Russian name

The Russian name is a transcription of English name. --Raltseye prata med mej 18:40, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Is the spelling the same? glikglak 18:42, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
What do you mean? Of course not, it's a transcription from its English name to the Cyrillic alphabet. What's on the page now is adequate. --Raltseye prata med mej 13:35, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Name order and Chinese name

The Japanese name follows the Western naming order (First name before surname), so it's ナリヤ・オーキド, rather than オーキド・ナリヤ. Also, the Chinese name is 成也・大木 (romanized as Chéngyě Dàmù in Mandarin, not sure about Cantonese transcription). The Korean name seems unknown at the moment. --Maxim (talk) 19:08, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Korean name

Finally revealed as 송호 오 Songho O. In Western name order, consistently to Japanese and Chinese versions. --Maxim (talk) 13:40, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Trivia, re: Name Order

OK, I added a section concerning Samson's name order in the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese versions as being in Western order, as opposed to East Asian Order (given name before family name, versus the other way around). I added a simple blurb explaining why (I suspected) they did his name like that: likely to give a hint of "foreignness" to Samson, since he's living in—and adapted to—the far off, non-Asian, region of Alola, versus the more local—and more Asian—Kanto region. I didn't go into more detail, and even what little I wrote might be a huge discussion in-and-of-itself, so I'm open to anyone updating it or editing it or whatever to make it more appropriate... add more or less detail, etc, if it helps.

But whatever happens, the section pointing out the Western name order versus Asian name order should remain, because I think it points out an important character detail that the devs wanted to impart upon Samson (in four different language versions, no less) which simply doesn't translate at all to the Western versions. Whaddya think? -- Nick15 (talk) 09:48, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

I think it's just the case that Alola is a region not based on Japan, and they know Westerners use given name before surname, so they reflected that with Samson. It's not to "give it a hint of foreignness", it's just literally how it is. If a Japanese person moved to a Western country, they would get used to using their given name first before surname. Even if someone's just visiting from Japan, like for a convention, they almost always introduce themselves given name, then surname, cause they know that's how it works in English. Are we sure that Kanto's Professor Oak uses a different name order, as this trivium claims? To my knowledge his first name was only given in the anime (and even then, never in conjunction with the last name, so we don't know the order), and our page for him lists the same order as Samson ("<given name> Okido"). Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 21:43, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Our page says オーキド・ユキナリ博士 (Ōkido Yukinari-hakase). We translate it in Western order because Japanese names in modern times are rendered in English in Western order (e.g. Satoshi Tajiri). The Japanese Red/Green guidebook renders in as such, and it's apparently also in The Electric Tale of Pikachu. --Abcboy (talk) 22:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Ah. Thanks for explaining! Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 22:19, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Egg From Kanto

Could somebody add that in for an 'On Hand' section? Please and thank you. Pikatwig (talk) 02:14, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Komala's Comatose

Rotto confirmed the ability as Comatose, in fact Comatose was stated to be the reason Komala can stay asleep and move around, at all. Meaning the ability has been used since SM002! Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 23:42, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Actually, it didn't say that Samson Oak's Komala had that ability. It could have been talking about the Pokemon in general. Playerking95 (talk) 08:07, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Samson and Blue

Game Freak's messed up here, your cousin's grandchildren are your first cousins twice removed. For Blue to be his great nephew, Samuel and Samson would have to be brothers instead. Can we change that here or at the least mention this somewhere? Sneaking from page to page... It's the page-editing purple ghost... Gengarzilla! 04:24, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Fixed. I don't think it's been explicitly confirmed that he and Samuel are first cousins, so I'm leaving it at just cousins-twice-removed. Someone tried to change it to "nephew-twice-removed" before, too... --Abcboy (talk) 04:56, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Komala ability

Rotomdex specifically said that Komala's ability is Comatose so is that OK to put in the Komala entry?--BigDocFan (talk) 16:57, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

But it didn't. It said "Sinces IT'S ability is Comatose", not "Since that Komala's ability is Comatose". It always gives a general description of the Pokemon, not a specific Pokemon that belongs to someone/is wild. It's could imply Komala in general. Playerking95 (talk) 17:48, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
Despite Rotomdex reffering to Pokémon generally, this was a very de facto 'Komala has Comatose'- the whole species and that the whole species is constantly using the ability. Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 12:36, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

Samsom Oak anime page?

Why we still haven´t created an anime page of Samsom Oak since he is a recurring character?--Robin Maximo (talk) 03:26, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

There is no reason to split this page into an anime stub page for him. I'm sure as the anime goes along if more content becomes notable that it can be its own page that it might but most game characters usually have an anime section dedicated to their appearance in the anime on their pages. Same for tcg and manga appearances. Frozen Fennec 09:14, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

Puns

Just curious if anyone thinks it a good idea to create a page to list all the Puns that Samson Oak has made, or would that be too PUNishing for Bulbapedia--BigDocFan (talk) 14:51, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

That sounds to me like it would be an exceedingly long list of exceedingly little value to almost anyone. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:41, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
Agreed. I don't really see the value of it. ☼ BlazingFist ☼ 18:04, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
Fair enough--BigDocFan (talk) 18:30, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

(cousin-twice-removed)

(cousin-twice-removed)

It's in the info box on the right. What? ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 20:37, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

What about it? It's a legit blood relative designation. Kai * the Arc Toraph 22:50, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
But what's with the twice-removed part? ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 00:11, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
Google can probably answer any questions about it as well as anyone here can. Tiddlywinks (talk) 02:24, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Samson Oak's Alolan Exeggutor

Shouldn't Samson Oak's Alolan Exeggutor's voice actor be the same man that voiced the recurring Exeggutor from Treasure Island, Marc Thompson? Please help me out with this.
Gallade User 16:09, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

We need someone to confirm it, preferably Marc Thompson himself or Lisa Ortiz--BigDocFan (talk) 16:11, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
