Technician (Japanese: テクニシャン Technician) is an Ability introduced in Generation IV.

Effect

In battle

Technician increases the power of moves which have a power of 60 or less by 50%.

For moves with variable power, Technician will only apply if the power is 60 or less when used. Thus, Pursuit will not get a Technician boost if the opposing Pokémon switches and Pursuit's power doubles to 80, and Low Kick and Grass Knot will only get a Technician boost if the target's weight is 110.0 lbs. (49.9 kg) or less. Similarly, if a move like Avalanche is used by a Pokémon previously damaged in the same turn, which doubles Avalanche's power to 120, then Technician will not be applied.

Additionally, Technician will check for the presence of Fairy Aura and Dark Aura (with or without Aura Break), as well as a teammate's Battery, when determining whether it should apply. No other external factors that affect move power (such as Plates) are taken into account.

The effect does not apply to confusion damage, which remains at a power of 40.

Affected moves

The table below lists the moves affected by Technician, as well as the Pokémon that can have Technician and learn those moves.

Although the following moves are affected by the Ability, they can be only learned by Smeargle with Technician via Sketch (with exception of Struggle and Chatter).

Outside of battle

Technician has no effect outside of battle.
