Trivia
- Going only by base stat total, Sunkern is the weakest Pokémon, with a total of 180 points. Despite this, it is stronger than some Pokémon in some aspects (such as Speed, at 30, beating several slow Pokémon such as Munchlax) and has a greater movepool than others.
- Sunkern shares the same species name as Bulbasaur and its evolutions. They are all known as the Seed Pokémon.
- In The Official Pokémon Handbook 3, published by Scholastic Corporation, Sunkern's data says its height is 0'01" when it is actually 1'00".
Origin
As its name indicates, it is based on a sunflower seed.
Name origin
Sunkern's name is a combination of sunflower and kernel. Its Japanese name may be a combination of 向日葵 himawari, sunflower, and the English word, nuts.
In other languages
- German: Sonnkern - From Sonne (sun) and kernal.
- French: Tournegrin - From tournesol (sunflower) and a corruption of graine (seed).
- Korean: 해너츠 Haeneocheu
