Trivia

  • The only time that Swinub's eyes have been seen open was during the fight between Pryce and Erika in Round 163 of Pokémon Special when Pryce ordered his to dodge Erika's Skiploom's attack.
  • Swinub has the same sprite in both Gold and Silver, making it one of few Pokémon to do so.
  • Swinub's shiny form has changed frequently, being blue in Gen II, grey in Gen III, and green in Gen IV.
  • Swinub's Platinum sprite looks like Ken Sugimori's official artwork for GSC.

Origin

Swinub's size/appearance seem to be based off a mix of a Peruvian guinea pig, and a wild boar piglet.

Name origin

Swinub's name is a combination of swine and nub, referring to its lump-like nose. Its Japanese name may be a combination of 瓜坊 uribō, a wild boar piglet, and ぶう ぶう bū bū, an onomatopoeia for oinking.

In other languages

  • German: Quiekel - from quieken (sounds that pigs make) and Ferkel (piglet).
  • French: Marcacrin - From marcassin and crin.
  • Korean: 꾸꾸리 Kkukkuri
