Trivia

  • In each region, there is a two-stage Template:Type2 Pokémon encountered early in the region. Sentret is the Johto variation on this theme that also includes Rattata (Kanto), Zigzagoon (Hoenn), and Bidoof (Sinnoh).
    • Out of these Pokémon, Sentret has the lowest base stat total.
    • It also appears on the fewest routes in its native region out of these Pokémon.
  • Generation II is the only Generation where Sentret's starting move is Tackle. Both following generations give Sentret Scratch as its starting move instead.
  • Sentret is colored a much lighter tan in all Generation III games and in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum than it is in Generation II (even to a point where it is a lighter color than its Generation II shiny sprite, with its Shiny sprite becoming even lighter in Generation III). It returns to a darker brown coloration in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Origin

Despite its name, its behavior and markings are more similar to meerkats than ferrets. It also shares traits with flying squirrels, sugar gliders, and raccoons.

Name origin

Sentret's name is a combination of ferret and sentry. Its Japanese name is a combination of 尾 o (tail) and 立ち tachi stand or 鼬 itachi weasel.

In other languages

  • German: Wiesor - Most likely from Wiese (meadow) and visor, or from Wiesel (weasel).
  • French: Fouinette - From fouine (beech marten).
  • Korean: 꼬리선 Kkoriseon
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 尾立 Wĕi Lì - Literally "Tail stand", referencing on its ability to stand on its tail.
