Trivia

Origin

Stoutland was based on a combination of a Shih Tzu and a Maltese with some characteristics from Yorkshire Terriers and Scottish Terriers. Its talent for rescuing humans in the mountains is similar to a St. Bernard's. Although technically a dragon, it may have also been based on Falcor.

Name origin

Stoutland may be derived from the words "stout" (meaning bulky) and "land" (a reference to terriers, who have their name derived from the Latin terra meaning earth). It may also come from Newfoundlands, a large breed of dog used for rescue work.

Its Japanese name may come from the Japanese word of "muku" meaning shaggy hair and shaggy dog, and "rando" (land).

Language Name Name Origin
German Bissbark From Biss and to bark. May also be an allusion to Otto von Bismarck (because of the beard).
French Mastouffe
Korean 바랜드 Baraendeu
