Suicune (Japanese: スイクン Suikun) is a Template:Type2 legendary Pokémon.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

It is, along with Raikou and Entei, one of the legendary beasts created by Ho-Oh after the burning of the Brass Tower.

Suicune is pursued, both in the anime and Pokémon Crystal, by Eusine.

Suicune is the version mascot of Pokémon Crystal, appearing on the boxart.

Suicune was a major character in the movie Celebi: Voice of the Forest.

Biology

Physiology

Suicune is a blue leopard-like creature with white rhombus-shaped spots and a white underside. Suicune has two white streamer-like tails and a purple cape that resembles a northern aurora or a flowing river. It has a hexagon-shaped crest on its forehead and has cat-like paws.

Gender differences

Suicune is a genderless species.

Special abilities

Suicune has the power to purify dirty water and can walk across water. Northern winds always seems to blow where ever it shows up. Because Suicune is the embodiment of the north winds, it is able to learn and use almost every attack with relation to the wind (such as Gust, Icy Wind, Blizzard, and even Tailwind, making it the only non-Flying type to do so). Suicune, like the other Legendary Beasts, is also extremely fast, but, interestingly, it does not learn ExtremeSpeed naturally. It also sports limited mental powers.

Behavior

Habitat

Since Suicune is a member of the Legendary Beast Trio, Suicune races around the land. Some say it searches for a pure reservoir. Many speculate that Suicune and the rest of the Legendary Beasts are indeed not unique species because in Celebi: Voice of the Forest, Professor Oak speaks as if the Suicune in question was a specific Pokémon of that species.

In the anime

Its first appearance is in the episode Don't Touch That 'dile when Ash, Misty, and Brock spot Suicune in the middle of a lake near New Bark Town. When it spots the group, it runs off.

The first significant and lengthy appearance of Suicune is in Celebi: Voice of the Forest. In the course of the movie, it demonstrated its ability to purify water, as well as doing battle with Dark Celebi.

Another significant appearance is in the episode For Ho-Oh the Bells Toll, where it appeared in Ecruteak City after one of the Crystal Bells from the Tin Tower was destroyed.

Suicune also appears in Sinnoh in Drifloon on the Wind!.

It was a friend to two young Joys named Marnie and Paige. Suicune saved Ash and Paige.

Suicune was awakened by Yellow along with its two counterparts, and the three raced around Kanto and Johto looking for Trainers to help them defeat the Mask of Ice to free Ho-Oh. Suicune, in particular, personally challenges nearly every single Gym Leader in the two regions. During its travels, it encounters both Eusine and Crystal, both of which become obsessed with capturing it. Crystal acquires the Crystal Bell, but is still unable to capture Suicune. She has her confidence shattered by this and has to retreat back to her old training grounds to regain her confidence. Suicune later chooses Misty as its partner, but then pairs up with Crystal anyway after Misty becomes injured.

Suicune can communicate with Raikou and Entei telepathically.

Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl

When released from a Poké Ball, Suicune unleashes a blast of Icy Wind that causes high levels of damage. Suicune returns in Brawl but with a different attack, Aurora Beam.

Trivia

• Suicune's sprite in Gold and Silver had a trasparent head piece, but was permanently changed to blue in Crystal.
  • It is also possible that the head piece was depicted as purple in Gold & Silver as seen in the back sprite.
• Suicune's Crystal sprite depicts a blue lower jaw, even though it is white in all other sprites.
• Despite being a pure Template:Type2, Suicune displays many Template:Type2 features, as well as being the only non-Template:Type2 Pokémon to learn Blizzard via level-up.
• In the anime, Suicune's body color and headpiece are more of a bluish-green color, while its in-game sprites and Ken Sugimori's official artwork show Suicune's body being more of a sky blue color.
• Suicune is the only Generation II legendary Pokémon to appear in a Diamond & Pearl series episode so far.
• Suicune is the only member of the legendary beast trio that does not require the Mystery Part or Secret Slab to appear to the player in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 as items cannot be taken into the Final Maze.
• In Crystal Version, Suicune does not know Roar like it does in Gold and Silver, due to it being a stationary boss. This change carried over to FireRed and LeafGreen, making Suicune the only one of the roaming trio that cannot Roar its opponent away. Thus, it is the easiest to catch. This change carried over to Generation IV as well, possibly because of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver using the same storyline as Crystal.
• Suicune, along with Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza, are the only legendary Pokémon who are the version mascot of a main game, but lack a signature move.
• Suicune, along with Raikou and Entei, had its back sprite changed during the transition from Diamond and Pearl to Platinum.
• Suicune is one of few Pokemon whose sprites are the same in both Gold and Silver.

Origin

Suicune resembles a maned wolf or a leopard. Its ability to purify water is also reminiscent of a unicorn. Suicune may also resemble Fujin, the Shinto god of wind, who wears leopard skin.

Name origin

Suicune's name is probably based off its Japanese name, Suikun. Suikun is likely a combination of 水 sui, water, and 君 kun, monarch.
