The reference to My Hero Academia

• The episode's Japanese title is a reference to the series Full Metal Panic.
• This episode marks Kenyu Horiuchi's first appearance as Professor Oak, this being the character's first appearance since the passing of Unshō Ishizuka.
• The logo on one of the bottle caps in James's collection (specifically, one which he picks up after finding out that his collection has been eaten) looks very similar to the OLM, Inc. logo, the company that animates the Pokémon anime.
• When James makes an angry face at the Meltan, his face resembles that of Katsuki Bakugo from My Hero Academia.
• James, Meowth, Jessie, and Wobbuffet narrate the preview for the next episode.
