Trivia

Origin

It is based on a Teddy Bear.

Name origin

Teddiursa's name is a combination of teddy bear and ursa, Latin for bear. Its Japanese name may be a combination of 姫 hime, princess, or hi, an alternate reading of 朏 mikazuki , crescent moon, and 熊 kuma, bear.

  • The "Teddy" in Teddiursa has its roots in Theodore Roosevelt Jr. because "Teddy" Roosevelt refused to kill a bear, deeming that killing a tied up bear was un-sportsmanlike. This was later produced into a political cartoon. While the bear became smaller and "cuter". One toy maker decided to make a small stuffed bear and sold it under the name of "Teddy's Bear" which became a sucess. These "Teddy's Bears" were made by more people and eventually became the popular trend known today.
