Name Origin

About it's french name : I'd just like to point out that it isn't from "mono" and "pale" (which just means pale btw, not blade), but "mono" and "vorpale" (like the Vorpal sword). Monorpale (talk) 00:07, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

I had a few ideas about the name origin as well. The "or" in "monorpale" means gold, so the name could be roughly translated to single gold blade perhaps. In its japanese name as well, "ki" could allude to "kin" which also means gold. -- Danjam 00:21, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

No, I just said the french word "pale" means the same as the english word "pale" (as the opposite of dark), and not "blade" as is written on the article. Such a choice of word wouldn't make sense considering the more obvious possibility of the second word being "(V)orpale". If the "or" stood for "gold", then "mon or pale" would litterally mean "my pale gold", and would make no sense either. The name in English may have been chosen as a play on "one edge", seeing that the Japanese and the French names have the word "one" (mono/hitotsu) in it.Fructis (talk) 15:04, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

The issue lies in the official pronunciation, which we haven't been given. It's obvious that it's a play on of "hone edge", but it may be pronounced like "on-edge" which implies that the first syllable of its name could make another language joke out of the entire name as a corruption of the word "homage"(this is assuming that we are supposed to pronounce its name like we're saying the phrase "on edge")Yveltal-is-roosting (talk) 08:42, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

What if it's name has to do with the word 'haunt." Honedge looks like a corruption of Hauntedge (except with out the T sound)

Origin

Instead of just saying "It seems to be based on a scabbard and sword which contains an ancient soul", why not say that it is based on a tsukumo-gami (artefact spirit)? No official pronunciation has been given. Additionally, Bulbapedia doesn't list pronunciations because different official media (anime, PBR, licensed guidebooks, etc) have given contradictory pronunciations for many Pokemon. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 21:12, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Reveal

I was wondering, maybe the fact that it was revealed at Japan Expo, making it the first time a Pokémon has first been announced in a language other than Japanese and English, as well as in a country other than Japan (I don't know if any pokémon has been announced at an American event, though) should be specified in the trivia section ? --Unbirth (talk) 15:06, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Korean name for Honedge

Its Korean name is 단칼빙 Dankalbing.

• 단(單) dan, "single"
• 칼 kal, "knife", "sword"

단칼에 dankal'e also means "with one stroke of the sword"

• 빙자 bingja, "dependence", "reliance"
