Imposter Oak

Impostor Oak should have a disambig, since he's also in the How I Became A Pokémon Card comics, so he'll need a page for that.

That guy doesn't have a name given, though. Ketsuban 23:19, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

Takeshi Shudo

Does anyone have any info on this Takeshi Shudō guy and the novels he wrote? This goes out to the guy who put in this info, whoever he/she is Manga-in-a-bottle 13:15, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Seaking?

When was his Seaking referred to? --Maxim 14:23, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Professor Oak's Charmeleon

I was thinking of making a Professor Oak's Charmeleon page. So before I get yelled at for making it (like what happened to me in Wynaut (anime), Kenny's Prinplup, and Kenny's Alakazam), I was wondering if people think it would be nessecary. P.S. I know that is a confusing sentence Theryguy512 13:10, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

SSBM Trophy info?

Should I add information on Professor Oak's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee? File:Ani384MS.gifShinyRayquaza 20:32, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes. We already have that information for Misty. --FabuVinny T-C-S 21:05, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Sammy Oak

Am I the only one that thinks that Professor Oak looks NOTHING like his younger self? I know it's not just the age difference. They're eyes are completely different and so is their hair. --File:Ani048MS.gifケンジFile:Ani183MS.gifガールFile:Ani123MS.gif 02:04, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Hair doesn't really mean anything (he's an old man and it's been several years; changing a hair style likes ten minutes), but yeah, their eyes are too different. But then again, that doesn't mean much either (at least in anime).--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 02:25, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

50?

Where/when does it ever say that his age is 50? --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 19:48, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

In the 4th movie he is around Ash's age when he was brought from the future 40 years from the past. Simple math means he's around 50-55.--Outrage DD 02:11, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Since we don't actually know his age back then, whose against chaning it to Approx. 50 as the listed age?--Outrage DD 02:13, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
The fact that Rowan says he (Oak) is ten years in his junior and says that he (Rowan) has lived for sixty years is a better reason. And it should stay for that reason. --PsychicRider 02:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
WHen you get that old people tend to round their ages up or down to the nearest tenth but there's no proof of that. Also Professor Oak would be one young Grandfather if he's only fifty by D/P time.--Outrage DD 00:45, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
You have to remember that in Japan, grandparents are YOUNG. Or at least, in Japanese media, but I assume that refers to the actual situation in Japan. If most couples are married by 20, and immediately have children, then you can have a 50 year old grandfather at the age of 10. "40 years ago, when I was your age" seems to be a common reoccuring theme for Anime/Manga grandparents. Also note that this age estimate was never present in the games, and considering the more youthful appearance of Oak and Agatha in the anime rather than in the games, we can probably assume that Blue's grandfather is older than 50. Remember, he's too old to go out travelling the world, training and fighting with Pokémon. Prof. Oak in the anime even uses a Dragonite in battle, so various things don't apply cross-canon. But it's not too inconceivable to have a 50 year old grandfather. In America these days, we often don't have children until much later, let alone get married around 20 (usually, marriage occurs in mid to late 20s, again, IN AMERICA). But my grandparents had my dad when my grandmother was 19 and my grandfather was 21, so if my dad had done the same, I would have had a 50 year old grandfather (approximately). Because I wasn't born until much later, I don't. But it's all about culture here. Satosuke 04:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Proven both via in-game dialog (Rowan is 10 years Oak's senior at 60) and the anime (Oak was 10 40 years ago). Oak's 50. Well. 50 in Gen II/IV, and 47 in I/III. The question is... what do we put it as, 47 or 50? TTEchidna 23:11, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

What's with the pic

Why is there an Anime picture under the game's artwork section? Atleast I think its from the anime, I've never seen that before. Where's it from?--Outrage DD 02:14, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Huh?

Why is the fact that you can actually fight Professor Oak through a glitch in Generation I not here? I think that's a very important piece of information. --Alex S. 23:17, 5 December 2008 (UTC) Whoops, I missed it. But shouldn't there be a Pokémon In Team thing for his Pokémon from Generation I? --Alex S. 23:23, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Status Unknown?

Should Charmeleon be under 'Status Unknown' as it only appeared in Pokémon 4Ever, and the Oak in that was about 40-50 years younger than the one now? Elliot 09:16, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Sammy Oak

I think he needs his own page. He was a main character in a movie! This page doesnt even say much about him. --Blake 18:51, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

If you have something to add about Sammy, go and at it there. We don't do multiple page for a single character (except maybe Ash as Ashley and Asachu, different circumstances). Ҝəυzø8 04:03, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Dialogue in Oak's Letter event

Marley: I... I don't like to talk... I choose my words carefully, but they may still hurt someone accidentally... When I think of that, I clam up...

That's why I think this certain Pokemon is so wonderful. It's a Pokemon that conveys the feelings of gratitude in a nice way...

That stone tablet... It has a strange feel to it...

Oak: Ah, (Player's name here)! It's good to see you! Without any further ado, I'd like you to examine this stone tablet. Something just like it was also discovered in the Kanto region. I want to ask for your help in solving the mystery behind this.

  • Player Character approaches the stone tablet.

Oak: I tried deciphering the engravings on this stone tablet. Apparently, it is for a Trainer to engrave his or her thoughts after growing as a person on an adventure.

A trainer fitting that description would be you.

That's why I'm asking for your help. You've met many people and Pokemon; you've experienced many things that shaped you into the person you are. I want you to sincerely tell me who affected you the most. Tell me, to whom do you most want to say your thanks?

  • Player Character enters an answer.

Oak: Hm... You most want to express your thanks to (Player's choice here)? You're absolutely certain of it?"

  • Player Character says yes.
  • Screen whites out, Seabreak Path appears, Shaymin runs along and cries twice. The whole area is now covered in flowers instead of dirt.

Oak: ?! What was that Pokemon? Is it somehow connected to the stone tablet? Hmm... Where did that Pokemon go? Its destination is intriguing.

Marley: Thank you... That must have been the Pokemon that conveys the feelings of gratitude... You made it so I could see it... So, I'll have to convey thanks in my own words, too...

To you, too... Thank you..."

Oak's Gen I party

What exactly determines his choice of a starter? Is it the same as your rival's, or is it the one you left behind? TTEchidna 18:57, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

I have confirmed this information 100% and will change it very soon. Oak's starter is the Pokémon that your rival and you left behind. E.G. You choose Charmander, your rival chooses squirtle, Oak is left with a Bulbasaur(Venasaur). and yes, I have tested this information three times with three save files, and three starter choices. --GEN1KING 04:44, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Whoops. I don't know the movesets of blastoise or venasaur :P. Any help researching would be greatly appreciated. --GEN1KING 04:52, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
ok, I've found a Blastoise moveset:

Skull Bash Bite Withdraw Hydro Pump

so now we just need Venasaur. --GEN1KING 05:08, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

There is no link to Pokemon senryu.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Senryu Is senryu deleted in the non-Japanese version? Sawamular101 13:30, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes, like ending and next episode preview. By the way, you should learn using brackets [[]] when linking.--でんのう Zえんし 13:44, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation. The mystery was able to be solved. Thank you for the instruction about [[]]. Sawamular101 13:50, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
It is deleted in all 4-Kids/PUSA(English)-based versions, but kept in the Chinese version, and possibly other non-4-Kids/PUSA-based versions. (4KidsとPUSAを変えた英語版や英語版から作った外国版で削除された、でも中国語版やほかの日本語版から作った外国版ではまだ有ると思う。) Bluesun 14:07, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. It was understood that there were various versions.Sawamular101 14:17, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Trainer class

"He is the only character in the games to have the Trainer class Prof.; however, it is impossible to battle him during normal gameplay, and this situation is only applicable to Generation I." Since there really are no trainer classes in 1st gen, I'm gonna remove this line from the top of the page, if there are no objections. :) Okoa 06:25, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I think that is a good idea. His name is "Prof. Oak", it's not that his Trainer class is "Prof" and he is "Oak". --SnorlaxMonster 06:30, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree. It depends what is meant by "trainer class"; was the general consensus "class" as in occupation? If so, I guess maybe we should keep him as "Prof. Oak" under some kind of 'unique trainers in Generation I' template, where the different gym leaders, Blue* and Professor Oak* would be included, all the others could fit into 'trainer type'. I know it seems rather strange to do that but as you suggested; Generation I doesn't use a 'trainer prefix' byte. Generation I only uses a single 8-bit byte for 'trainer type', though there is a separate roster address 0xD05D [01XX5DD0], which defines which team the trainer uses (as you know, changeable via the Ditto Trick/Old Man Trick). For trainers like Youngster 'class' makes sense but not for Prof. Oak, though he has three teams regardless. Something that needs to be changed; "Rival" and "Leader" were added to the template as "Generation I introduced" trainer classes, that needs to be removed.
* P.S. Note that internally Blue is actually three different trainers with three rosters each and that Prof. Oak is a single trainer with three rosters. That should probably have to be noted somewhere. --Chickasaurus 17:00, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree, and I'm glad you brought that up because I had another question relating to that. I had also added notes before each of Oak's teams ("If the player chose Bulbasaur" and so forth), but someone removed that almost immediately after. I was under the impression, from another discussion here, that Oak's starter was the starter not chosen by either you or the rival (basically, the one that's weak against yours). Is that not the case, or do we not know for sure? Okoa 21:41, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Ash's Missing Pokémon?

Hey I noticed that a couple of Ash's Pokémon (that he has residing at the lab) are missing from Professor Oak's page. The ones that I noticed that were missing were Donphan and Noctowl. Shouldn't they be there? AFAIK, didn't they go back there after the Lily of the Valley Tournament? Just curious. --ジェダイの騎士デジタルテレビ 17:35, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

yep, they should be there :/ Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 20:52, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Samuel Oak

His first name is only mentioned in the anime. With that said, I believe all mentioning of Samuel Oak should be removed from this page since we have this now. Also, I think Samuel Oak should redirect to Professor Oak (anime) and not here. Any opinions on the matter? --ケンジガール 22:21, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm with you on this one. I don't think they've ever referred to Oak by his first name in the games, so I don't see why not. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 23:16, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Oak's Pokémon in GenI

So, used the name "Mr.[Pk][Mn]" and did the "old man glitch". Oak appeared, but his 6 Pokémon were Drowzee, Rhydon, Pidgey, Grimer, Missingno. (-> game crash...), each on Lv. 111. Do you have to beat the elite four or something to challenge his "real" team or did this happen, because one used the German version of Pokémon Blue? --Bernd 00:50, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Amended the article. MN does yield Oak, but due to there being no character that corresponds to the index number of his teams (which are 1, 2, and 3), it is impossible to fight one of these teams. You would have fought team #225, which is just garbage data. The only way to fight these teams is via the Ditto glitch after lowering the Ditto's attack by 4, 5, or 6 stages (which correspond to teams 3, 2, and 1, respectively). --SnorlaxMonster 14:20, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
