Roar in the Anime

Wasn't Roar used by Suicune against Eusine in EP227, to flee from his Pokémon?

Mean Look/Shadow Tag

If a wild Pokémon uses Roar when the opponent used Mean Look/Spider Web/Block or has Shadow Tag/Arena Trap, will the battle end? 1337Fire ►strike! 18:24, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, I found it works with Shadow Tag, but with Mean Look/Block/Spider Web? 1337Fire ►strike! 00:51, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Probably, and with Arena Trap too. Aura-Knight 01:01, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Generation I priority?

I'm pretty sure that Roar and Whirlwind have normal priority in Generation I. Can someone confirm this? Blaziken257 01:58, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Generation V effect?

I was training my Deino around Unova Route 10 and a wild Herdier failed to Roar my Pokémon out of battle several times in a row. (For the record, they were both Lv.39) So ... is there possibly more to Roar's success rate in wild Pokémon battles than is currently stated? --Stratelier 07:10, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

I attempted to use Roar on a same level Basculin with my Steelix along Unova Route 1 and encountered the same problem, it failed multiple times before i fled. theseriddlesthree 10:06, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
This thing can definitely work on same-level Pokémon in wild battles. Just had an Aron scare me off in Mistralton Cave and we were both level 30. --GuyPerfect (talk) 01:45, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Origin

Could it be that Roar is inspired by the shisa of Japanese mythology, which dispels evil spirits with its roar? It seems legitimate since only Growlithe (based on the shisa) and Vulpix could learn it naturally in Gen I. Should this be added? --IWannaBeTheVeryBest (talk) 11:27, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Formula for roar

There was a formula given by a Chinese wiki, it says that there was a chance of failing for using it. (If attacker's level is lower than opposite's, calculate: (attacker's level + defencer's level) * random number[0-256] < defencer's level / 4. If this happens, then it will makes move failed from using it. Kolu (talk) 04:12, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

I've seen this happen before, many times. The formula seems pretty weird, though, since all it can result in is random(256). Where'd you find it? Dimenticare (talk) 00:36, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

More details on Roar required

Like the above post mentioned, I have seen Roar fail before in situations where it shouldn't have. This happened often in HGSS with the roaming legendaries which had the move, Roar. The failure didn't always occur though.

Also, I found out that when Roar is used by the wild Pokémon in a horde battle, it doesn't force the battle to end as normal. Should this be noted?--Wowy (talk) 10:11, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
