquired three more Gym badges before challenging the Lumiose Gym, and Clemont agrees to meet the challenge himself when the time comes.

Coming Apart at the Dreams!	Squishy battles against Z2, but ends up getting subdued by it. Lysandre reveals to Alain his true purpose of having him collect Mega Evolution energy. Serena, Mairin, and Professor Sycamore head to Lysandre Labs to rescue Chespie, with the help of Team Rocket. Lysandre attempts to take control of Ash and Greninja, but fails. Ash frees himself from Lysandre's binds using Bond Phenomenon, with Alain helping to free his Pokémon. Alain turns against Lysandre. Clemont and Clembot defeat Bryony and Aliana, with Clembot subduing them afterwards, allowing them to infiltrate the Lumiose Gym in order to reclaim it. Team Flare places Squishy under their control. Ash and Alain begin their battle against Lysandre. Bonnie begins to run after Squishy.
The Right Hero for the Right Job!	Clembot manages to open the doors to the Lumiose Gym, allowing it and Clemont to head inside it. Clemont battles Xerosic and wins, reclaiming his Gym. Serena meets Steven for the first time. Team Rocket begin their battle against Celosia. Malva turns against and battles Lysandre. Serena, Professor Sycamore, and Mairin escape from Lysandre Labs with Chespie. Bonnie sings Puni-chan's Song to Squishy to calm it down, which frees it from Team Flare's mind control. Clembot sends Xerosic falling through a trap door in the Lumiose Gym. Clemont makes the machine controlling Z2 self-destruct, destroying Clembot in the process, at its own request. Z2 is also released from Team Flare's control.
Rocking Kalos Defenses!	Ash and Alain defeat Lysandre. Team Rocket defeats and subdues Celosia and Mable. The Giant Rock inside Lysandre Labs absorbs Chespie and takes the form of a Zygarde 50% Forme. The Giant Rock destroys Lysandre Labs and heads towards the Anistar City Sundial, threatening to cause an explosion that would destroy the world. Bonnie persuades Z2 to trust her. Ash meets up with Steven again. Ash and his friends, along with Alain, Mairin, Professor Sycamore, Blaziken Mask, Steven, Malva, and Team Rocket, follow the Giant Rock. Diantha and all the Gym Leaders of Kalos arrive to join the battle against the Giant Rock.
Forming a More Perfect Union!	Ash and Alain rescue Chespie from the Giant Rock, temporarily stopping it. Lysandre returns and gains control of the Giant Rock. Clemont and Bonnie discover that Blaziken Mask is Meyer, their father. Squishy and Z2 combine into Zygarde Complete Forme in order to battle and destroy the Giant Rock. The Giant Rock is destroyed, with Lysandre disappearing in the process, leaving his fate unknown and resulting in Team Flare's defeat. Malva decides to disband Team Flare and turn herself in. Chespie wakes up from its coma. Squishy leaves with Z2.
Battling With a Clean Slate!	The Lumiose Gym reopens. Clemont rebuilds Clembot. Ash reveals that he's planning to head back to Pallet Town once Lumiose Airport has reopened. Professor Sycamore gives medals to Ash, his friends, Alain, Mairin, and their Pokémon for their heroic efforts against Team Flare. Serena considers accepting the offer that Palermo made her earlier.
The First Day of the Rest of Your Life!	Ash and Serena have a battle, which Ash eventually calls off. Serena declines Palermo's earlier offer outright, having decided to continue traveling in order to increase her skills. On Palermo's advice, Serena decides to head to Hoenn to compete in Pokémon Contests.
Facing the Needs of the Many!	Ash's Goodra returns to its home in the wetlands. Ash learns that Lumiose Airport has reopened. Xerosic returns, intending to create Neo-Team Flare, but is defeated and arrested. Ash and his friends meet up with Squishy and Z2 again. Ash releases Greninja so that it can protect Kalos with Squishy and Z2. Bonnie promises to Squishy that she will go on another adventure with it once she becomes a Trainer.

To Top a Totem!	Ash meets the Kahuna of Melemele Island, Hala, for the first time. Hala reveals that he makes Z-Rings and that Tapu Koko stole the Z-Ring equipped with Electrium Z that it gave to Ash earlier. Ash clears his first island challenge trial in the Verdant Cavern, earning a Normalium Z from the Totem Gumshoos as a reward.

A Team-on-Team Tussle!	Team Rocket learns about Z-Moves and Z-Crystals. Team Rocket encounters Team Skull for the first time. Team Rocket and Team Skull fight for a Darkinium Z, which Team Rocket take for themselves.
So Long, Sophocles!	Ash brings Sophocles a wild Charjabug as a farewell present. Sophocles catches the Charjabug.
A Glaring Rivalry!	Ash meets Gladion, Lillie's older brother, for the first time. Ash has a battle with Gladion, but it gets interrupted by Team Rocket. Ash learns he can get a Rockium Z from the Island Kahuna of Akala Island.
The Ol' Raise and Switch!	Lillie becomes able to touch Pikachu.
The Island Whisperer!	Ash, Lana, Lillie, Mallow, and Sophocles meet Olivia, the Akala Island Kahuna, for the first time. Ash and his classmates travel to Akala Island along with Olivia and Professor Kukui.
Treasure Hunt, Akala Style!	Ash attempts to catch an Alolan Geodude, but fails. Lana finds a Sparkling Stone, which Olivia takes to be modified into a Z-Ring for her.
Big Sky, Small Fry!	Lana's Popplio learns Aqua Jet. Lana clears the trial at Brooklet Hill, earning a Waterium Z from a Totem Solo Form Wishiwashi as a reward. Olivia converts Lana's Sparkling Stone into a Z-Ring and gives it back to her.
A Crowning Moment of Truth!	Kiawe's Turtonator is revealed to know Dragon Tail and learns Shell Smash. Kiawe catches an Alolan Marowak.
Currying Favor and Flavor!	Ash's Litten performs Breakneck Blitz for the first time. Ash clears the trial in Lush Jungle, earning a Grassium Z from the Totem Lurantis as a reward. Ash becomes qualified to challenge Olivia's grand trial.
Trials and Determinations!	Ash and Rowlet perform Bloom Doom for the first time. Ash defeats Olivia in the Akala Island grand trial, earning a Rockium Z as a reward. Olivia informs Ash that his Rockruff will evolve soon.
Rising from the Ruins!	Gladion is revealed to own a Type: Null. Ash's Rockruff evolves into a Dusk Form Lycanroc. Ash, his classmates, and Professor Kukui leave Akala Island and return to Melemele Island.
Mimikyu Unmasked!	Ash and Lycanroc perform Continental Crush for the first time.
Balloons, Brionne, and Belligerence!	Lana and Popplio perform Hydro Vortex for the first time.
Mounting an Electrifying Charge!	Sophocles's Charjabug is revealed to know String Shot.
Alola, Kanto!	Ash and his classmates travel to Kanto for an extracurricular activity and arrive in Pallet Town. Team Rocket also travels to Kanto, but are later taken back to Alola by Bewear. Ash reunites with Misty and Brock. Lana, Kiawe, Lillie, Mallow, and Sophocles meet Misty, Brock, Professor Oak, and Jigglypuff for the first time. In addition, Misty and Brock meet Professor Kukui, Samson Oak, and Bewear for the first time. Ash's Squirtle and the Squirtle Squad are revealed to be residing at Professor Oak's Laboratory. Ash's Lycanroc is revealed to have learned Accelerock. Ash and his classmates travel to Cerulean City to visit the Cerulean Gym.
When Regions Collide!	Lana and Mallow have a Multi Battle against Misty, but the battle is called off. Misty's Psyduck is revealed to have mastered Water Gun. Sophocles and Lillie have a Multi Battle against Brock, but the battle is called off. Brock's Geodude is revealed to have learned Gyro Ball. Brock and Misty are revealed to have obtained a Key Stone each, while Brock is revealed to have obtained a Steelixite and Misty is revealed to have obtained a Gyaradosite. Ash's classmates learn about Mega Evolution. Kiawe has a battle against Brock and loses. Brock's Steelix is revealed to have learned Gyro Ball and Stone Edge. Ash has a battle against Misty and wins. Misty's Gyarados is revealed to have learned Rain Dance, Hurricane, and Crunch. Professor Kukui reveals that he intends to establish a Pokémon League in Alola. Ash, his classmates, Professor Kukui, Samson Oak, and Team Rocket return to Alola. Jigglypuff follows Ash and his classmates to Alola on top of their plane.
A Dream Encounter!	Ash finds and befriends a Cosmog, which Lillie nicknames "Nebby". Ash meets Lillie's mother Lusamine, Professor Burnet, Faba, and Wicke for the first time. Lillie reunites with her mother. Ash and Professor Kukui learns about the Aether Foundation and the existence of Ultra Beasts.
Now You See Them, Now You Don't!	Nebby is revealed to know Teleport.
Deceiving Appearances!	Ash and his classmates visit Aether Paradise, with Ash, Kiawe, Sophocles, Mallow, and Lana visiting it for the first time. Kiawe, Sophocles, Mallow, and Lana meet Lusamine, Faba, Wicke, and Professor Burnet for the first time. Team Rocket learns about Type: Null and the Ultra Beasts.
A Masked Warning!	Ash meets Gladion again. Ash learns that Lillie's fear of touching Pokémon is related to Nihilego. Ash has another battle with Gladion and loses.
Night of a Thousand Poses!	Lillie becomes unable to touch any Pokémon again after encountering Gladion's Silvally.
Mission: Total Recall!	Gladion's Silvally breaks free of its mask, revealing its true form. Lillie remembers the incident that made her afraid of Pokémon and overcomes it.
Faba's Revenge!	Faba manages to kidnap Nebby. Nebby evolves from a Cosmog into a Cosmoem. Faba summons a Nihilego from an Ultra Wormhole. Nihilego takes Lusamine into the Ultra Wormhole.
Family Determination!	Lillie changes her outfit into her "Z-Powered form". Lillie and Gladion leave for Poni Island together to look for a way to save Lusamine. Ash, his classmates, and Professor Kukui decide to follow Lillie and Gladion to Poni Island. Ash visits Poni Island for the first time. Ash encounters the guardian deities of Ula'ula Island and Poni Island, Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini, for the first time.
Revealing the Stuff of Legend!	Nebby evolves into Solgaleo. Professor Kukui is revealed to own a Braviary. Ash obtains a Solganium Z. The guardian deities upgrade Ash's Z-Ring into a Z-Power Ring. Ash, his classmates, and Gladion enter an Ultra Wormhole with Solgaleo in search of Lusamine. In the process, Ash and Nebby perform Searing Sunraze Smash for the first time.
Rescuing the Unwilling!	Ash, his classmates, and Gladion find Lusamine in Ultra Deep Sea, only to discover she has fused with Nihilego. Kiawe's Marowak is revealed to know Bonemerang. Ash and his friends battle Lusamine. Nebby is revealed to know Sunsteel Strike. Kiawe splits from the group to battle Lusamine's Salazzle and wins. Lana, Mallow, and Sophocles, along with Rowlet and Litten, split from the group to battle Lusamine's Milotic, Lilligant, and Mismagius. Gladion splits from the group to battle Lusamine's Absol. Lillie, along with Lycanroc, split from the group to battle Lusamine's Clefable and free it from Nihilego's control.
10,000,000 Reasons to Fight!	Ash's Electrium Z temporarily changes into a Pikashunium Z. Ash and Pikachu perform 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt for the first time. Ash and Pikachu defeat Lusamine and free her from Nihilego's control. Ash, his classmates, Gladion, Lusamine and Nebby return to their own world.
The Professors' New Adventure!	Nebby is revealed to have returned to the wild. Professor Kukui proposes to Professor Burnet. Professor Kukui and Professor Burnet get married. Lusamine, Wicke, and Faba invite Ash and his classmates to join the "Ultra Guardians" task force to deal with any future Ultra Beast incidents, which they accept.
Fighting Back the Tears!	James tries and fails to catch a female Frillish. James tries to release Mareanie, but Mareanie chooses to stay with him.
Getting a Jump on the Competition!	Ash visits Ula'ula Island for the first time. Hala's Crabrawler evolves into Crabominable. Snowy is revealed to know Hail and learns Aurora Veil.
A Mission of Ultra Urgency!	Ash and his classmates go on their first Ultra Guardians mission. Rotom is updated with data about the Ultra Beasts. The Ultra Guardians catch a Buzzwole and release it back into Ultra Space.
Acting True to Form!	James is revealed to own a Great, Ultra, Premier, Dusk, Heal, and Quick Ball. Team Rocket learn that they need a Z-Ring in order to use their Darkinium Z. An Alolan Meowth joins Team Rocket and travels to the Team Rocket HQ in Kanto, where it is appointed as Matori's assistant.
Pushing the Fiery Envelope!	Ash learns about Battle Royals and the Masked Royal. Professor Kukui is revealed to own an Incineroar, a Z-Ring, and an Incinium Z. Ash, the Masked Royal, Sophocles, and Kiawe participate in a Battle Royal and the Masked Royal wins. Ash's Litten learns Flame Charge and evolves into Torracat. Ash has a Single Battle with the Masked Royal, but loses.
SM065	Ash meets Ilima for the first time. Ash challenges Ilima to a battle, but they are interrupted by the arrival of Team Skull before the battle can properly begin.
SM066	Ilima heads back to Kalos.
SM067	Ash and his classmates meet the Poipole that has been following them for the first time. Ash catches Poipole to take care of it until the location of its Ultra Wormhole is discovered.
SM069	Ash and his classmates go on their second Ultra Guardians mission. The Ultra Guardians try and fail to capture a Celesteela, due to it being rooted down at the time. The Ultra Guardians help free the Celesteela from being trapped underground, allowing it to fly back home.
SM070	Kiawe's Marowak performs Inferno Overdrive for the first time.
SM072	Ash and Lillie meet Ulu, Mallow's brother, for the first time.
SM073	James's Mareanie learns Knock Off. Team Rocket receives a Z-Power Ring from Nanu. James and Mareanie perform Black Hole Eclipse for the first time. Jessie receives a Mimikium Z from Acerola's Mimi-tan.
SM074	Professor Kukui is revealed to have told Ash and his classmates about the Pokémon League he's establishing to Alola. Ash arrives at Ula'ula Island and meets Island Kahuna, Nanu and Acerola for the first time. Ash's Lycanroc goes berserk again. Ash battles Nanu and loses. Acerola agrees to help Ash train for a rematch with Nanu.
SM075	Ash's Rowlet learns Razor Leaf. Team Rocket learns the pose for Mimikyu's Z-Move. Ash's Lycanroc overcomes its habit of going berserk after getting its fur wet or dirty. Ash's Lycanroc learns Stone Edge.
SM076	Jessie's Mimikyu is revealed to have the Ability Disguise. Jessie and Mimikyu perform Let's Snuggle Forever for the first time. Ash's Pikachu learns Electroweb. Ash clears the Thrifty Megamart trial, becoming qualified to challenge Nanu's grand trial.
