Sun & Moon
In the Sun & Moon, Ash traveled with Delia to the Alola region after Mimey won the trip via lottery. It was shown that Ash gave his Kalos Pokémon to Professor Oak, who gave him and his mother a Pokémon Egg to deliver to his cousin Samson. While riding a Sharpedo, Ash met Lana, who was fishing on her Lapras with her Lana. Later on, while losing track of a Grubbin he encountered earlier, Ash stumbled upon the Pokémon School, where he meets Lillie, Mallow, Sophocles, Samson, and Professor Kukui. While being given a tour by Mallow, he noticed Team Skull members confronting Kiawe and battled them alongside him. During this battle, Ash learned of Z-Rings and Z-Moves when Kiawe used Inferno Overdrive from his Kiawe. Later on, while at dinner with his mother, a Pokémon catches Ash's attention and he goes after it. Eventually, that Pokémon is revealed to be Tapu Koko, the guardian of Melemele Island, who gives Ash a Z-Ring and an Electrium Z, before flying off. With these discoveries, Ash decided to remain in Alola, where he stayed with Professor Kukui, to study at the school and learn more about Z-Moves. Ash later broke the Z-Crystal, prompting him to take on the Island challenges and the Island Kahuna for new ones. He has thus far gained a Normalium Z, a Grassium Z and another Electrium Z (which Tapu Koko switched a Fightinum Z for). Ash, his friends and Professor Kukui later visited Akala Island for a field trip, together with Akala's Island Kahuna, Olivia.
