Booby Bird?

Name

Quaxly's name may be derived from a Basque spelling for "Quack", hence the use of 'x'. This would tie in with the whole Spain theme the region is apparently based on (as controversial as this may be, considering the whole nationalism conflict they have going on). - unsigned comment from CroissantBoe (talk • contribs)

The more I think about it, Quaxly is clearly Basque (the X, the hat). I don't think Don Quixote has a lot in common aside from the X (which may actually be just Old Spanish languages using the letter more), as the character is cannonically from La Mancha which is in Castilla. - unsigned comment from CroissantBoe (talk • contribs)

Is it really Basque though? I looked it up and the Basque onomatopoeia for duck sounds/duck calling are "karra karra" or "par par". the word for quack (as in the noun) in Basque according to Google Translate is even "karraro". I think Don Quixote is a slightly more likely inspiration (although we don't know anything about its evolved forms yet, so i'm happy with the page just saying that it's a generic sailor-ish duck mon until we get more info). Quaxly's name could be a combination of "Quack" and "Exactly", given the description of its personality ("earnest and tidy"). "Exactly" lends the "-ly" and the "x", while the short "a" ties them together.--Kodakami (talk) 01:57, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

A friend of mine brought up this same possibility, but I can't see the connection to Quaxly being sly - at least not enough to base it's name on. A counter example might be Bonsly, whose family line deceives you into thinking they're trees, so, sly enough to be named after it.--Kodakami (talk) 18:46, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Curiosity

The symbol in his head is one of the political parties in Spain, PP (Partido Popular/Popular Party).
The symbology is upside dowm but it clearly looks like it because if you rotate it in combination with the PP main color (blue) looks close to identical. - unsigned comment from Xyruux (talk • contribs)

Personally, I highly doubt they would make any reference to any political party in a Pokémon's design. Or the symbol in Quaxly's head is a stylized wave? because it's a Water type??
More specifically though i think it's supposed to be like a stylized emblem on sailor's hats. like how sailor hats usually have an anchor or bird or national emblem or something on its front; on Quaxly it's a wave. Anzasquiddles (talk) 04:36, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
