Samuel (Japanese: ソウタロウ Sōtarō), also known as Sam, is the assistant of Pyramid King Brandon. He also referees Brandon's matches.
Samuel first appeared in Battling the Enemy Within were he refereed the match of Brandon and Ash, who was then possessed by the King of Pokélantis. At one point the king used him as a human shield by forcing Sceptile to hide behind him as Brandon's Regirock was preparing to fire a Hyper Beam at it, but Brandon was able to stop Regirock in time.
Samuel also appeared in Overjoyed!, Pinch Healing, Gathering the Gang of Four, and Pace - The Final Frontier!.
He also appeared in A Pyramiding Rage! where he was sent off with Maria to the Snowpoint Temple. In Pillars of Friendship!, he was ordered by Brandon to repair one of the Battle Pyramid's broken motors.
