Rather than putting "the current banner" as the caption, why not put "a recent banner" as the caption? That way the caption won't need to be changed whenever the banner is changed, which is pretty often. Revision as of 16:12, 31 August 2010

The article is pushing the limits between fact and opinion - it isn't a question of the truth. I don't think the last two paragraphs are really necessary - perhaps a reference to some controversy but there isn't any need to have a a dedicated paragraph refuting all the claims of plagiarism on this type of pedia. The actual Serebii.net website should be responsible for maintaining its own integrity not other party's sites such as Bulbapedia which being within the public domain could spark more controversy.

There is no "opinion" here, everything on this article is nothing but fact and speculation. Although speculation is not necessarily truth, you'ld only have to click "Random Page" on Wikipedia to find some. From speculation you will eventually arrive at the truth anyway. This article does not attack Serebii.net and is not written biasedly.

Just a quick request to people posting messages on this page. Please use the timestamp button (Second from the right) with your message, so we know who you are and when you posted. This page, as well as Serebii (person) are likely to end up controversial (Anything to do with Joe tends to), so it'll just help if/when any conflicts erupt.--Archaic 10:19, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

There is no "opinion" there at present. There is factual information on Joe and thievery ; he admits that he stole until 2002, and claim that anything that happened afterward was the result of unscrupulous fans passing him the info along.

Very sorry about the timestamp thing, my laptop honestly fails to type tildes half of the time. I end up having to copy paste from somewhere. Do'h. *Copys* - Ferret 10:31, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

sorry...

I originally posted the first comment which was before a lot of the article had been changed so it appears to be more factual at the moment so that's what I was hoping for originally. - --Ainohuyuah 12:16, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Images

"If this is on serebii.net, it was stolen" embedded in them, in addition to images created by hand by noted fansite webmaster Meowth346, are known to still be on the site.

Any links? ;d --Jshadias 04:38, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I'll send you a PM on BMGf with one of the stolen ones. It's not one of the ones with that message embedded, but it does have an embedded message showing that it's been stolen from someone. --Archaic 11:00, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Protection of the page

Is there any reason the page has been protected for several months? If not, it should be unprotected.User142 07:50, 12 December 2005 (CST)

Yes. FabuVinny 11:04, 12 December 2005 (CST)

Let's see what happens now that these pages have been unprotected. - 振霖T 08:09, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Recent hacking?

Has anyone bothered to mention the recent SPP/SPPf hacking? I'm suprised no-one's done it... Samurai 004 09:55, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Is this supposed to follow WP:NPOV?

"Serebii, the owner, claims that he has not personally stolen anything since mid-2002." <- The italics is definitely not NPOV.
"Serebii eventually accepts to do so in the vast majority of cases." <- Bad grammar.
"Serebii.net has occasionally been the center of controversy, as its webmaster has faced accusations of theft in the past. Serebii, the owner, claims that he has not personally stolen anything since mid-2002." <- These sentences, which introduce the idea of theft, make him sound like a thief of material goods. Especially because it says the webmaster stole things rather than the site.
--Raijinili 07:14, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, by all means. Please feel free to write up a revised edition on a subpage so that we can implement those edits. - 振霖T 13:22, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't know enough. >_> --Raijinili 00:54, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Italics giving 'wrong' message?

I quote, "Serebii claims"

I think the italics should be removed. They seem to be showing a sceptical point of view that I don't think is unbiased. Whether it's true or not, it's simply a matter of rumour, and 'claiming'. Ebola 06:47, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

That's Merrick. You never know what he's really doing. --Maxim 12:51, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

More Background

I'd like to give this article, and the one based on me more background, but I worry that you guys would claim I'm just spreading propaganda and being bias. I'll keep it pure fact, but I guess I'm asking for permission lol --Serebii 10:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I believe you are fully capable of adding unbiased information. And if you do show hints of bias (which I imagine it'd be difficult not to; there's a reason I haven't made an article for myself, even though plenty of people on the forums have said I deserve one) we'll be sure to try and reword what you've written in a neutral way while trying not to remove any facts. So, go ahead and edit. --Pie ~ 15:53, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Site down

The site's down. Looks like it was taken down by roadrunner.--Reptileus 15:49, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

People shouldn't panic whenever a highly notable fansite goes down suddenly. Odds are it'll be back up eventually.
Additionally, their forums are still up, and everything they know is explained. --Shiningpikablu252 16:00, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Staff

Is the staff bit really necessary...it isn't listing Site staff at all apart from myself and Coronis...its just listing various forum and chat things and they are essentially a separate entity...while I consider them "staff" of those aspects, I do not consider them Serebii.net staff. --Serebii 09:12, 7 October 2008 (UTC) How/why is Encyclopika listed? She doesn't do anything for the site?? ~~

Controversy section

These are quite a claim to make against a site. At the very least, it should be backed up with a source. ANY type of source. If it isn't, I'll edit the section within 48 hours.

For example, what Serebii stole, who originally created it, and the statement by Serebii that the site hasn't stolen since 2002. All of those claims need a source.Randomspot555 05:24, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

[1] [2] If you need further sources search the forums, or ask Archaic. Trainer-c 06:07, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
From my point of view this article looks really biased considering it's solely made up of "Controversy" and "Server Issues". Is there any way we can write about the site's features too without going into too much detail?--Emp 20:36, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
This a wiki. You can edit it if you want. —darklordtrom 21:15, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Errors

Is it me, or do I see errors everywhere on the website? It seems like half of the Hoenn Battle Frontier symbols are different, the Battle Pike has a different name, the accent is missing from most of the "é"s, and that half the site is outdated, if not incorrect. --~Sparen of Iría~ 21:37, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

There are errors. I've noticed it ever since I've been going there, which was around 2006. But the site's too huge to solve every error, unless Serebii decides to spend 2 weeks fixing everything taking into account that he has things to do. But the site is only updated and editing by 10 people. Bulbagarden has errors, and it has 353,571 users, even if half haven't edited, that's still a big number. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 23:20, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Incorrect. The site is only updated and edited by 1 person, excluding Manga and Pokémon of the Week. We have a mistakes thread on the forum for you to notify me of such errors and I try to get to them as soon as possible. However, do remember that a lot of the pages, such as the Emerald section, were made 5 years ago and so don't have the level of polish that exists within the recent game sections. I do keep meaning to go back and fix such problems, but Nintendo keeps throwing new games at me and those end up eating my time --Serebii 12:51, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Not to mention that the site completely forgot about Crystal having egg moves that Gold and Silver didn't have when they said that HeartGold and SoulSilver were the first games to bring in new egg moves within a generation. Funny thing is, their own Generation II Pokédex lists which egg moves are Crystal-only...--Shiningpikablu252 00:33, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

the site has new names for the HGSS items ... should we copy the names or should we wait until the relase of the game?--Hanmac 22:42, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Wait until the release. We don't know if they are true, that's why Kotone (game) and Gold (game) aren't at Lyra (game) and Ethan (game). Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 22:44, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

"Scripts" line

Serebii.net is very protective over its content. The site has functions that disable right-clicking, and highlighting and copying text in most browsers.

It's not entirely accurate. They're not scripts that he uses to disable that functionality, but rather it's the:

oncontextmenu="return false" onselectstart="return false" ondragstart="return false"

in the body tag that prevent right-clicking and highlighting.

In this day and age though such a method is rather rudimentary (and borderling noobishness). Maybe the line should be reworded, or maybe even removed? It's not like he'll plan on changing it anytime soon, and even then in the meantime we all still have F12, Firebug and Ctrl+Shift+I... TheChrisD RantsEdits 01:21, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Rather than putting "the current banner" as the caption, why not put "a recent banner" as the caption? That way the caption won't need to be changed whenever the banner is changed, which is pretty often. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 15:01, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
