I'm guessing the French name is a combination of "prism" and "papillon" (butterfly) Vienna Waltz (talk) 20:24, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Possible Origin-disco ball?

This may be pushing it a bit, but could Vivillon be based off a disco ball? Due to the square designs all over it and that its body is a silver-white color with colorful wings to represent how a disco ball reflects colors? CyberCat5555 (talk) 22:13, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Looks a little like a disco floor, or a glitch screen. Maybe even one of those colored ARTag square. I've seen a few AR tags us pinks and grey in combination.Yamitora1 (talk) 00:05, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Worth putting to it's and its pre evos's Origin?

I found a very possible design theory of its line. It has something to do with those "pixel-like" shapes on them. http://tinyurl.com/lkhy2r8 --Antlionerd (talk) 14:10, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Korean name for Vivillon

Its Korean name is 비비용 Bibiyong.

  • It's essentially a transliteration of its Japanese name.
NOTE: I don't think the 용 yong in its name means dragon, it's just a way some words/syllables ending in "n" are transliterated in Korean. For comparison, "France" is 프랑스 Peu'rang'seu. -- Nick15 (talk) 18:23, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
  • UPDATE: It's based on the Japanese and English names, since they all basically use the same etymology:
  • 비비 bibi comes from the Korean transliteration of the word "vivid" (비비드 bibideu)
(as 美 in Korean is 미 mi, not bi like in Japanese)
  • yong comes from the Korean transliteration of "papillon" (파피용 papiyong). -- Nick15 (talk) 19:40, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Vivillon Forms

According to the article there are 18 different forms. Currently I was able to pull out of the PGL 8 versions. Unfortunately, there are rather small. Should we use these as a placeholders, for example, till we get HQ versions? Here's an example of one of the forms: e175c2.png
In another subject, do we have an official source for the name of the forms? I have seen them around the internet, but I cannot find an official source with their names. --Sekuiyatalk 16:03, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Addressing the second part, the names of the patterns are found in Vivillon's dex entry for each different pattern found (for example, mine lists Meadow, Continental, Polar, and Modern Pattern). That's as official as it gets. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 16:12, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
Oh, you're right! Guess I should have explored the Dex a little more. Now, regarding those little images... --Sekuiyatalk 16:21, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

I would just like to add that there are 2 more forms that have been discovered. TheJaceX (talk) 18:48, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Pics: [1] The pattern of the one on the left is quite obviously based on a Poké Ball, and the one on the right seems to be some sort of floral pattern. Luigi-San 22:11, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Vivillon's Forms

Shouldn't there be a section about which area gets which Vivillon form? Or should that be on the variant Pokémon article? KyuremTrainer (talk) 20:53, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Well, we can try to find a way. But currently, there's just too many to list, dunno how we're gonna fit it on the article without making it huge. --Sekuiyatalk 11:45, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Okay... WHOA I just checked a website... The table is gonna be loooooong...
(To start the list though, I know being in Minnesota makes you have a Modern Vivillon :D) KyuremTrainer (talk) 00:32, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
That would go here. Ataro (talk) 18:52, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

All we'd have to do is generate a world map color coded to represent the different areas where certain Vivillion can be found. Just use a eyedropper to select the most abundant color on each Vivillion and use that as their color code. From the looks of it from my research, the hardest thing would be the US. However, that's only a mildly difficult task since most people grew up drawing the US at some point. I know I had to draw it every year in school. I could pop out a color coded world map in a few days, five at the most if I play too much Y. Yamitora1 (talk) 09:19, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Here's the geographic locations for each pattern, as listed in the Japanese guidebook (thanks to bluesun). I have them in much higher resolution, but I figured this was enough (since otherwise they take ages to load). [2] [3] --SnorlaxMonster 09:40, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Someone's made a map of the world denoting the locations of all of Vivillon's patterns: [4] Luigi-San 22:04, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Friend Safari Bug(?)

It seems that if you have a Vivillon in a Friend Safari, the little preview picture of it will never fill in and appear to be blank as if you hadn't yet encountered it. Would this be something the page should note? PowerPlantRaichu (talk) 17:29, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Are we gonna talk about it's National Dex number?

Maybe in the Trivia section... - unsigned comment from Checkmate824 (talkcontribs)

There's really nothing notable about it. It's just a number. Crystal Talian 16:04, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Pattern determined when generated

The current description states that the pattern is determined by Original Trainer. This should either be reworded or a piece of trivia added to clarify what happens in the case of eggs. In the case of an egg, the pattern is determined by the game the egg was generated in. Thus it is possible to have a Vivillon with a pattern that does not match the geographic location of it's Original Trainer. Hamner (talk) 06:41, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Reworded. Thanks for brining that point up :) レシイラムtalk 10:24, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
