Principal Oak assigns Ash’s class a special project: taking care of a Pokémon Egg. They soon realize someone will need to take the Egg home after school—and Mallow suggests Lillie! Lillie is stunned for a moment but soon steps up, hoping to get over her fear of touching Pokémon.

Ash helps Lillie take the Egg to her house, which is an enormous mansion with its own battlefield. She’s distracted when Ash challenges her butler to a battle, and when she returns to the Egg, it’s being threatened by a hungry Salandit. Without a second thought, Lillie throws her arms around the Egg to protect it—a great first step!

At the Pokémon School, Pikachu, Togedemaru, Bounsweet and Popplio are all playing as their trainers look on with Togedemaru being more active and ends up rolling into Pikachu and starts rubbing its spikes into Pikachu's back. Togedemaru jumps back into the air and bounces, hitting Ash and Kiawe. Sophocles says that once Togedemaru starts, it can't be stopped. Togedemaru briefly stops before rolling towards the others who run away but Lillie is petrified and doesn't move until Mallow moves her out of the way. Pikachu tries to calm Togedemaru only for Togedemaru to bounce into him and Ash sending Togedemaru and Pikachu flying into some books which fall on them. Lillie thanks Mallow for her help as Sophocles apologizes for Togedemaru's behavior. Ash is about to say Lillie can't handle Pokémon but Lillie stops him saying she can if she puts her mind to it as Lana points out she hasn't touched a single Pokémon since she started school. Kiawe suggests trying not to rush things which Ash agrees as Professor Kukui arrives and says they have to see Samson Oak for his special class.

In Samson Oak's office, he shows the class two Pokémon Eggs. Samson Oak explains that one of them is the Egg that Ash brought with him from Kanto whilst the other was found on Mount Lanakila. Sophocles asks if he has analyzed them to work out what is in the Eggs but Samson Oak thinks it is more fun to wait until the hatch and suggests the class that they look after one of the Eggs whilst he looks after the other. Professor Kukui says they'll learn a lot from it as it is good experience. They will observe the Egg everyday and write a report on it. Samson Oak gives them the chance to chose which Egg to raise which is hard so Mallow asks Lillie which one she thinks and picks the white Egg because the spots look like flowers which brings the lesson to an end. Later Ash feels the Egg and says it is warm and they all touch except Lillie. Mallow offers the chance to touch it saying that Eggs aren't able to move but as Lillie goes to touch it, the Egg moves. Sophocles asks Rotom to scan it but it isn't equipped with that function. They discuss what to do at night as they can't leave it in the classroom so they need to take it home with them. Mallow suggests they let Lillie do it to help her to touch Pokémon. Despite her fears, Lillie agrees to give it a go as a Salandit watches the activity.

School ends as they all say their goodbyes as Mallow has to go and help out at the restaurant. Ash promises to make sure the Egg and Lillie get home safe. Ash asks how they get there but Lillie says it is a long walk so someone is picking her up as a limousine pulls up which surprise Ash as they get in. They drive along the coast and pull into the estate which surprises Ash. They arrive at the house where they are met by her butler Hobbes. After introducing themselves, Hobbes asks that Pikachu remains outside but Lillie says they came home with her so Pikachu can go in. They all head inside as Salandit sticks its head out from under the limousine. Inside, Hobbes apologizes for his mistake earlier as they don't normally allow Pokémon inside as they tend to scare Lillie as Lillie explains they built a playground in the garden for Pokémon so she could watch from a safe distance. As they go past the playground, Hobbes says they should see a few soon. Lillie shows Ash to her room where Lillie thinks it is a good idea to place the Egg on the sofa but decides to make it softer. Lillie checks the book on Eggs and places three cushions on the sofa to make it comfortable. The shakes as if to say yes as Lillie says she'll need to do a bit more studying on how to look after the Egg. Ash notes she really likes Pokémon before noticing a picture on a nearby desk showing a girl holding a Lillipup and recognizes the girl as being a younger Lillie making Ash realize she used to love touching them but is now afraid. Hobbes explains she used to adore playing and spending time with Pokémon. Lillie can't remember what happened to change her mind but Hobbes says he isn't sure of the facts but at one point, Lillie resided with her mother but when she returned to the estate, that had changed. Hobbes explains the people in the picture with Lillie are her mother and brother. Her mother is busy elsewhere with her work whilst her brother doesn't live at the estate either as one of her maids come in with tea and a few snacks and they start to eat. Whilst eating, Ash suggests to Lillie they start practicing to allow her to touch Pokémon again.

They start with Pikachu who the trolley and Ash promises Lillie won't move a muscle as she goes to pet him but as her hand gets nearer, Pikachu moves affectionately which scares her and makes her unable to touch Pikachu. Ash has another go and brings out a sleeping Rowlet. Lillie agrees that this is a good thing and goes to touch Rowlet only for Rowlet to jump up from a dream to scare Lillie before going back to sleep. Ash decides to try Rotom explaining that it isn't an ordinary Rotom as it is a regular Pokédex but as Lillie goes to touch Rotom, Rotom says it is not regular which scares Lillie. Ash says they won't give up as a Butterfree flies past the balcony. Lillie explains that often, wild Pokémon will fly past the balcony and goes to get some food but Butterfree and tells Ash they have different food for every Pokémon as they different likes and dislikes and places a bowl of food on the balcony for Butterfree to eat. Ash has a look out in the garden and sees lots of Pokémon are out there playing. At the front door, a Maid opens the door to find Mallow and Bounsweet who has come to check on Lillie and is invited in. As the Pokémon play, Ash notices a battlefield as Hobbes says it is kept right so it can be used at anytime and Ash is keen to have a battle but lacking an opponent, Lillie suggests Hobbes as he is one of the best battlers among the staff.

Lillie watches from the balcony as Ash and Hobbes get ready for their battle. Pikachu goes to battle but Ash is keen to have a battle with Rowlet as Hobbes sends out his Oricorio. Rotom provides Ash with data on Oricorio and the battle begins with Rowlet using Leafage but Oricorio counters with Revelation Dance and gathers energy in its pom-poms before hitting Rowlet. Rowlet gets up still able to battle and uses Tackle but Oricorio uses Mirror Move to also attack with Tackle as the attacks collide. Ash has Rowlet use Tackle but Rowlet again uses Mirror Move and as the attacks meet, Ash orders Rowlet to mirror the mirror move to send Oricorio flying which surprises Hobbes. Hobbes strikes back by having Oricorio use Revelation Dance. Ash has Rowlet attack with Peck before it can store enough electricity but Oricorio dodges and fires its attack which Rowlet manages to dodge. Hobbes says it has been ages since he had an enjoyable battle as Lillie heads inside to check on the Egg. The battle continues with Oricorio using Teeter Dance which confuses Ash, Pikachu, Rotom and Rowlet. Ash tells Rowlet not to look at it but it is too late and Oricorio uses Double Slap to send Rowlet flying causing Rowlet to hit Mallow as it lands. Mallow explains she was worried about Lillie so finished her chores early but Lillie's scream gets their attention. Inside her room, the Salandit is approaching the Egg trying to take it as Lillie backs away scared. Salandit jumps in the air to attack but Lillie guards the Egg bravely as the others arrive. Seeing the Salandit, Rotom provides Ash with information. Salandit goes to attack but Ash orders Pikachu to use Quick Attack as Oricorio uses Teeter Dance to confuse it before Rowlet sends it flying with Tackle. Salandit retreats as the others check on Lillie and notice she is actually touching the Egg. She realizes her attempts to protect the Egg helped conquer her fear but is still scared about touching Pikachu.
