:All this is probably because, in Generation I, Super Rod Pokémon are programmed by area while Old and Good Rod Pokémon are universal to all water.  It's also why you can't get anything with the Super Rod in the Cerulean Gym in Generation I (although unlike the Elite Four chamber, you could fish in Cerulean Gym in and even get the Super Rod to have an effect there in those games; it wasn't until Crystal that fishing in the Cerulean Gym was made to yield nothing regardless of rod).  --Shiningpikablu252 13:21, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

::I havn't played red in a while, but have you tested this. I could have sworn I tried this before, and it yields only a message saying "There doesn't appear to be anything here" or "The water appears to be empty"  --<span style="color:#F08030;">GE</span><span style="color:#CC0000">N1</span><span style="color:#660000">KI</span><span style="color:#330000">NG</span> 15:14, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

:::I've done this myself in Yellow, meaning it should work in all games before it.
:::Do remember that only the Old and Good Rods produce an effect.  If you were using a Super Rod, that's your problem; that rod doesn't have an effect in either Lorelei's chamber or the Cerulean Gym in Generation I (I know, I've tried it myself).  --Shiningpikablu252 16:44, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
