Contradiction

In-Game Description: "The user tackles the foe with a high-speed spin. The slower the user, the greater the damage." Article Description: "Gyro Ball is a Steel-type move introduced in Generation IV that power depends on foe's speed."

...kay. Which is it? I'm not 100% sure myself, so just thought I'd double-check before I go changing anything. :) -PsychoYoshi 19:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

I think it depends on the difference between the speed of the defender and the attacker. The slower the attacker is compared to the foe, the more powerful the move is. --TTEchidna 23:33, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Conversely, the slower the foe is, they'd just as well be a type resistant to Steel attacks. There's a formula to calculate the damage in relation to both speeds, and it would a good idea to post it in the article, but I don't know it. All I know is it maxes out when your speed is 1/6 of the foe's (or was it 1/16?). -Juunannio 1:41, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I added the formula. --Shiny NoctowlTalk|Trivia quiz 14:58, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Does it really depend on the Speed stats in the way the article describes? Because a Shuckle (Spd 5) using it against a Deoxys Speed (Spd 180) would seem to do 900 base damage, which is clearly more than the article claims is the maximum (150) (and does not count EVs/IVs/natures/modifiers/etc.). And how is that figure of 150 obtained in the first place? By assuming identical opponents that vary only in their stat modifiers (6 increases versus 6 reducers)? ~ Serial Colour 18:58, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, it does depend on the speed stats. However, 1) it is dependent on the stat as used in the battle (and so is affected by stat-altering moves and paralysis), not the base stat, and 2) it will cap at 150, so if the power using that formula is over 150, it will only be 150 power. Doesn't Baron Alberto's Lickilicky also use Gyro Ball? I'm pretty sure that it used it against Darkrai (then again, maybe it was when Alberto was trapped inside Lickilicky's body...). Diachronos 16:05, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

It certainly does. Both Alberto's Lickilicky and Alberto himself use the move (the latter while he's a pokémon, obviously). ~ Serial Colour 18:58, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Trick Room

Does Gyro Ball still work well for the slower Pokemon in Trick Room, now that it is actually the faster Pokemon? Dexington 21:06, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Trick Room does not alter the speed stat, it merely reverses the order of the Pokemons' turns. So it would do the same damage as it would whether or not Trick Room was activated.

Reverse?

What's the power of GB if the user happens to be faster than its opponent? Is there a base power it'll hit for (like, 1HP's worth), or won't hit at all? Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 16:34, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

It'll hit for a fraction of 25, according to the formula.--Jayhugidge 11:59, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Stat Stages and Damage

Say the user has their speed lowered in battle a few times before this move is used. Will that make it cause more damage? FrozenStrategy 22:04, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes. It uses the current speeds of the two Pokémon. Paralysis can also increase/reduce the damage. Werdnae (talk) 02:31, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Elecball

I think that Elecball should be mentioned in this article, or maybe a templete should be created. Some thing like Moves based on Speed, or Variations of Elecball (if we're naming alphabetically) or Variations of Gyro Ball (if we're naming chronologically). It's possible that Heavy Bomber would fit into this category. ^_^ Delspencerdeltorro 22:16, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
