It’s the season for our heroes’ favorite pastime: Pokémon Base! Professor Kukui has arranged a special lesson for them, complete with a guest coach: Oluolu, the star player of the Magikarp team that just won the Pro League season.

After the students’ game, Team Rocket shows up to demand a Pokémon Base battle—with the winning team getting the star’s autograph. Oluolu teams up with the students, and it’s a close match until he unleashes his secret weapon: his Snorlax partner’s Z-Move, Pulverizing Pancake!

In appreciation for a good game, Oluolu offers Jessie his autograph anyway—but Bewear charges through and carries Team Rocket off before she can accept!

At Professor Kukui's house, Ash, Rotom, Rockruff and Professor Kukui are watching Pokémon Base on TV as Rowlet sleeps. They watch as an Electabuzz on the pitcher's round throws a ball at Gyarados who hits the ball with its tail which sends the ball flying with leaves Ash ecstatic as the ball is slammed into the wall as the crowd and Magikarp cheerleaders cheer. Ash feels the excitement as Pokémon Base player Oluolu takes his place to bat knowing for his team to win, he must get a home run to get Gyarados and himself to win the game. Electabuzz throws the ball and Oluolu swings his bat, hitting the ball and sending it past the Alolan Exeggutor and the ball leaves the park, giving Oluolu a home run and winning the game for his team the Magikarp. Ash finds this so cool and announces that he wants to play Pokémon Base which gives Professor Kukui an idea as on TV, Oluolu makes it home. At School, Professor Kukui greets the class and asks them if they watched the Pokémon Base which they did leading an excited Ash to reenact Oluolu's winning run as Kiawe notes that it was Oluolu's performance that clinched the game as Mallow says he was the best and checks with Sophocles that he is from Alola which Sophocles confirms, saying that the came from Melemele Island and confirms that he is a big fan as Lana is keen to know more about Oluolu. Lillie says it will be fun to play as Professor Kukui surprises them by saying that Pokémon Base will be what today's class will all be about. Neither Lillie nor Mallow know the rules as Lana asks if Professor Kukui will be teaching them but Professor Kukui says it won't be him but he asked a Pokémon Base coach to come and do just that as Oluolu arrives with his Snorlax, much to the amazement of Ash and his classmates as Samson Oak squeezes past Snorlax in the doorway informing them that Oluolu graduated from the school whilst making a pun as Oluolu introduces himself whilst also making a pun. Samson Oak says that Pokémon Base keeps Oluolu busy but he made time to come and visit as Oluolu explains that Professor Kukui says that his students have a keen interest in Pokémon Base which Ash confirms as Professor Kukui says that today they'll be taking a special look at Pokémon Base which leaves Ash excited.

Outside, Rotom provides a commentary with the team lead by Kiawe on the field first with Kiawe acting as the pitcher with Turtonator, Mallow is at third base with Steenee at first base, Lillie at right field with Snowy at left field. Rotom explains that unlike a pro league game, this game will be using a triangular playing field with each team consisting of three trainers and their Pokémon with Professor Kukui, Oluolu and Samson Oak acting as commentators with Oluolu saying that he modified the game to remove second base as Rotom introduces Ash's team consisting off Ash, Pikachu, Sophocles, Togedemaru, Lana and Popplio. Ash steps up to the plate telling Rockruff, Rowlet and Litten to just watch as he notices a Scyther acting as the umpire. Kiawe starts the game by pitching his ball, calling it a Inferno Overdrive Ball which Ash swings at, calling it a Gigavolt Havoc Swing but misses the ball, much to the surprise of his team. Sophocles reminds Ash that he needs to keep his eye on the ball as Ash gets ready for another go only to miss the second ball that Kiawe throws as which Scyther calls a strike which Rotom calls a lousy call but Professor Kukui says is still a strike*, leading everyone to collapse at. Three Pom-Pom Style Oricorio are acting as cheerleaders as the teams switch with Pikachu on the pitcher's mound as Kiawe steps up to the plate. Holding the ball in its tail, Pikachu jumps up into the air and swings his body before releasing the ball straight at Kiawe which he hits. As the ball starts to fall to the ground, Kiawe fears that this will be a pop-up as Sophocles runs around, trying to get into a position to catch it when it lands. Ash tries to direct Sophocles which causes Sophocles to trip but the ball lands in his hand meaning Kiawe is out. Mallow is batting next and hits the battle which Lana doesn't catch before it hits the ground but she throws it at Popplio who creates a balloon which catches the ball, meaning that Mallow is out as Rotom compliments Popplio on its play.

The next to bat is Steenee who swings its body round and round allowing Steenee to hit the ball with its leaves and the ball is fired straight towards Togedemaru who jumps into the air and catches the ball on its barbs. On the sidelines, Litten is playing with the ball as the teams switch with Ash's team now batting. Pikachu is on the plate as Kiawe pitches the ball, Pikachu hits it with its tail as Lillie starts moving backwards, determined to catch the ball and becomes excited but becomes scared as the ball approaches, causing the ball to jump out of her hand, only to be caught by Snowy. Kiawe fires an Inferno Overdrive Ball at Popplio who hits the ball with its fin, causing Popplio pain as Mallow goes to catch the ball but misses, giving Ash the chance to head for home only for Kiawe to have Turtonator block him, leading Ash to touch Turtonator's spikes and causing them to explode. During the last inning, Ash's team is on the attack but if they get one more out, it will be game over with Popplio on first with Lana batting. Kiawe prepares to pitch the ball, saying this will be the one that ends the game as Lana composes herself, acting like she is fishing as Kiawe throws the ball, Lana surprises everyone when she hits the ball hard, sending it out of the park and giving them a home run. Outside the school, a disguised Team Rocket are walking past with Jessie holding a picture of Oluolu, calling him a dreamboat as James is surprised that she has an interest in Pokémon Base which Jessie doesn't care about as her heart belongs to Oluolu as Meowth reminds her that she is here to catch Pokémon, only to be hit by the ball which leaves Meowth angry, causing them to run into the school but Jessie spots Oluolu. Unaware of Team Rocket's presence, Oluolu declares Ash's team as the winner as Kiawe can't believe they got beaten, Ash thanks him for the fight as Jessie makes their presence known as Meowth throws the ball back to Ash who thanks them for returning, having not recognized them which causes them to recite their motto.

Kiawe asks what Team Rocket are doing here as Meowth points out they haven't captured Pikachu yet, Jessie says that she has a dream to get Oluolu's autograph which causes Kiawe to call her a liar which Jessie says she isn't as Mallow says she is after their Pokémon as Jessie says not today but Sophocles says she can't fool them although he wants Oluolu's autograph as well. Oluolu gets involved and suggests they settle the dispute by having a game of Pokémon Base with his autograph going to the winning team only he'll be playing along with Snorlax on the school's team to which Jessie agrees which leaves both teams all fired up. Team Rocket talk tactics with Jessie saying the word lose isn't in their dictionary with the only entry being victory as James notes that they have a professional on their team with Oluolu but Jessie notes that they also have a slow amateur with Snorlax so they'll target Snorlax which they agree and start the game with Pikachu pitching and Jessie batting. Jessie starts to swing her body before Pikachu has even thrown the ball as Jessie calls to her to slow it down as Pikachu throws the ball with its tail where despite Jessie spinning fast manages to hit the ball, much to the shock of her team. The ball is going towards Snorlax as Ash yells as it to catch only for the ball to bounce off Snorlax's body and land on the ground. Jessie is still dizzy from her spinning but recovers as Kiawe grabs the ball, only to be flattened by Snorlax when it rolls over. Jessie is gloating at her performance only for James and Meowth to remind her that she has to run, much to her annoyance only to run the wrong way and goes the correct way as Kiawe emerges from under Snorlax and throws the ball at Rockruff who is on first base who catches it in its teeth, just before Jessie reaches the base causing Jessie to be out. It is James' turn to bat and he hits the ball which goes towards Snorlax which Kiawe is reluctant to go and get but Oluolu goes and catches the ball as Rotom compliments Oluolu on covering Snorlax as Oluolu tries to get Snorlax up and moving. Soon it is Pikachu's turn to bat with Mimikyu pitching and Meowth who is the umpire notes that Mimikyu is really charged up which could work in their favor as Mimikyu uses Shadow Claw to increase the power of its throw which Pikachu dodges causing the ball to hit part of the school. Meowth is surprised to see that Mimikyu purposefully throw a lousy looping foul ball as Ash checks on Pikachu who is fine because accusing Team Rocket of cheating, Jessie decides for a change of pitcher.

Kiawe, now batting misses a ball thrown by Meowth causing Kiawe to be struck out as Rotom notices that the school team is struggling under Meowth's pitches as Team Rocket are now close to victory. Ash is surprised at Meowth's performance as Meowth chuckles as he explains to the audience that he has a contraption in his claws which with all the training he did is now coming in handy as Oluolu steps up to take his turn and hits the ball which Jessie misses before throwing to James who catches as Oluolu runs past his base as Meowth makes up an excuse of letting the professional have his moment and vows to strike out the next batter as Snorlax steps up to the plate. Rotom asks Samson Oak for his thoughts who replies that it is about time they see Snorlax's skills before making a pun as Sophocles notes that Snorlax isn't exactly motivated as the others cheer him on. As Meowth throws the ball, James explains to the audience that the Meowy ball that Meowth is using is his unbeatable curve ball that always strikes out the batter but the ball strikes Snorlax's bat and goes towards Mareanie as Meowth tells Mareanie to grab it which Mareanie does as James calls out to Mareanie to throw the ball towards him but Mareanie runs over to James and hugs him affectionately, causing the ball to be dropped as Oluolu makes it home as Meowth notices that Snorlax has yet to run and goes after the ball knowing if he can get Snorlax over, it is victory for them as Ash and his team shout to Snorlax to run as Oluolu pulls out his secret weapon, a Z-Ring and powers up and has Snorlax use Pulverizing Pancake which sends Snorlax running past Meowth and James before heading for home was Meowth throws the ball towards Wobbuffet who is the umpire who catches the ball, only to be flattened by Snorlax as Professor Kukui declares Snorlax safe, much to the disappointment of Team Rocket as Ash and his team cheer over their victory as Oluolu congratulates Snorlax on its performance.

Professor Kukui wraps up the game announcing the school has won as Jessie cries over not getting Oluolu's autograph only for Oluolu to come over and give her the autograph as a thank you for a wonderful game but as Jessie goes to take the autograph, she along with the others are scooped up by Bewear who arrives to carry them off to its den, preventing Jessie from getting Oluolu's autograph. After watching Team Rocket go, Oluolu thanks everyone for bringing back memories from when he began playing Pokémon Base as he and Samson both make a pun.
