Due to special coding in place in the article, the artwork featured on this article will change every year on November 21 and October 15 in celebration of the releases of Gold and Silver in Japan, and Gold and Silver in the United States. Translation

It seems as if 宿主 yadonushi (parasitic host) is much more appropriate than 宿借り yadokari (hermit crab), given that Shellder is essentially a parasite on Yadon's head. And I quote the PokéDex:

The Shellder that latches onto the Slowbro's tail is said to feed on the host's leftover scraps (RB) Naturally dull to begin with, it lost its ability to feel pain due to Shellder's seeping poison. (Silver) An attached Shellder won't let go because of the tasty flavor that oozes out of its tail. (Crystal)

I don't see why it is a hermit crab. Yes, Shellder acts as a shell, but Slowking doesn't live inside it, and Shellder is living as opposed to being empty. -Argy

>Yes, but Yadon still refers to "hermit crab", and Shellder isn't even involved at that stage. It's relative, "Yadoran" ALSO refers to hermit crab. It refers to hermit crab because everything else in it's evolutionary path refers to hermit crabs, even if Slowking diverges a little, it certainly doesn't diverge more than Yadon - who has no shell at all!

You have the relationship reversed - Shelder is the parasite (寄生), and Slowking is the host (宿主). Interestingly, one of the other meanings of 宿主 is landlord. However, I am inclined to think that yado is a reference to hermit crabs more than anything else. - unsigned comment from Zhen Lin (talk • contribs)

Well, let's just compromise, then. I'll add the part about hermit crabs, even though I still see absolutely no connection. Zeta, Yadon still has the potential to become a parasitic host, so that isn't out of the question. -Argy

Is it worth noting that Shellder's shiny form is gold, something that shiny Slowbro's honor, Shiny Slowking's shellder isn't gold?--Nostalgia 03:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC) Well, if you think about it, the chances of a shiny Shellder latching onto a shiny Slopoke in anyway is really unlikely (1 in roughly 4000).
