== Base Power or Damage Output? ==
Anyone know if the move increases the actual base power or just the final damage output. For example, if one helping hands an ariel ace used by a technician pokemon, does it still receive the boost from technician or does the 50% boost increase the Base power to 90, thus negating the boost?  [[User:BobBot321|BobBot321]] ([[User talk:BobBot321|talk]]) 20:05, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
:I'm not really sure, maybe you could test!? If I understand [https://veekun.com/dex/abilities/technician veekun] correctly, they say Helping Hand's power boost applies before Technician is checked (as does {{m|Defense Curl}}'s boost for {{m|Rollout}}/{{m|Ice Ball}}). {{de|Techniker|The German PokéWiki}} agrees, and explicitly say that this was different prior to Generation V; veekun seems to say the same. Based on [http://www.smogon.com/bw/articles/bw_complete_damage_formula this Smogon guide], however, I believe in Generation V, Helping Hand's boost is in fact not considered for Technician (but Defense Curl is). Helping Hand user fainting

Does the effect of Helping Hand still work if the Pokémon that used it is KO'd before it's team mate attacks? --Phred 21:47, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I always wondered that myself. TTEchidna 22:16, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Does anyone know the answer to this? I came to this talk page to ask the exact same question. --SnorlaxMonster 14:49, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
Just tested in Emerald and the effect appears to stick even if HH's user faints before their ally can attack. Took me long enough to figure that out, since the CPU wasn't cooperating well with what I wanted, so if I double-check RuSa or FRLG, or test later generations, it'll be later. Failure

In the Pokemon Emerald game I have, Helping Hand fails if the teammate Pokemon has used it first. Should this be documented? --Alex S. 00:09, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Damage raised by Helping Hand?

While it is known to us what Helping Hand is used for, does anyone know exactly how much it raises the affected partner Pokémon's attack by? -- HechEff 10:05, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

How long or how many turns does the effect of Helping Hand last? --*Ɣℯ№ӎօṫհ* 19:59, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Additional effect?

i just used Helping Hand in a double battle while the target pokemon was asleep and it woke up before receiving the damage boost. i did no t use a priority move before you ask. is this intended or what?--The Truth aka Relicant 18:22, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Sounds like a coincidence, unless you think you can replicate it. Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 20:27, 3/19/2014 (UTC)

Targeting

In Gen III, it apparently targets the user ("self"). I guess it makes no difference whatsoever (it still boost the ally's moves), so I chose to just let it slide for convenience/clarity. If anyone wants to have it changed, they should not only say it here, but also remove it for Substitute in Gen III (the main reason why I let it slide), and list of modified moves. Nescientist (talk) 12:37, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Since Pressure affects allies in Gen III and IV, this might actually have some relevance. I would need to confirm that though. --SnorlaxMonster 14:38, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Base Power or Damage Output?

Anyone know if the move increases the actual base power or just the final damage output. For example, if one helping hands an ariel ace used by a technician pokemon, does it still receive the boost from technician or does the 50% boost increase the Base power to 90, thus negating the boost? BobBot321 (talk) 20:05, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

I'm not really sure, maybe you could test!? If I understand veekun correctly, they say Helping Hand's power boost applies before Technician is checked (as does Defense Curl's boost for Rollout/Ice Ball). The German PokéWiki agrees, and explicitly say that this was different prior to Generation V; veekun seems to say the same. Based on this Smogon guide, however, I believe in Generation V, Helping Hand's boost is in fact not considered for Technician (but Defense Curl is). Nescientist (talk) 15:40, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
