Trivia
- Servine was first seen on an animator's reference sheet for Pokémon the Series: Black & White, along with Dewott, Woobat, and Axew.
- Servine's English name, as well as Dewott's, was officially confirmed through the anime in The Battle Club and Tepig's Choice!.
Origin
Servine seems to be based on different species of serpents and legless lizards. Its Grass typing may be a reference to vine snakes, or even tree snakes and grass snakes. The Pokémon's combination of snake- and lizard-like features is similar to genera of skinks with serpentine aspect such as, but not limited to, Brachymeles and Ablepharus. The shape of its head, body, and crest may be based on the bird of paradise or false bird of paradise flowers.
Ken Sugimori has said that Snivy, Servine, and Serperior are based on French royalty, specifically mentioning the anime The Rose of Versailles as inspiration.[1]
Servine's physical features resemble the acanthus leaf motifs popularized during the Renaissance.
Name origin
Servine may be a combination of serpent and vine.
Janovy may be a combination of 蛇 ja (snake) and canopy or ivy.
