:Old question is old but since I just noticed his Z-Crystal (slightly) changing today I'll give it an answer. The symbol on his crystal does not match the symbol on Pikanium-Z nor does the color of the crystal itself match. It's more likely that it's entered the "first stage" of becoming Pikashunium-Z. Ash's Electrium Z temporarily changed to Pikanium Z?
Ash's Electrium Z has a different design in one of the scenes. It appears after the training wheel exploded and the Z-crystal glowed. The new design/pattern appears as a 2-stepped lightning bolt akin to the Pikanium Z.
As Pikachu was running on the training wheel when the Z-crystal reacted, it might be a reference to Pikachu requiring to know Volt Tackle for the Pikanium Z to activate.
Can this be added to the page as speculation (as it wasn't verbally confirmed in the episode)? If not will this be treated as an animation error?
