Egg move

Sunkern IS catchable in HGSS

Sunkern can be obtainable in HGSS without trading from another game... It's common on Route 24, common in the National Park, and common in the Safari Zone. - unsigned comment from Fiyero49 (talk • contribs)

"Nuts"

It bothers me how the Name Origin section states that the Japanese name of this Pokemon comes from the English word "nuts". What does Sunkern have to do with nuts, really? The fact that official Romaji is Himanuts doesn't really signify anything. The official romajis are often Engrish and ignore the intended meaning, like Prasle, Dirteng or Dogohmb (or, recent example Zorua, which comes from the word "zorro", not "zorruo" or something). We shouldn't blindly follow them. I would personally tie the "nattsu" part to the Japanese word "natsu", summer. --Maxim 16:42, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Considering that we don’t have any official direct proof, with the only possible exception of Rotom, whose origin is clearly stated as the reversal of motor, I think Pokemon names’ etymologies (or better, folk etymologies) should be judged using common sense. Given that a nut can be described as: A hard-shelled seed [2], or A nut in botany is a simple dry fruit with one seed (rarely two) in which the ovary wall becomes very hard (stony or woody) at maturity, and where the seed remains attached or fused with the ovary wall… A nut in cuisine is a much less restrictive category than a nut in botany, as the term is applied to many seeds that are not botanically true nuts. Any large, oily kernel found within a shell and used in food may be regarded as a nut. [3] I, personally, think that’s not an exagerately big stretch to relate Sunkern with nuts. The romanization as nuts surely isn’t conclusive, but you must admit that it could be seen as a little suggestive. At the same time a natsu-summer relation isn’t a stupid guess, and I would accept it too. We have had plenty of exemples of ambiguity and lack of scientificity in Pokemon naming: Charizard isn’t exactly based on a lizard, Beedril is a wasp, Vespiquen is bee (vespa means wasp), Magikarp is not magic, Torterra/Dodaitose is an ankylosaurus (not a turtle), Persian is not a persian (more of a cougar). ... I was just thinking about this yesterday, actually. "Himanuts? Wait, nattsu? ... Natsu?" It's not that big of a stretch (certainly less of a stretch than a lot of origins.. I can't think of anything off the top of my head besides the whole Zoroark thing a couple days ago though.), either.

I wouldn't doubt that its name is based on nuts, but I think it's plausible that it incorporates summer... after all, sunflowers tend to be associated with summer. I don't think anyone will rage if it's added to the page lol. ▫▪Ťïňắ ^♫♥ 21:23, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

base stats

Sunkern from what I've seen is also one of two Pokémon to have their base stats all equal (base HP=base Atk=base Def=base SpA=base SpD=base Spe) with a 30-30-30-30-30-30 base spread, making it the weakest base Pokémon in the games. The other Pokémon that shares this characteristic is the strongest base Pokémon, Arceus which has a 120-120-120-120-120-120 base stat spread. This characteristic is shared by only these two (I think), and I think it should deserve a mention. Please let me know if there are any other Pokémon with this trait. --typhonandfafnir. I don't think it deserves a mention. Like I said, I only listed the Pokemon I knew off of the top of my head, but there are a lot more that share this trait. When you start talking about a lot of Pokémon sharing a trait, it becomes less and less notable. It's Funktastic~! 01:53, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Morning?

Not sure why it says that Sunkern is available in the morning in Gen IV. If you go to the National Park page, Sunkern isn't available until the day. Is it alright if I remove it? (Arcalargo (talk) 12:31, 3 April 2014 (UTC))
