Umm

Why is the move called "Devastate" but the Japanese name is "Complete Burn"? There's no English name for this move. So why are there two names? --ケンジガール 06:57, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

This attack, with the exact same Japanese name, appeared on the Shining Gyarados card from Neo Revelation. The translated name we have for that is "Complete Burn", and the English TCG gave us the attack as "Devastate". While this is not a guarantee that TPCi will retain that name when Black & White gets its North American release in March, it is an official English name that was given to the attack nine years ago. - Kogoro | Talk to me - 07:41, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like a load of speculation to me, just saying. WaterUser (page, talk) 20:43, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

How is this speculation? It's from an official source, the closest thing we have. All of our translations are basically speculation then, since translations vary all the time. Jellotalk 20:47, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I guess, I just don't think that is a very good reason. It should use the translation "Complete Burn" until the English name is officially released, imho. WaterUser (page, talk) 16:43, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Does anyone remember PlusPower? That also had the same Japanese name as an item from the games. TorchicBlaziken (talkedits) 23:27, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Not really the same. PlusPower came after the X Attack already appeared in the games. The card appeared before this move appeared in the games. MaverickNate 23:33, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
