Suggestion

I agree with Ferret that they should have individual pages. Maybe have just a list of things, and then link them to the actual page about the item? And also it would be good to list them in alphabetical order. Jayh272416 09:11, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[Individual pages?]

Maybe there should be an extra level of sorting in the Item List: by Bag placement. There could be a separate section for Hold Items, Key Items, and Regular Items. Just a suggestion.CastformRED

I think this list should stay, but I don’t see the harm in each item having its own page, too, with pictures and in-depth info. The whole point of the Bulbapedia is to fully explain every aspect of Pokémon. I mean, moves get their own pages. -- WikidSmaht 17:07, 5 March 2006 (CST)

In RBYGSCFrLg, yes, it's there. In GSC, they are also on the top floor of Goldenrod Dept, and RS has them in Lilycove Dept. The guy on Two Island sells them in bulk after you get the Nationaldex in FrLG. surskitty 03:00, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

amulet coin

Item structure definition

There are description of items and there's the list index of items... However there's no documentation on where the item definitions can be found in the game (as there are for the pokemon base data, description and instance, as well as for the moves).

The descriptions of the items appear when you buy them in the Poké Mart or look at them in the bag( in Generation III, at least). There are also comprehensive lists with descriptions and locations in the Official Nintendo Player’s Guides by Nintendo Power. A few fan sites like http://www.serebii.net and http://www.pokemonelite2000.com also have pretty good lists, though they don't always get the English-language names quite right. -- WikidSmaht 04:01, 12 March 2006 (CST)

Overhaul

OK, it now includes all the items I know of, though many still need info filled in.
That makes it 62 KB, however... even without most locations and descriptions! So it may be tough for some browsers to edit( according to the warning message). In that case, we probably need to spin game-exclusive lists off into their own articles. Although, the latest version of MediaWiki has fixed this problem on Wikipedia, maybe if Bublapedia’s MediaWiki was upgraded that wouldn’t be a problem any more. Dunno if that’s feasible though.
I have carefully checked, all the items in the first section are available in multiple games( don’t forget PC and PXD). The exception is Mail. Even though most 3rd-gen Mail can only be found in Ru/Sa/E or FR/LG, I included it in the general section because the whole point of Mail is to trade it.
I also listed things like “S.S. Ticket” under each individual game, because, despite having the same name and similar properties, they are obviously different items with different uses.
Everything is sorted into categories, and advanced versions of basic items are placed under the basic version( for instance, Super Repel and Max Repel are under Repel).
Since it took several hours just to get all the items added and sorted, I won’t be filling in the other info for a while, if ever. It would be great if someone else helped. As I mentioned above, the best source for info is the Official Nintendo Player’s Guides from Nintendo Power, but there are some decent fansites also. -- WikidSmaht 04:29, 12 March 2006 (CST)

A browser problem is a browser problem. Upgrading MediaWiki wouldn't change anything - what is more likely is that Wikipedia simply made the warning message invisible. However, I do agree: the page ought to be split up, preferably one article per item. - 振霖T 05:31, 12 March 2006 (CST)

Just looking at this page again... I think this really needs to be broken up somehow, just given that this article's Table of Contents is longer than most other articles in their entirety. Individual articles may be best, or at least group articles for item groups like, say, potions or dolls. --Pie 00:21, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

This list is too unwieldy

At 69 KB, this list of items is simply too long and, in the case of a majority of the items, severely lacking detail. With the rise of specialized item indexes (see Potion, Poké Ball, Held items), I believe that this page should be turned into an index of the item "sub-pages", if you will. The subpages can then still be linked via a template at the bottom of the article, as is done for Johto towns and cities with Template:Towns of Johto.

Would this change be a rapid one? Absolutely not. But, as the look of the existing list shows, it's a change that needs to be done. --TMF T - C 19:13, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I would agree, given that I've read softcover books which were shorter than this list. I think this is something that needs a group consensus - but if everyone agrees, we should start moving items out of the list once there's another page for them. --Pie 19:35, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Since nothing has been done on this issue, here's another idea: split this page up into grouped subpages, such as (for the items in multiple games) Miscellaneous items, Recovery items, etc (and for the game-specific items) Items exclusive to Red, Blue and Yellow, Items exclusive to Gold, Silver, and Crystal, etc. If no one has any objections, I'll begin moving info to said pages and convert this page into a "Table of Contents" of all the subpages. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 16:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Reorganizing

Revisiting this monster from an organization standpoint, I'm considering the following.

  • Moving the content of items to List of items
  • Turning the article "items" into a redirect to "item"
  • Making the item article about a general explanation of what items are, details of the role of items in game, etc.
  • Linking to the list of items in the item article, as well as the articles with details about the different item groups

...being that it's a tad late replying, how about we kill the list of items, instead having a list of types of items, like Held items (which itself should be divided up into type-enhancing, evolution-inducing, incense, Pokémon-specific, mail, and whatever else it needs to be, so as to be short enough to be manageable like Potion is), key items of the different generations, and all that? After all, in the List of Pokémon, it's not like we have every list of Pokémon spread out there, we keep them in their individual articles for the Sinnoh, Hoenn, Johto, Kanto, and so on Dexes, and just list them out. Moving this to "list of items" would then give us the ability to put it in the same kind of format as the LOP.
My proposal'd look like so:
  • List of status healing items
    • Potion
    • Drink
    • Status ailment healing items
    • Revive
    • Ether
  • List of Poké Ball varieties
  • List of key items
    • Generation I
    • Generation II
    • Generation III
    • Generation IV
  • List of held items
    • List of type-enhancing held items (Charcoal, Mystic Water)
    • List of battle-affecting held items (King's Rock, four weather rocks)
    • List of evolution-inducing held items (Oval Stone, Electrizer)
    • List of incenses
    • Berries
  • List of items by index number
    • Generation I
    • Generation II
    • Generation III
    • Generation IV
  • Other
  • Vitamin
  • Repel
...or something like that. I'd make it fit to be like the LOP is, so I might put Repels and Vitamins in an "Other" category. I do think, however, that grouping Key Items by Generation would work better than having a list where there's Gen I only ones, and ones that were in Gen I and II, and ones in II and III, and ones in II alone... that'd just be crazy.
