In the original Super Smash Bros. Saffron City appears as a playable stage. The battle takes place on the roof of Silph Co. and a few smaller surrounding buildings, along with two small moving platforms. Some Pokémon occasionally emerge from the elevator on the right side of the building during battle. This is the home stage of Pikachu and Jigglypuff in the game.

The background includes the Saffron City skyline, a banner which reads "Gotta Catch 'em All!", a mountain range (possibly including Mt. Moon, Cerulean Cave, and Mt. Silver), Route 5, and a building which could be the Fighting Dojo.

Pokémon appearances

Certain Pokémon will emerge from the elevator on the Silph Co. building and attack briefly, similar to Pokémon summoned from Poké Balls. Occasionally, Pidgey, Fearow, Butterfree, and other Template:Type2 Pokémon will appear in the background.

The following Pokémon appear on the Silph Co. builing. Some of them can be knocked out, while others are invincible.

  • Venusaur is impervious; it cannot be KO'd by any means. It deals 14% if touched and will attack with Razor Leaf, each leaf dealing 3% damage and stunning a character if they hit.
  • Charmander can be KO'd by stronger attacks, including Pikachu's Thunder. Charmander does not damage upon contact, but will Template:M2 at anyone in its range, dealing 3% per hit.
  • Electrode is invincible and cannot be hurt by any attacks. After a short time it Template:M2 and deals 30% damage, as well as KOing those with higher damage.
  • Chansey is the easiest Pokémon to KO. Unlike other Pokémon, Chansey heals 5% damage on contact. Chansey creates Template:M2, which can be used as either throwing or healing items.
  • Porygon is impervious and cannot be KO'd by any means. It deals 25% when it appears and 15% on contact thereafter.
