:Citations? Okay. First, it was you who originally had most of the episode titles in characters' bios in Japanese, before I changed them, wasn't it? (What's wrong with my translation of that one? To whoever made the redirect: What was wrong with James'? It was correct as it was. (Argy)

It's pretentious. Think about it, do you say Jameses or Jamess for James's? - 刘 (劉) 振霖 07:18, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I say James'. It's correct English. - Ferret 08:24, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It's prescriptivist, pretentious "correct" English. Only plurals receive such treatment, James is singular, and among other things, a proper noun, which is usually exempt from normal grammar rules. Think about it, is it boss's or boss'? Octopus's or octopus'? Julius's or Julius'? - 刘 (劉) 振霖 09:26, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Well, I would say James'.

I'm pretty sure that it'd be James's, as it's not a plural, but a possessive. I'll look it up later. Evkl 11:30, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

How ironic that someone who insists on typing in raw Japanese without providing a translation is calling something else "pretentious". --Ketsuban

James'. Consulted a whole bunch of sources. Works in both past and possessive.

I provide what I have, which does not always include translations, because some are quite difficult to translate (re: カスミ真剣勝負! 命賭けます!? - I still disagree with your translation). // "Past"? Anyway. I insist on citations. - 刘 (劉) 振霖 22:40, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Citations? Okay. First, it was you who originally had most of the episode titles in characters' bios in Japanese, before I changed them, wasn't it? (What's wrong with my translation of that one? And even if that one is hard to translate, how is "Yukiwarashi o Tsukamaero!" hard to translate?) Second, here is some more proof:

Youd do not add an "S" after the apostrophe if the word ends with "S", so James' is correct.

Come on people, this is the /very first/ rule in William Strunk Jr.'s "The Elements of Style". And being a Chris, I learned long ago, and repeatedly, that the Pokemon owned by Chris is Chris's Blastoise. Only in ancient proper names ending in -es or -is ends in an apostrophe. Jesus' Aerodactyl. Moses' Crawdaunt. Chris's Roselia. James's Cacnea. To speak of James' Cacnea speaks of the Cacnea owned by multiple James. Also, if you live in Europe and would rather not reference the US book I mentioned (due to differences between US English and English English), then check out "Eats, Shoots & Leaves", pages roughly 55, 56. --Chris, er, Meowth346

Jesus should so have had an Aerodactyl. Ketsuban
I feel I should execute you for putting an apostrophe in a plural, and disregard your advice about possessives, but here is the relevant page in the online edition of "The Elements of Style": [1].
