Uh, what's up with the images? I wanna see the covers NOW!!! Sidnoea 04:15, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Request denied. We've just moved over to a new setup so there's a glitch in the thumbnails. No game boxart has yet been released, all we have is the logo. TTEchidna 04:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Couldn't we simply use the HeartGold and SoulSilver logos that are currently on the Japanese Nintendo website? It's the official visual representation of the new games currently, so my opinion is that they are best used until other official images are revealed.

  • They're not showing up due to a glitch, as TTEchidna already stated. Frugali 06:20, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Why does it say "2 players simultaneous"? The others say "1-4 players simultaneous", is it a mistake or did Nintendo just changed the whole idea behind the gameplay?Mr. Charlie 09:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm guessing that's coz nothing's confirmed, but its fairly obvious that the two-player connection will remain. While it's quite likely the likes of the Union Room will let more than two players connect at once, I'll let TTE make that call. — THE TROM — 09:23, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Unless we hear from Nintendo that this game is only possible to play with two people I really think it should at least read "1-2 players simultaneous." Multiplayer-only games exist, but it would be extremely unprecedented if this was one of them--Barakku 17:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Gen V

Shouldn't this game be a Generation V game? AlienX2008 11:06, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't see why, as long as it's fully compatible with DPP. We'll find out more later, I guess. --((Marton imos)) 11:07, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Generation V would introduce new Pokémon. As this is a remake, we're leaning towards Gen IV. — THE TROM — 11:09, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
But didn't the originals open Gen II? This could just be the front cover of the Gen V book. They can program in new Pokémon and not use them if they like. Gywall Talk 11:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
But FireRed and LeafGreen did not start Generation III.--Purimpopoie 11:13, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
You're missing the point, as Gen II introduced the Time Capsule which blocked current generation data entering the previous generation. Gywall Talk 11:22, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
No Gywall, once again, it is you who is missing the point. Just as FireRed LeafGreen were the same generation, so will be HeartGold and MoonSilver.Max King 17:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
They're Gen IV games. Dammit, everyone quit wishing for Gen V or the end of Pokémon already. TTEchidna 14:42, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Hah, Gywall got told. Isn't it obvious they are Gen 4? I really cant understand how people think they could be Gen 5? What has changed between them and Platinum? Nothing is what. Max King 17:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm going to make one point here really clear right now. While I have absolutely no authority to do this, if you are wishing for the end of Pokémon, I see no reason why you should be here, and I'm going to have to ask whoever is wishing for the end to leave. Generation V, however, you can wish for all you like, but its not likely to appear until at least 2010, possibly even 2011.--Thomas Michael William Patrick Sales 15:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Its likely to appear when the next portable Nintendo game system is out.--Clarky13 15:27, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I see even more proof that these are NOT going to be Gen V games (which you guys seem to have missed). What are the only times a new region has been introduced in the main series games? AT THE START OF A GENERATION. HG & SS are NOT introducing a new zone, they're returning to an old zone. Diachronos 17:16, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, and remember that new generations have come out when a new GameBoy or Nintendo portable console is introduced. Wish will likely happen in 2011, because of the usual two year gap. I also wanted them to be gen. V, but that would've messed up the two year gap.--AOS 04:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Don't forget that besides introducing a whole new region, each generation starts with new player characters!--I'm Pokelova(Talk) 10:38, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

They can't really be considered Generation V, since they don't introduce a new region, new Pokemon, and new player characters. Nintendo will have probably released the successor to the DS by the time Generation V starts. Besides, FireRed and LeafGreen were remakes of Red and Blue, but they were still considered Generation III because they were released on GBA and could communicate with Ruby and Sapphire. So, HeartGold and SoulSilver should still be considered Generation IV. Link 486 15:23, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Leave off Gywall. He/She is missing a few brain cells.Laxafett 17:05, 10 May 2009(UTC)

I definitely don't consider this Generation V because while Generation III released the re-releases between the first two games and the additional game which in that case is Emerald, for Generation IV it is the same concept except that the re-releases were released last, kind of like doing it backwards and personally the whole Generation V rumor is false. -Tyler53841 15:47, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Link for the french article

Since there has been no announcement for an european release yet, the french article bears a tentative title : Pokémon versions Coeur d'Or et Âme d'Argent (Noms pressentis). Godspeed ! --InvocK 11:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Cool, thanks, I've updated the interwiki link. — THE TROM — 11:28, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Another Feeble suggestion

Should we mix in the article about the Gold and Silver Remake rumor into this one. Its good to give an insight to what happened before the games release.--Clarky13 11:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Maybe just a "See also" tc²₆tc26 11:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes yes Link the rumer page to this but what of Crystal? Pokémon Crystal Mind? Random Chaos 12:58, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Seeing as there may not be a third game remake, Crystal has nothing to do with these gems--FF(editstalk) 13:02, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually, you never really know. They might include some Crystal elements in the G/S remakes, the most obvious of which (aside from gender choice which has since become standard) would probably be the Battle Tower. --Shiningpikablu252 14:29, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Or another Battle Frontier, bringing the total to 3, reminding that 2 of them are in Gen IV. And the probability is that they include all the elements from Crystal in HG/SS, like they did include all the elements from Blue in FR/LG. Yellow doesn't count as it was the fourth Gen I game and it was a special version rather than a common version, even though it had improvements over Blue and introduced prototypes of game mechanics that would make their real final introduction in G/S. That's why they didn't remake it. Pokemon lover 17:57, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Erm... There wasn't much to include from Blue. And what elements from Blue do you see in FR/LG? --Maxim 18:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
OK, maybe there aren't that much elements (if any) from Blue taken to FR/LG but the only reason I mentioned them was for the sake of comparison. Pokemon lover 18:22, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm... no elements of Blue in FRLG? The cries? The catch rates? The fact that it was translated? TTEchidna 23:40, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
If anything, they'll include from Crystal the legendary gerbils' battle music, Sneasel appearing in the Ice Cave, and Weezing in the Burnt Tower (I hope!), but not much else. Missingno. Master wants YOU! Join the Order of the Glitch! (my talk page) 11:01, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, with the exception of the cries (they're from R/G; Blue didn't change them), you're right, TTE. And as for Missingno. Master, of course they'll include much more from Crystal than that, IMO. =D Pokemon lover 14:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
I do hope they retain at least the Battle Tower, though i don't think a Battle Frontier will happen again as thats in Platinum already, which means if people want a Battle Frontier they will buy Platinum (so Nintendo can make more cash probably). They might do a Trainer Tower-esque thing like in FR/LG. I wonder if the Red Gyarados will be kept?User:494alex
The red Gyarados should return, as it was one of the major plot points. It was also mentioned in the opening TV thing in Diamond and Pearl, another indicator that it will probably return. --Galladeon 06:01, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Version-exclusives between Japanese and English versions

I'm surprised no one thought on this yet, even though it's all speculation right now. But do you think they'll do the same as in G/S? I mean, for some odd reason, Nintendo of America switched Teddiursa and Ursaring to Gold while Phanpy and Donphan were switched to Silver. In the Japanese versions, it's the opposite. Pokemon lover 20:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Most likely, they'll include the English Version-Exclusives as they did with the R/G ->R/B remakes. (FYI, They kept the version-exlusives as they were in Red and Blue, though this doesn't prove anything because of the Japanese R/G/B fiasco.) Dark Boye 00:07, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
FRLG's exclusives were messed with with regards to RG. RB had the same exclusives as RG, FRLG messed with it. The Psyduck and Slowpoke families weren't originally exclusives, while the Mankey and Meowth families were, nor were Shellder's and Staryu's families. For the most part they remain the same between I and III. I'd bet similarly on this. Plus, we used Red and Green in Gen III, so I'd bet they'll keep with the original exclusives, if both families aren't available in both games. Seeing as we've got new Pokémon to deal with, too, I'd bet Gligar and Aipom become somewhat exclusive. TTEchidna 08:08, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I bet the version exclusives are Pokémon that have similar evolution that are Version-exclusives like Sneasel and Gligar. Laxafett 17:14, 10 May 2009(UTC)
We should wait until they are released. Galladeon 00:21, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

New Starter Artwork

Hey guys, just got some new shots showing new Ken Sugimori artwork for the Jhoto Starters Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Can someone get the images and put them on the Pokémon's respective pages? Thank you, --Dialgafan1 00:57, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Dialgafan1

Cool it, man. Don't you know how much I'm paying attention to all matters HGSS? We can only work so fast. And it's "Johto", not "Jhoto". TTEchidna 01:11, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I took care of that (partially)--Mew a.k.a. Prmatt11 at 02:04, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Hehe, could we add the screenshot and maybe the artworks to a gallery section for this page? We're gonna need one by next week anyway. Aura-Knight 02:00, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
New art goes on the Pokémon's page. We don't have 151+ new artworks on FRLG's page. TTEchidna 03:43, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

I can see chikoritas on her page but i don't see it here. And I haven't seen Totodile's at all. -- Landfish7 14:06, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
The archive is still a little crazy from what I understand. Totodile's pic is visible at its page as well. With luck, these problems will be fixed today. Aura-Knight 14:21, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
It's a little early for a gallery, isn't it? On this page, we only need one picture from that little footage of Gold and Chikorita. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 14:26, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
It's because CoroCoro will likely give us more images within a few days. Aura-Knight 00:04, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

ESRB - May 09 "Rating"

As the game isn't due for release yet and ESRB quite probably hasn't rated it yet. (Tell me where it says E for these games? The offical site doesn't.) Should we remove the Rating or put the word ASSUMED next to the rating? I know it's most likely to get the E Rating, but I don't think we should jump the gun. Big Nutter 02:57, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Noted. Thanks. — THE TROM — 03:01, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't think it's really jumping the gun, since apparently they've been meting out E ratings by merit of being Pokémon (Platinum and PMD2 got pretty...heavy for E-rated games) but yes, it still shouldn't be there.—Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 03:02, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Nah, with the game corner, we'll obviously have it rated M. TTEchidna 03:44, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't think game covers really warrant ESRB ratings spikes. Here's my prediction: The translation goes a bit too far, and one of the new features teased might be expanded gambling, and as a result, HeartGold and SoulSilver get E10+.
In any event, regardless of anyone's predictions, we probably shouldn't list any rating unless it's officially listed with one. And not just the ESRB--in the event an infobox might be appended to include other countries' rating systems (Japan's CERO, Europe's PEGI, etc.), we're best waiting for official ratings from those boards too. Just because Pokémon games have followed ratings trends doesn't mean they can't be broken--PEGI usually gives Pokémon games 3+ ratings, but Battle Revolution got slapped with a 7+. --Shiningpikablu252 04:21, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Dude, I totally forgot about the Game Corner. Are they using the same rationale the Japanese government uses for pachinko or something? If you don't redeem your chips in the same building as the casino, it's not gambling? :|—Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 04:45, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
...wait seriously? Damn, so that's how they got away with it this whole time! TTEchidna 07:56, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Well TTE, following your idea, then it wouldn't be a M-rated game but rather a T-rated game. Still, I don't think they'll ever give a Pokémon game a rating higher than E or E10+ (if that's ever going to happen =D). It's not like the games have porn or violent contents. Pokemon lover 11:33, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
So... killling small monsters is not violence? --Nick., something to say? 14:51, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
They don't die, they faint. FAINT. --((Marton imos)) 14:56, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
You just beat them up into a coma. Huge difference. The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 14:58, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I think lighting them on fire with Flamethrower would count as violence Shiny Rayquaza 15:01, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
It's kidding man, they'll rate it E, or E+10 if they're bored. There's no discussion for that --Nick., something to say? 15:02, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
If they had something like a Kingdom Hearts style where you go around beating the crap out of people for money and to steal their Pokémon, THEN we're talking T or M. Otherwise, they'll all be E or E10+. Seriously. The Game Corner isn't that bad. All of the games have gambling anyways, and they've always passed it off. And it's not even close to real gambling where you lose your home if you go into debt, which you can't. R.A. Hunter Blade 17:45, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
And Nintendo isn't stupid. The won't jump from E to T-M for that reason. They'd lose a lot of money if they do it... and you know, they really don't care even if they're taking the poor children to gambling ---Nick., something to say? 18:58, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
A lot of things will get you more into gambling than Pokémon ever could, anyway. Like... your own parents. I'd bet E's where it will be, undoubtedly, and I dare the ESRB to have the balls to prove me wrong. TTEchidna 06:24, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

New gameplay video

The new gameplay video reveals the new visual effects. Also aparently your pokemon can now follow you around outside of battle like pikachu in pokemon Yellow. The video clearly shows Silver staring into Elm's lab just like he did in G/S/C. --HoennMaster 03:57, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Remember that they're remakes just like FR and LG, the story-line will not change much, it will perhaps just be an extension of something. And about the wind, I saw it too but lets just wait until further details. We can't just keep on editing useless information that will just confuse the reader. JPN release date

Someone on NeoGAF reposted what is apparently a 2ch post revealing info from this month's CoroCoro on the game. Anyone with good Japanese translation skills able to confirm? (Also, a picture of the issue's cover.) Frugali 12:22, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Is it related to the game's release date? I didn't see something about HGSS. It says the release is on September 11, reservation is July 18, SRP is 4800 yen, NEPichu to appear in HG, and more info about the movie and event PCPichu.. not sure of this though. Kevzo8 12:57, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Thread for context. Yeah, I guess we shouldn't jump the gun, Serebii said that there's several conflicting reports going around right now. Frugali 13:00, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
This month's CoroCoro magazine will be released few moments by now. I think we should wait for the infos. Kevzo8 13:07, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Eh, the first picture has Lugia and Ho-Oh on it, but I can't see anything else Pokémon related on it. As for the rest of everything, what Kev said. R.A. Hunter Blade 21:54, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

CoroCoro Scans

Just wondering if/when the info in the new CC should be added to the article, from what I've seen, there is a new girl playable, the notched eared pichu/pikachu colored pichu are involved, and there's a skateboard involved in the game somehow. I'm aware the last 2 are iffy, but something tells me that the new girl would be something to mention. Myzou 14:52, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

  • I would think that showing the picture or mentioning the new girl would be more of a priority than the Pichu since it notes a significant change between Pokemon Crystal and these games. But I am not going to add this without more discussion.-Tyler53841 15:14, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
I'd say maybe wait to see if slightly better quality scans are created before adding more details. Although they may still be speculative for the time being. Although the fact that there is a new female character does throw a bit of a spanner in the works. First off, we don't know her name or anything else about her other than her look. TheChrisD RantsEdits 15:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
PS - Gold = A really young version of the TF2 Scout?
I would think the scans he posted below would be good enough to show that it is indeed a new playable female character. Myzou 15:58, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
It possibly is true. But, we have to what for some better screenshots. Don't add them just yet. Let TTE decide.--Clarky13 16:28, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
I'll agree to that and if it can't be posted yet then we'll wait for either offical pictures or a gameplay shot that shows the characters' sprite. -Tyler53841 16:33, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree, I think we should wait for the magazine to actually hit news-stand on the 15th. It is the 15th right? Either way I don't think we should jump the gun.

P.S. $10 says the new girl trainer's name turns out to be Heart.Zabbethx 16:56, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Leaf implies otherwise. I say Soul. No one create an article until we make some consensus. TTEchidna 17:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

where in the magazine was the skateboard mentioned? UltamateCharizard 21:00, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Pokébeach have very recently posted an article with higher-resolution quality scans of CoroCoro. Apparently the Touch Screen how displays the in-game menu, although whether or not it is always there, or you have to press a button to activate it is still unknown. Also they've confirmed the presence of the location graphic that appears when you enter certain areas, á la FR/LG is back. TheChrisD RantsEdits 11:59, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

You can still press X to access the menu, I assume if you don't want to use the touch screen, (according to the screencap.)I assume they have it setup this way because they might integrate the radio more into the game, so it lets you change stations more easily. Halogen 18:52, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Can someone who can read Japanese tell me: Doe the magazine specifically say that it is a new girl? I think it may just be a major overhaul of Kris, but if it says so, then it must be an entirely new character.--Gou 22:50, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

The magazine identifies Gold and [Kris] as simply "Protagonist (Boy)" and "Protagonist (Girl)." That's all that's legible for now; let's wait until full scans arrive.—Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 00:11, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
She really only looks like Leaf in a version of Kris' clothes and a slightly different hairstyle. And Serebii says that she isn't Kris, although they have been known to get things wrong. They do have a number of Japanese reading users like we do though. R.A. Hunter Blade 00:15, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe she is a new character, maybe her name could be Soul (ソウル) or Heart (ハート) just like Leaf in FireRed & LeafGreen. AlienX2008 03:16, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, nothing is mentioned other than what we know. The description of the girl "An active looking girl. Notice the device hanging from her bag." For the boy, "His cap has a trademarked yellow line. What's that blue device attached to his left hand?" Halogen 04:03, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
What could it be, oh how I wonder... Anyone up for emailing Masuda or Sugimori and asking them personally, "okay, is this Kris and you're screwing with us, and when the hell do we get HGSS?" TTEchidna 07:51, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I highly doubt that's Kris, seeing as the two look VERY different. Either Kris will appear redesigned again in a possible Crystal remake, or we will never see her again. Starter following

I think it had been made known that your Starter Pokémon will follow you in the whole game. Did it?--Ruixiang95 09:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Remember, that video is just demonstration on what the game's gonna be like, it may be scrapped and become beta information.--ForceFire 09:19, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Starters may not be the only ones who can follow, it seems safe to assume that it is possible there are many Pokémon that can follow, I came to this conclusion from the Ilex forest image that has been released, it shows your Pikachu coloured pichu outside of its Poké ball, this could possibly indicate that other Pokémon may be able to follow the player. Basically I don't think we should assume that only the starters can follow (like it says in the article) until we have all the facts. —Mada-sama (Talk to me!)— 13:18, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Yeah after seeing that special Pichu following the trainer I agree until more facts are available to that, if not for that I would have thought only the starters would follow the trainer. -Tyler53841 15:50, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Being that PCP can, I do wonder if shiny starters would look different, too. Either way, yes, waiting on this tidbit is a good idea. TTEchidna 08:37, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Fourth pic

How do we know that it shows Kurt's house? Do the CoroCoro scans specifically state that? Pokéman 17:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

There is no mention of it anywhere in the scans or on the website (I read the Japanese.) The text next to the image in the scans simply refers to how your starter will follow you throughout the game. It should be edited. Halogen 18:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Don't. It closely resembles the positioning of Kurt's House in Azalea Town. The gym can be seen below it, and there is a red streak on the western side of the picture resembling a Pokémon Center.--Clarky13 19:04, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, but that is just speculation (and a big stretch.) It doesn't hurt to leave it as is and find out whose house exactly it is later on.Halogen 20:49, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Its not really THAT big of a stretch. The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 21:36, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Burned Tower. They just made it more elaborate. Like Silph Co. in Saffron. TTEchidna 23:12, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I still say the place looks like Azalea Town.--Clarky13 23:14, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I can't picture Azalea Towns having these kinds of streets, as they would go against its village-ish theme. And the house/tower in the pic seems to have a base of concrete under it with stairs, reminiscent of the towers' bases in the original games (Ok, the bases didn't look like they were made of concrete in GSC, but it still looks reminiscent of them). Pokéman 23:27, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Ok, maybe. This is getting a bit forumy, you have made your point and fixed it. Anything else goes to forums.--Clarky13 23:34, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
It just looks like re-newed Azalea town so there's no way that isn't kurt's house, i think.--RegiManiac 08:28, 17 May 2009 (UTC)RegiManiaC
It's not Kurt's house. It's Burned Tower, Kurt's house is not on an elevated platform (and wouldn't be, he's not THAT important). TTEchidna 08:36, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
It could be either. We should wait and see when the games are released. --Galladeon 05:56, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

The article says that the new girl replaces Kris. But seeing as HGSS are specifically Gold/Silver remakes, instead of a Crystal remake, wouldn't it make more sense to say this new girl is just new, not a replacement? Just like the FRLG heroine didn't replace anyone because no female choice existed in RGYB, the HGSS girl replaces no-one as well. But that's just me...what do you think? --Fairy Red 23:39, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

We all have different opinions on the topic; check out the various forum threads. For now, we're proceeding as if it's a different character. We've given her the fan-name Soul for now. It's hard to say which way we should go. --((Marton imos)) 00:08, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
i agree with fairy red. she dosen't replace any character, because there is none to replace.

WaterUser (page, talk) 12:37, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

In most people's eyes, Kris was "the Johto girl" like May's "the Hoenn girl", Leaf's "the Kanto girl", and Dawn's "the Sinnoh girl". Sure, Kris didn't actually appear as a choice in Gold and Silver, but most consider her to be as much Gold's female counterpart as May is to Brendan, Leaf is to Red, and Dawn is to Lucas. It's not as much "replaced" as it is "included instead of the more logical choice"... TTEchidna 20:15, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Even though these are remakes of G/S rather than Crystal, the one who had the role of Gold's female counterpart in the franchise was Kris. And now we have Soul filling that role. So yes, we can say that Soul is replacing Kris. Pokéman 02:40, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
I would say that it is a matter of how you look at it. Looking at it from the perspective of these being remakes of Gold and Silver, Soul is not replacing Kris. Looking at it from the perspective of Kris being Gold's female counterpart, Soul is replacing Kris. --Galladeon 05:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

All Pokémon NOW Available

As an honorable mention for somewhere on the page, by now, with the addition of the expected Johto Pokémon in these remakes and the expected time capsule to work like the original GS, every Pokémon may be now caught in Gen IV main series gameplay as of these GS remakes... Now, I think that it would be an honorable mention... if it could be edited a bit and figured out where it would be put on the page... that is, if you decide whether it's really an honorable mention...--X, PEACE TOTHE DRAGONS ANDTHE BEASTS 03:04, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Well I disagree with you, since I believe there will be a new Johto Dex. But also the point of the matter is that until there is a source to clarify what Nintendo is planning to do, there would be no rumors or speculation about this on the games' page.-Tyler53841 03:24, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
...what? Seriously, I can't tell what you're saying. As far as catching every Pokémon, what about Groudon and Kyogre? Or the Gen III starters? Heck, we don't even know for sure that Celebi is available. --((Marton imos)) 06:49, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
They won't touch the GSDex, like they did with the RBDex.--ForceFire 07:18, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I'd Like to believe that too, but personally I'd rather wait for a reliable source especially since Nintendo did an expansion of the Sinnoh Dex for Platinum and could easy do the same thing in reverse. Especially with the Kanto Starters, Fossil, and Legendaries near the back of the original Johto Dex. But once further details are released then it would be determined who's right or wrong. -Tyler53841 07:24, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
We should just wait 'til they release it in Japan and see what happens. galladeon 14:56, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Now it's time for the division between "speculation" and "duh". Honestly, I know we pride ourselves on the veracity and such of our information, but honestly, truly, saying that the Johto Gym Leaders don't even have a 100% chance of reappearing is just stupid. Did Kanto get new Gym Leaders in FRLG? No! HGSS is a remake of GS. Silver appears outside Elm's lab. I'll give Kanto being in the games as speculation, because as much as I hope it is, we've not yet seen the eastern border of New Bark in new graphics, leaving room for doubt. Sure, maybe it was unprogrammed as of the demo, fine, but it does leave room for doubt. But seriously, saying that Johto's leaders aren't gonna be the same is like saying Silver's no longer the rival, just some kid standing outside Elm's lab, and that a new villainous team takes the place of Neo Team Rocket.

HGSS is a remake of Gold and Silver. If you're all so gung-ho about removing "speculation" that Falkner, Bugsy, Whitney, Morty, Chuck, Jasmine, Pryce, and Clair will be in HGSS, I don't know why you've not yet even said "oh just speculation that these are remakes, we won't know for sure until we've compared every plot detail to GS and made sure they're just as similar to them as FRLG are to RG," and label these as "new games set in a mysterious new region".

It's just as much speculation that there are screenshots of Slowpoke Well and Ilex Forest, too, that the Gym Leaders will change. You know, despite them looking like revamped versions of the GS areas, we can never be sure...

Echidna has spoken. All eight Johto Gym Leaders are part of Gen IV and HGSS as much as the eight Kanto ones are part of FRLG. If you wanna assume Kanto's in HGSS, too, go for it. I mean, honestly, these anti-speculation measures are far too ridiculous at this point if you're "playing it safe" like this. Hell, if BP were around when FRLG were announced as much as it is now, we'd have you guys screaming about how "it's not proven that the Seafoam Islands and Cerulean Cave will appear in FRLG"...

And that's my rant. TTEchidna 01:07, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree. Kanto speculation is one thing, but these are friggin' GS remakes, there is no way in teh fiery pit that the Johto gym leaders aren't there. They'll be keeping all major elements of the region intact. I'll bet they're gonna include Kanto, too, I see no reason why they wouldn't. There's no proof that they're including it, true, but neither is there evidence to the contrary. Plus, what would they do about the Pokemon League? And by the way, that shot of Gold in front of some building that everyone is arguing about, I strongly believe it's the Burned Tower. Honestly, what's more likely to be raised up on a pedestal and look all badass and awesome and junk? An ancient tower with great historical significance that houses the legendary gerbils? Or the house of some old fart who makes Poké Balls? Plus, the roads are paved, which kinda says more of "Ecruteak City" than "Azalea Town" to me. Missingno. Master wants YOU! Join the Order of the Glitch! (my talk page) 01:26, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
I say yes too. I doubt they'll change anything. And if they do, oh well. --ケンジガール 01:31, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
They changed the female player. Big deal. Kris is most likely gone forever. So what? Get over it. It's a remake. It's SUPPOSED to have minor changes, although this is pretty big for a minor. Nothing spectacular changed for the Kanto remakes, all they did was add a female player, the Sevii Islands, and slightly extend the Team Rocket plot. Deal with it, or just ignore the fact that there are remakes coming out. R.A. Hunter Blade 03:19, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Please, stop saying that. We have gotten over it. It's the people who complain about the complaints who keep complaining.

Check out the revision history on Bugsy. TTEchidna 08:01, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Well R.A., you should've understood (if you haven't yet) that the reason for Kris not supposedly being in HGSS is because they're GS remakes and not Crystal's. And since Kris was introduced in Crystal, it wouldn't make sense to put her where she doesn't fit, don't you think? Pokemon lover 10:12, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
That doesn't mean that people aren't spazzing about Kris not being in there, even if they're told she wasn't even IN G/S. People need to learn to grow up and deal with what happens, even if they don't like it. R.A. Hunter Blade 12:52, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Couldn't agree more with you. Pokemon lover 15:53, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Pokemon lover: If it's okay for the R/G remakes to borrow stuff from other games (some GSC Pokémon; many Gen II and III items, including the RSE berries and the HM to learn Waterfall; some GSC music themes), then why would it be so wrong for a G/S remake to borrow stuff from Crystal (such as Kris)?
Before anyone tells me to get over it, I'm not complaining about Kris not being included. I'm just questioning the logic in saying "These are GS remakes, so including anything that comes from Crystal would seem out of place". Spideym 18:16, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Me two cents (A few days late) there's things that are speculation to assume they'll be in, but there's things that are more speculative to assume they're not in. Complicating matters slightly is that Kris was one of those things, but really, still in are: the leaders, team rocket, the starters, kanto, the basic plot. The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 10:35, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I was replying to Pokemon lover, not TTEchidna. And no, I don't think TTE was talking about what you're saying. Read his comment again. He was ranting about how the fact that people seem to believe that we shouldn't assume until confirmation that stuff like the Johto Gym Leaders is going to come back in these remakes, is ridiculous, as common sense tells us that they WILL be there. Spideym 06:08, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
No, he's right. We shouldn't assume they'll add anything new. They'd never add "crap that won't happen." Pokémon following you around? Ridiculous. That'll never happen in a main series game except for yellow. --((Marton imos)) 08:27, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Generation II Pokémon Platinum sprites

I don't know if this is being discussed elseware, but I've noticed that in the trivia sections of certain Generation II Pokémon that received updated colours in their Platinum sprites it's not being mentioned that this happened to alot of other Pokémon.

Their colours are changed so that they match their original colours from Gold and Silver as a hint to the fact that the Gold and Silver remakes were going to be released in a few months time.

For example, in Porygon2's trivia section it mentions that Porygon's sprite colours didn't change in Platinum as if no connection had been made to the G/S remakes.

Surely other people have made this connection, or is it just not being mentioned? Ash zane 08:17, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

No, Just because it's similar too their original sprites, doesn't mean it was a hint.--ForceFire 08:19, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, so your saying that the Generation II Pokémon having the sprite changes to reference their original sprites in G/S and then the G/S remakes being announced a few months after is a complete co-incidence? Ash zane 11:52, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
No, but that sort of thing could mean nothing. --Galladeon 05:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Lugia and Ho-Oh

Ho-Oh and Lugia in the 3rd Generation games were only available from the event-exclusive Navel Rock. Before the release of HeartGold and SoulSilver, the only way to them in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, was through Pal Park. However, with the release of HG and SS, now you can get them by trading with HG/SS.

Should it be added to their Trivia sections that they are the only Pokemon to initially be event-exclusive and then be available normally? Bttsstewart 02:51, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Generation II they were available normally... ←{Berrymaster|Talk|Contrib}→ 02:58, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

The Release Date Isn't Fall 2009, It's in September

According to the Japanese website, it's coming out in specifically September, not just "Fall". Igglybuff63 18:52, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Pedometer a.k.a. PokéWalk

Supposedly, there's a pedometer that will come with the game, and you can upload a Pokémon to it. Then, you can walk around, and the Pokémon will supposedly gain experience. I'm not kidding. If you think I'm crazy, then check out these links: [1] [2] Shouldn't this be mentioned here, especially when the first link has a video from Pokémon Sunday (a primary source)? Blaziken257 05:22, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

This pedometer is going to be called the PokéWalk. Additionally it was announced on Pokémon Sunday (6/7/09) and is also at Serebii( Also, I started on it in the Sandbox but was told to hold off on doing anything with it. Lastly, there is a picture on the Serebii newspost. -MasterKenobi 05:28, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm, it looks interesting, and given that you have at least one reliable source, then write something up and see what the others think. Firstly I would like to applaud you Sketch for removing the unneeded images since I had the same idea myself about not wanting the section to be too overcrowded.

Agree with you there since the boxart is mixed in with the Magazine scan and it is better to wait for pictures that have no magazine scan in them. Apparently the Japanese text on the scans confirms it. --Galladeon 02:42, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps... There's a restriction for certain exotic Pokémon, So if you want to take your Giratina for a walk, you'll probably get a message like, "It's too big!". The scans may say otherwise, but I can see this happening. Evidence for this is that Rayquasa appears in-game, and his sprite is pretty large, so I really think there'll be restrictions of sort. Team Hyper

Do not discuss this here. I only allowed your original comment because it was asking if that was correct. All 493 Pokemon can follow you. There are no restrictions. Period. 493 means 493. -Sketch 11:13, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

New gameplay images

Now, there's more gameplay images, someone should put this here but it's protected.

The Poké Balls are upside down apparently?--RexRacer 17:34, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Probably not. If I remember right, in DPPt they spin as they come onto the screen. R.A. Hunter Blade 17:44, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

FRLG reference?

I don't know if it is a reference or not but is there someone who understands Japanese enough to translate the info from this picture on the new HGSS site? I'm almost certain that it talks about Team Rocket and not so certain if it mentions anything on "3 years". Pokemon lover 15:40, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

New Japanese site

So there's a "special" page that's opened on (can be found here). Is there any way that we could perhaps translate some of it for use in the article? At the moment, it appears as though there's just the images that are being used in the article, rather than the content itself, which could contain information that would do well to be included. Opinions on this? Ggled 16:33, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

We've been getting material from that site all morning. The link is already in the article itself under official site. -Sketch 16:39, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

New Pikachu sprite

I assume by now you've all seen the new pictures, one of which featured Pikachu's new sprite. I took the liberty of cleaning it up, and even making female, shiny, and female shiny versions of it. Anyone want me to upload them? Missingno. Master says: The Celebi Glitch is real!(talk page) 17:29, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Upload them somewhere else first and show them here. --ルレ 17:33, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Alright, here ya go;

Obviously, if I'm allowed to upload them here, they're all gonna be done separately. Missingno. Master says: The Celebi Glitch is real!(talk page) 17:46, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Making your own custom sprites in an attempt to pass them off as official is kind of...meh. Sure, we can take the male sprite. But not the shiny, or female sprites. -Sketch 17:48, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Meh, fair enough. I'll upload the male Pika sprite right now, then? Missingno. Master says: The Celebi Glitch is real!(talk page) 17:50, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

What is going on here? I uploaded it as 025.png, so it should be updated on everyone's page.--Tavisource 18:13, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Hey Missingno. where are those new pictures you're talking about! I haven't seen them :D YukitoOoO 18:24, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Please make it 80x80 and transparent so it doesn't need to be fixed by someone else. Gen IV non-animated sprites are 80x80. (IIRC, Spr_4h_025_m.png (I assume that's the naming scheme) should be then replaced with an animated one, when that's possible, but 025.png should stay unanimated.) UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 19:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, about that.... I don't know how to make the sprites transparent. And since when are there ANY animated Generation IV sprites on this wiki? The only animated ones I see are Crystal and Emerald. Missingno. Master says: The Celebi Glitch is real!(talk page) 19:22, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
It's a very slow process, Bulbasaur's animated. I think we're trying to get all animated sprites animated. Not sure though. The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 19:28, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Bulbasaur's and Giratina's (1, 2) are the only ones already animated. Transparency is an easy fix as long as you use something else than MS Pain(t). BTW, damn session amnesia, I've been sending this message for like five minutes. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 19:29, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
That's gonna be something of a problem for me because I don't really have much experience working with sprites in anything other than Paint. Missingno. Master says: The Celebi Glitch is real!(talk page) 19:51, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Work with It's quite easy to get used to if all you currently use is Paint. As for animated sprites, yes I do believe that all the Gen IV sprites are being changed to be animated, but you probably can't see the animation since they're being saved as animated PNGs which some browsers don't support yet. Image limit for the Gallery

I would like to inquire about any possible limits there should be for the gallery on this page since I count about 16 pictures in the Gallery and more pictures will come in as the weeks fly by and only some of them will be notable so I feel I should ask this question now? -Tyler53841 19:46, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, since we're not putting every single one on here, and most of them would be on Bulbanews anyways, it's fine as long as we don't go overboard with them. R.A. Hunter Blade 20:04, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
There is such a thing as overdoing it. Four more images. Then no more. Afterwards, just swap out images for other ones. If that time comes. Eventually we'll phase the gallery out. Probably when the game releases. -Sketch 20:37, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
  • That was one of the options that I thought up earlier to deal with the overcrowding problem and also helped prompted me to create this topic. -Tyler53841 21:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
I have a suggestion: why don't we just link to the archives page where all the images are stored (ex. For other sprites and images, please see HeartGold and SoulSilver images on Bulbagarden Archives.) -MasterKenobi 20:54, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
(EC) I know the recent change to six images per row does make it look less cluttered but it's not nice on those of us with a 1024x768 screen, and probably even less nice for unregistered people what with all the ads! Maybe just reduce the size of the images as they appear in the gallery instead? TheChrisD RantsEdits 20:55, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

The Pokédex

Is it worth mentioning that the New Pokédex (Johto Pokédex) has its own numbering system this time? The numbers weren't displayed in Gen II. --Evice 03:08, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

We should probably also mention that the Girl PC gets a white and Pink Pokedex. It's a first for the games for it to come in any color other then Red.--Lego3400 04:39, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Starter sprites

Anyone there?

Looks like the Official Site has been updated. Anyone that speaks japanese there? 'cause some thing seem too be important, but I don't understand. Sorry, the lack of bulbapedia-time makes me act like a noob xD. hfc2X 13:43, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

There is no new information. The site was updated on Monday, the 15th. Today is the 17th. -Sketch 13:49, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

edit this page

Whoever can edit this page can you please add that Hoothoot, Larvitar, and the other pokemon at the bottom left on this page: 14:29, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I think that's a Spinda on the bottom left... R.A. Hunter Blade 14:32, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
That does look like one, hey there is also something about Jirachi on this page, and it says something about Going to a McDonalds, from June 19 to July 17. Or has someone already found that out?--Galm 14:36, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Getting Arceus

From reading this page it says if you reserve Pokemon HeartGold (pic of Ho-Oh) and if you reserve Pokemon SoulSilver (pic of Lugia), the arrow says furthmore when these 2 simultaneous reservations, you can receive Arceus on July 4th, which is when the reservation campaign starts, you can only reserve these at the object circulation store. (Which I have no clue what that is)--Galm 14:43, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
