- If you're looking for the theme deck from EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua, see Team Magma (TCG).
Team Magma (Japanese: マグマ団 Magma Gang) is one of the villainous teams to be found in Hoenn. Team Magma's goal is to raise and expand the landmasses of the world with the power of Groudon. The leader of Team Magma is Maxie. Their uniforms are a black shirt, black short pants for the men and black skirt for the women, with a short red jacket.
In the games
Team Magma appears in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, but they have the central history only in Ruby. Team Magma is made up of three different ranks. Their headquarters is the Magma hideout.
- Grunts - The lowest ranking members
- Admins - High-level managers who oversee devious projects. There are only two on Team Magma, Courtney and Tabitha.
- Leader - In the case of Team Magma, Maxie.
Their Pokémon include Numel for Grunts, Camerupt, Golbat, Mightyena, and Poochyena; in general, they use a mix of Flying-, Poison-, and Fire-types.
In the anime
Team Magma only appears several times, searching for clues on the ancient Pokémon Groudon. Their leader, Maxie, never even touches a Poké Ball, much less control Groudon. While returning to base in a submarine, they accidentally pick up Ash and company, who are discovered by Maxie. In the anime, Team Magma functions as a complete organization, and respect is always shown.
There are many grunts and an admin, Tabitha. Brodie's status is unknown; he may be an admin or a very experienced grunt. Butler from Jirachi: Wish Maker worked as a scientist for the organization at a time prior to the movie.
Their Pokémon usually include Houndoom and Mightyena. Brodie's team includes a Ditto.
In the manga
Team Magma is still consisted of three different ranks, just as the two above. Instead of admins, you have the FireHeads Trio, composed of three trainers with specialties relating to the use of fire. Mack, Courtney and Tabitha. Their leader is Maxie (Matsubusa). In the manga, Team Magma is fairly unorganized, functioning in a rather 'barbaric' way. Basically, Maxie gives an order, and the three FireHeads can carry out the orders in any way they wish to. Unlike the anime, they show absolutely no respect towards their leader.
Their Pokémon include Camerupt, Numel, Slugma, Magcargo, Torkoal, and Ninetales.
