Skiploom (Japanese: ポポッコ Popocco) is a dual-type Grass/Flying Pokémon.

It evolves from Hoppip starting at level 18 and evolves into Jumpluff starting at level 27.

Biology

Physiology

Skiploom is a plant Pokémon and has a round, green body with stubby arms, feet, and tail. It has large, flat ears on the sides of its head, and a yellow bloom on the top of its head. Skiploom has ovoid red eyes with no pupils.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Much like Hoppip, Skiploom needs a gust of wind to get itself airborne. It flies using its flower as a propeller. The bloom on top of its head open and closes as the temperature fluctuates up and down and its flower blossoms when the temperature rises above 64°F (18°C). Because of this it is sometimes used as a thermometer.

Behavior

Skiploom spreads its petals to absorb as much sunlight as possible. It also floats in the air to try to get closer to the sun. When it rains, this Pokémon closes its flower and immediately hides under the shade of a tree to avoid getting wet.

Trivia

  • Skiploom's normal color and Shiny color is reverse to its pre-evolution, Hoppip.

Origin

Skiploom appears to be based on a bulb and a flower, specifically that of a dandelion.

Name origin

Skiploom's name is a combination of skip and bloom, referring to the flower on top of Skiploom's head. The name may also come from loom, where fruit grows. The names of all stages of its evolutionary line are likely based on the phrase, "Just a hop, skip, and a jump away". Its Japanese name is based on 蒲公英 tanpopo, dandelion and 根っ子 nekko, root.
