Beam

Are the Tentacool using Hyper Beam, or BubbleBeam (daft, I know, but it learns it via TM in Gen I)? If none of these, what else could it be? XVuvuzela2010X 01:29, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

I think they're using Mega Drain. It's not too different from Absorb, which was displayed as beams of red light. And Tentacool could learn Mega Drain back then (can't learn Hyper Beam, which didn't turn red until Unova in any case, and Bubblebeam has never looked even close to that). - unsigned comment from Missingno. I wouldnt call it Mega Drain, since this attack was used to level a city, something Mega Drain would presumably be pysically incapable of doing. And it and Absorb were not seen properly in the anime until a few Gens after this. It does look almost the same as the Hidden Power used by Unown in DP060, but obviously that wasnt around back then. Its SolarBeam. Tentacool's Pokedex entries confirm this:

Tentacool absorbs sunlight and refracts it using water inside its body to convert it into beam energy. This Pokémon shoots beams from its crystal-like eyes.

Mega Drain would be physically unable to level a city, true. But then, since when have the laws of physics been little more than vague guidelines in the Pokémon world? We're talking about a universe where using Bite can cause an explosion and humans can survive multiple instances of electrocution. As for SolarBeam, I'd be inclined to agree with that, except for two things. One, that does not look like any SolarBeam I've ever seen. And two, Tentacool is and always has been unable to learn SolarBeam in the first place.
