Route 218 is a short bridge-like route in Sinnoh that links Jubilife City and the nearby Canalave City. The Old Rod may be obtained from a fisherman in the lookout station connecting the route to Jubilife City. In the other lookout station, connecting to Canalave City, Professor Rowan's assistant will update the player's Pokédex. Although this route is accessable early in the game it is not traversable because progress is blocked by water. To reach the west side and continue on to Canalave City, the move Surf is required.
Route description
From Jubilife City, the route begins on land for a short path before coming to a small bridge going over the water to an island. North from this island is a small pier that leads nearly to the northernmost section of the route. This portion of the route is all that can be explored before obtaining Surf. After Surf has been obtained and can be used outside of battle, the water can be crossed. Going west from the small island leads directly to the other landmass on the route; a small strip of land divided from the rest of the landmass by trees. From here, going north will lead travelers past a barrier in the water, where they can surf again around the trees and to the other side.
The northern path on this route is purely water, and leads directly to the other side. On the other side, the route's only long grass can be found, as well as a honey tree and some Trainers. From here, another lookout station leads into Canalave City.

Trivia
- A policeman in the lookout station to Canalave City says "Boy... I sure am thirsty... ". This is a reference to the thirsty guards in the lookout stations on Route 5, 6, 7, and 8, who prevented access to Saffron City in Generation I and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
- The route itself, however short it may be, is similar to Route 12 and the Silence Bridge in Kanto that joins Lavender Town and Routes 11 and 13, in the fact that they both contain prime fishing spots, have wooden bridge-like areas, and have fishermen who will give the player a fishing rod.
- After being defeated, Guitarist Tony states, "Do you hear that? It is my guitar weeping..." This may be a reference to the popular song by The Beatles, While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
