In the anime

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Gold / Pokémon LeafGreen
It lies still in the same pose for days in its web, waiting for its unsuspecting prey to wander close.
Pokémon Silver / Pokémon FireRed
It spins a web using fine--but durable--thread. It then waits patiently for prey to be trapped.
Pokémon Crystal
If prey becomes ensnared in its nest of spun string, it waits motionlessly until it becomes dark.
Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
The web spun by Spinarak can be considered its second nervous system. It is said that this Pokémon can determine what kind of prey is touching its web just by the tiny vibrations it feels through the web's strands.
Pokémon Emerald
The web it spins can be considered its second nervous system. It is said that a Spinarak determines its prey by the tiny vibrations it feels through the web.

Trivia

Origin

In particular, Spinarak shares coloring and appearance with the Happy Face Spider, an arachnid from Hawaii that seems to have a face on its abdomen.

Japanese believe that a Spider can ensnare careless travelers.

Name origin

Spinarak's name is a combination of spinneret, which is where a spider excretes silk, and arachnid. Itomaru could be a combination of 糸 ito, thread, and 丸 maru, common historical name suffix for boys. The French corruption seems to mean half-tarantula. The German name comes from web and arachnid.
