This list needs to be reorganized as it states in the intro paragraph (in alphabetical order). Also, when listing the routes that the city/town lies in between, the routes should be listed in sequential order. I'd fix both things myself, but I don't have the time, unfortunately. --TMF T - C 20:34, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

The title doesnt include everything, only towns and cities, there isnt just towns and cities in the list. Sites and settlements is a term we use in Geography and it covers all of them, whats wrong with using that? Super-Max 18:39, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I propose moving it to the more suitable title of List of settlements by name and "people not fluent in english wont understand" is not an excuse for keeping it the same. Super-Max 18:41, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

The original name tells the main idea of the list; the current name would include also areas like The Underground and Mystery Zone, which differ from cities and towns a lot. It has been like that for a long time, why make it different? (Did you BTW even ask the permission to move it from an admin, since there is really no need to do that?) UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 18:46, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

1.Settlement means a place where people live (have settled) so that would discount The Underground and Mystery Zone, towns and cities does not include everything, the title should be representative of the article, not just a part.

2. The article is about settlements, so the title should be settlements

3. Tradition is no excuse to halt improvement.

4. Im sorry but you cant use foreign language as an excuse, the correct term is settlement, and this is an english speaking wiki, so we should use the correct and proper english terms.

5. You dont have to ask permision to move a page, all users can do it, otherwise it would be an admin only function Super-Max 18:50, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

1. People live also on Routes, so aren't they then settlements?
2. Related to 1.
3. And the reason to this talk is about if this is an improvement.
4. You said that already, I didn't reply to that, that means I agree
5. You have to, if it's an important one, as far as I know.

1. If you look at settlement hierarchy there is a set number of people per km required for an area to be designated a settlment

3. using the corect term instead of a wrong one is an improvement

4. ok then

5. cities and towns going to settlements isnt really important, there are more serious things Super-Max 18:56, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

How do you count a Pokémon world distance in kilometers? Also, by looking at that hierarchy system, almost all Pokémon world cities and towns would be only "hamlets". And, look at this:
The medieval settlement research group (a British organisation) includes as part of a settlement, associated features such as roads, enclosures, field systems, boundary banks and ditches, ponds, parks and woods, mills, manor houses, moats and churches.
This was from Wikipedia (which is the place the foreigners most probably look first). Let's then list all those on the list too, right? UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 19:03, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Why do we have to over compensate for foreigners on an english wiki? and you missed the key term "as part of a settlement" meaning that settlements have those types of things, not that those things are settlements. Super-Max 19:07, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Maybe I did miss that, however it doesn't still explain the first two sentences in my previous comments. Also, as I looked at the Wikipedia page again, it says that the term is used with UK and several other countries. Bulbapedia uses American grammar, and the games are Japanese, but neither US or Japan is listed as one of those countries (it'd absolutely be there if it was used in those countries). I'd consider "settlements" more of an older term, pre-modern if you will. It would be the same or a modern naming. --PsychicRider 19:36, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Cities and Towns do not have to have the word City/town in their name to be considered one. For example: Columbus, Ohio is a city without city in its name. Also, words like settlement, village, metropolis are just different subsets of city/town. Cities and towns are collective terms that mean all of those other terms and more. Cities and towns are generic words that conver all circumstances because all the terms mean the same thing, with slightly different characteristics. Cities and towns fits as the name and will stay as such. MaverickNate 21:45, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Cinnabar Island Japanese names

Yeah, it's called both Guren Island and Guren Town in Japan. But in which generations are either names used? Pokemon lover 13:37, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Incomplete

I don't believe this list is incomplete. It is tagged as needing spin-off cities and towns, but I think they are all here. I'll go through the list of Pokémon games.

  • Hey You, Pikachu! takes place in Viridian Forest, and between Pewter and Viridan City
  • Pokémon Channel's Mintale Town is here
  • The PokéPark takes place in PokéPark (PokéPark Wii), not a town. Its sequel is unlikely to be the same park, but it does not have a town AFAIK
  • The TCG games don't have towns
  • All of Pinball's locations are in the main series games
  • Pinball RS doesn't include cities/towns
  • Puzzle League is set in "Puzzle League Village", which I've just added
  • Puzzle Challenge appears to take place throughout Johto with regular cities and towns
  • All PMD towns are added
  • All Ranger towns are added
  • Rumble has no towns
  • All PRB towns added
  • Pretty sure Picross NP Vol.1 has no towns
  • There are no town's on Snap's Pokémon Island
  • Pikachu: DS Tech Demo takes place in a "PokéPark"
  • There don't appear to be any towns in Dash
  • PokéPark: Fishing Rally DS just takes place in a river; there are no towns
  • Trozei doesn't appear to have towns
  • Typing DS does, but wait until something actually happens with this before bothering to include it
  • Pokédex 3D certainly does not
  • Nobunaga's Ambition doesn't appear to have towns (nations instead), but better to leave that until post-release
  • Pretty sure no Pokémon mini games have towns
  • We have ridiculously little info on the Sega games, and I don't think they would have non-anime towns
  • Perdue Farms games have no towns
  • Studio, Play It! and v2, PokéROMs, Masters Arena, PC Master, Team Turbo, Pokémate, Say Tap? have no towns
  • Battrio has no towns
  • Medal World has no towns
  • I have a Cyber Poké Ball, and there are no towns. The Pokédex I'm pretty sure doesn't have them, and the D&P Ball is very unlikely to have one since it is basically just the Cyber Poké Ball with Sinnoh Pokémon
  • There's a couple of areas on the Pokéwalker you could argue for, but I don't think they should count --SnorlaxMonster 12:43, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

So, what you're saying is this article is complete then? ZMT123 18:34, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
