Artwork

I have uploaded a clearer image of Haribōgu with an invisible background.a:File:ハリボーグ_(Haribōgu)_XY_Artwork_Ken_Sugimori.png May I suggest that this is used instead. Thank You!--ShinyPatch (talk) 15:20, 12 September 2013 (UTC)--ShinyPatch (talk) 15:20, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Origin

Based off a rodent and a chestnut. Also, the whole line takes inspiration from a soldier or knight, which hopefully will become more clear in its final evolution. CoolDudeAl (talk) 01:19, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

The bōgu is Quilladin's Japanese name is also a reference to the French [bogue], the hard, green covering of a chestnut still on the tree. Could someone please edit this in? Arpha (talk) 20:10, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Is there something I'm missing here, because I'm not sure how you're getting "soldier/knight" from the Chespin line? If anything, I'd mark the line as an Oliver Twist style upbeat-happy-go-lucky ragamuffin. (edit: I just noticed quilladin's species name. right.) Also, I'm pretty sure that the line is based on a hedgehog, which is not a rodent. So, there's that. Harumei (talk) 18:03, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Name origin

Paladin, while the spelling fits, sounds like a very unlikely candidate for the name. I think the "ladin" part comes from the word laden (meaning heavily loaded or weighed down).--Gou (talk) 01:08, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

The middle stages of the Kalos starters appear to be pretty heavily based on the generic fantasy game power trio of fighter, mage, and thief. Paladins are usually a subset or offshoot of fighters, so it's not as unlikely as you seem to think. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 03:17, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Except that logic would make frogadier the fighter, because that's pretty clearly from brigadier, leaving Quilladin either mage or thief, in which case I might suggest "Aladdin"? I'm with Goukazaru on Paladin seeming unlikely, since what we know of Quilladin doesn't sound very "fighter"-y. Since I see the chespin line as being the thief/rogue in this scenario, especially since there is a suggestion that part of the origin on Chespin's name is *urchin*, and the happy-go-lucky street urchin doesn't seem the type to evolve into a paladin. EDIT: Just saw the species name on Quilladin, so, yeah, I can see where the "armored" thing is coming from. Harumei (talk) 17:45, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
(Edit conflict:) It's possible, but knights are more likely to wear noticeable armor (Quilladin's species name) than thieves/rogues. I don't have any theories about why Frogadier's name comes from brigadier, but if you ignore that, design-wise it's pretty clearly based on the slim, sneaky, speedy thief/rogue D&D archetype (perhaps even with a hint of ninja added, too), at least in my mind. Part of the problem is that both Quilladin and Frogadier have some traits of both fighters and thieves (which is, in turn, at least partly because the two classes themselves are inherently less well-distinguished from each other than from mages). Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 18:21, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Also, whether they are moves, characters, Pokémon or anything else, the Japanese names are always better indicators for what they are/are based on. In this case, Frogadier's Japanese name comes from a certain kind of criminal.--Den Zen 18:38, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Korean name for Quilladin

Its Korean name is 도치보구 Dochibogu.

  • Name explanation coming. -- Nick15 (talk) 17:28, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Ok, Korean name meaning:
  • 고슴도치 goseumdochi; hedgehog
  • 보구 bogu; from bogue, the shell of a chestnut
  • Easy peasy. -- Nick15 (talk) 18:25, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Friend Safari

The Friend Safari article and Serbi list is as being in the grass friend safari, shouldn't it be added here? Yamitora1 (talk) 15:33, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

There's an ongoing discussion about this on the forums and the Friend Safari talk page. I don't think there's been a final decision about it, but people generally seem to agree it should be mentioned in some way. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:18, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
